halo is better because of

-gameplay: largest online console game.

-sales: one of the biggest selling games of all time with tons of records broken.

-cultural impact: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0464037/

whats gow brag about? being exclusive to the least sold console?

@Welfare epics I was never impressed with Halo. I thought the first one was overhyped and mediocre. THe second one was a massive improvement and added xbox live support, but the third? .....Yeah. Halo 3 sucks. Then again, I've been Unreal and Quake for ages so Halo was just meh

Halo 3 was basically Halo 1 with a few changes: start by fighting in the forest, go inside the building, getting swarmed by the Flood, and end with a high speed escape on the Warthog.

God of War simply kicks ass and is just more fun to play than Halo. It is truly concept art come to life. That is something that can't be said for any other game.

I know this is all opinionated, but if you're going to say that the Halo franchise can't be considered the best trilogy because it doesn't change much throughout it's three iterations, then you cannot possibly say God of War III is better. I could compare what each iteration of either franchise brought to gamers, and Halo simply did more (which is beyond argument), but that doesn't necessarily mean it is better quality.

I am obviously much more of a fan of Halo than God of War, but I generally try to stay away from "best game/franchise/trilogy ever" claims because of reasons like this: people are too immature to deal with others having a differing opinion.

I guess what I really mean is, chill with all the fanboy shit.

I also know this is a comment section of a story about a PS3 exclusive game, but the amount of strictly stupid and wrong things said in this section should make any learned gamer cringe.

Opinions are fine, but I am against the wrongful spread of disinformation.

@Hxczuner (PSN i.d): Bear in mind these are Euro/UK prices - everything is more expensive here pretty much. GOW3 retails at £49.99, so add on the £24.99 of the collection and you get £74.98. Personally, I think that's way overpriced, but then I am a predominently PC gamer, so am used to paying £20-30 for games. I doubt it'll sell for that much anyway. While the RRP on GOW3 is £49.99, it sells for more like £35 so...

I've been playing GOW III the past few days and theres something wrong with it. I think they tried to shoe-horn too many 'events' into the game. Your always doing something with unique controls or puzzle elements. The name never gives you a chance to get in rhythm or get better at anything. This game sorta feels like to me Warioware meets God of War.

Before you go downvoting me I'm still having a fun time laying the game I just think theres much less game here this iteration and much more show. If I had to pick I would say this one is the weakest of the trilogy. I also think that this is too much of a sequel. The don't dwell on any history with the gods your fighting they just expect that you remember all the events of the previous 2 games which I hadn't played or thought about in years.

So while the mechanics of the game are still enjoyable (though largely the same), the attempt to be bigger and better than the previous games focuses mostly on set pieces and less on the story and nuances of gameplay. It's rather a heavy handed sequel.

Well, you could have watched the intro sequence to get up to speed on the story. And I thought the story was very good, I don't understand the complaints leveled against it and please, please don't complain about gameplay. I understand everyone has their own opinion, but those aren't really valid complaints IMO

lol nah, it'll most-likely be a 2-disc set. God of War 1+2 on one disc and God of War 3 on it's own...

Boxing God of War 3 as a trilogy with the previous two games seems like a great idea since after buying and beating GoW3 I believe that as a standalone title it is severely lacking in terms of its replay value. Don't get me wrong, I agree that the story within God of War is amazing, after having finished the 3rd game this past weekend I find the replay value of the third game to be sorely lacking when compared to its previous two counterparts. I may be alone in this opinion, but unlike most of you (or at least I would assume) I didn't preorder the game. I've finished GoW3 on Normal and have finished the Challenge of Olympus. I have also found all of the Godly Posessions. However, after doing all this there doesn't really seem to be as much incentive to dive back into the game. And here are my reasons for saying so:

(1) After finishing the game once you unlock Chaos mode (the very hard difficulty). However, unlike the previous two games in the series there isn't anything that will unlock once you beat the game on Chaos mode. After 100%-ing the last two games I feel no real drive to finish the game on its hardest mode since there just isn't any real reason for it (they didn't even put in a trophy for it for god sakes!).

(2) As I mentioned above I didn't preorder the game from anywhere. As a result I only have access to once costume as a result of completing the game. In the past two they gave you 3 costumes once you beat the game the first time, with additional ones being unlockable after beating the challenges or completing the game again on a higher difficulty. Plus the stats on the costume (in my humble opinion) are crap. I won't spoil it for anyone that hasn't played/beaten the game yet suffice it to say its rather lackluster.

(3) Finally, I think that disabling trophy support when you use said costume or any of the Godly Posessions you find in the game on later playthroughs to be pretty stupid honestly. In GoW2 in the PS3 collection they encourage Urn use (going so far as to have a trophy for using 2 Urns at the same time in a playthrough).

As I said before, I maybe alone in this set of opinions and I know that some of you will vote me down out of simple spite. But let me be very clear, I like the story of GoW3 and think that it is a fitting end to the story of Kratos. Moreover, the epic scale of the game is unlike anything that I have played before. In short, the game is a lot of fun. But its not the gameplay that I'm taking issue with its the replay value of the game. Especially considering how anticipated GoW3 was in retrospect it seems that it would have been more prudent to rent it, beat it, get all of the trophies, and return it rather than buy it outright. I would love to hear some other opinions on the matter from some of you other guys on the subject.

Since you're requesting people's opinions, here's mine :
I preordered the game (ultimate collection edition) but I haven't played it yet (barely started it). So I'm not 100% qualified to comment, but I personally loved GoW 1 & 2. And I don't really care about 'replay value'.
I usually pick up a game to have "a few hours of enjoyment", much like going to watch a movie.. how much replay value is there in watching a movie (or buying a movie's DVD), yet nobody complains. For me, it's the same thing. I don't really like multiplayer games, I'm pro-single player, as long as it has a good story. I'm sure I'll play GoW3 and enjoy it, then put it on the side, and I'll be happy about it.

Well it's better for it to be a single player game that you can play through a couple times rather than GOW with shoe horned multiplayer. I agree with KaKaRoTo, I play the game, and then I'll probably put it on the side and just remember it as an amazing experience. As well, the other costumes and challenges will probably become DLC. But whatever, I completely disagree, and that's your opinion.

Well I wasn't looking at it from a multiplayer vs. single player experience. Rather I was just looking at it from the simple question "What else can I do in this game beyond what I have already done?" And my main lament is that after playing it for only a short time I've already exhausted most of the stuff it has to offer. Though perhaps you are correct about playing it for the sake of playing it, and you are indeed correct that the experience was amazing.

Maybe I'm just sad that there isn't more to the third installment since it marks the end of the trilogy.

Well I'm glad you agree and they probably should have included more costumes and content but I'm guessing they spent most of their time polishing the game. Really, I could play it through so many times and I don't know what else you expected besides an epic finish. I loved the story and don't understand the complaints as it finally humanizes Kratos since GOW, although he was great in all the games, if they just continued the whole "bad ass" thing, he would be more of a brute than a man. The ending was great as well. What'd you think?

Well I do think the humanizing aspect of the ending with Kratos was really well scripted. Moreover, his attachment to Pandora was really cool too. However, I think that Kratos's bad ass nature is entirely justified when you consider that he is looking for only one fight against either Ares in GoW1 or Zeus in GoW 2 and 3. The rest of the boss battles or major enemies are all the result of them either (1) Not getting out of Kratos's way when he tells them to or (2) Them refusing to give Kratos what he wants. Honestly, if they just stood aside and gave him the things he wanted throughout the course of the adventure the body count would have been alot lower, but only 2 characters would be dead. Moreover, without spoiling too much I really felt for Hephaestus's plight and was kinda saddened at the way things ended up regarding his character.

If they release some DLC in the future for the game then I would completely take back any of my statements. Though Stig Asmussen has already stated that the GoW team doesn't really like DLC with their games as they believe that each title should be complete.

*SPOILERS*

At first I felt for Hephaestus, but when he went and pulled that shit on Kratos, which wasn't uncalled for but annoying, then he just ended up with all the bodies in the pile. Oh and I know that the bad ass nature is justified, I love it but you have to keep the character likable in other aspects too. Originally the ending wouldn't have been about hope or anything, Cory Barlog wanted to make the theme death, a much more depressing thing, but Stig changed it to hope, thank God, and though some people aren't happy with it, think of it like Sweeney Todd (if you've watched it) by the end there's no one left to kill and no reason left for the main character to live, they've exacted their revenge and lost all their love ones whom they can't bring back. Sorry for the long post but I must continue. So yeah, at first the ending didn't sit well with me, but when I played the game through and got some time to think about it, any other ending would have sucked and/or been a copout

You fanboys are a trip.

From Wikipedia:
PS3 worldwide sales: Units sold 33.5 million (as of December 31, 2009)
Xbox 360 Worldwide sales: Worldwide: 39 million (as of January 6, 2010)

5.5 million isn't anything to simply disregard, but the PS3 isn't as far behind as you want to make it seem.

You quoted wikipedia for one, dude. Furthermore, it seems the 360 isn't selling many consoles because people have been putting it at 39 million since last year. And after beating out the PS3 for the first couple of months (might lose out this month though) this year, I'd think the gap widened if anything.

It really matters little, but I generally dislike stat manipulation. I still have to get my PS3, but the funds aren't there yet.

Sales don't matter anymore.. there used to be a time where it mattered because "noone has a ps3" meant "noone will release games for the PS3". When I bought my PS3, there were about 2 or 3 games that were worth it, but now, there are so many awesome games being released, it's hard to keep up, and 360 exclusives are getting rare (from third parties). So stats, and who sold more consoles are just useless in my opinion.
However, I'd like to point out, that 39 million (or whatever the real number is) of 360 sold probably includes people who bought their second or third xbox. The PS3 also fails of course, but I think the Xbox has a higher failure rate. If we are to check/know how many people actually own a Xbox360 vs. a PS3, I think the gap would be even smaller.. not that it matters anyways.
Just my 2 cents.

Whoa, slow down there with the stat manipulation accusations. First of all, let me state that I have a PS3, 360 and Wii, and enjoy all of them equally.

The Wikipedia articles state their sources:
PS3 source: http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps3_sale_e.html
360 sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360#Sales (Check this area, there are way too many sources to list.)

Second, we also have to remember that the 360 had a year long headstart (another mistake by Sony this generation).

Third, if the stats are wrong and the 360 sales are depressed, you have to assume the PS3 stats are too. That is, unless you simply want to believe the negative hype that the PS3 is THAT far behind. Which would make you a fanboy, by the way.

The media is simply jumping on the bandwagon that wants to paint the PS3 as some massive failure, when it's not. The point I'm trying to make is while the PS3 is indeed behind, it's not the critical failure everyone wants it to be.

No one reasonable wants it to be a failure, but it's still behind. That's fact, but this is such a trivial number that the ONLY people it should matter to are Sony.

How is 360 one year head start a mistake by Sony? Everyone keeps saying that. Its Microsoft that is messing up this generation. They rushed releasing the 360 which lead to millions of hardware failures. The hardware isnt up to par with what the 360 could be and what it could do 5-10 years.

It can be argued that if the 360 didn't release a year early, the "next gen" wouldn't have caught on as fast as it did to go on and be successful (caused the hugest growth in game sales in gaming history) because gamers would have had to choose between three expensive consoles at one time, which would have stunted sales and industry growth.

Plus, Nintendo and Sony got free feedback from the 360 so they could release their consoles as smoothly as possible.
