In celebration of today's launch of the free "Revelation" expansion for Champions Online -- or, really, just because it can -- Atari is opening the game up for free play (installer link) beginning at 10 a.m. EST on Friday, March 26 through 10 a.m. EST on Monday, March 29. This isn't the first time the publisher's done so for the Cryptic Studios title.
This time, however, you can also play sans real-world pants.*

Had a good time with it for about a month. Gets a bit old after that.

I say it's very necessary. I'm pretty much sans-pants when I come through the door so...

But in order to add something constructive...Maybe...
I ahve always been curious about this MMO, I have been playing WoW since beta, Aion since Beta-quit, Guildwars since Beta-quit, EVE for about a year, I even tried the Star Trek MMO, but for some reason I have always been scared to try this one, maybe for fear of addiction!
I'm confident the fine readers of Joystiq will tell me if I should jump in for the weekend and give it a try....

If you've got the free time go for it. There's a wide breadth of powers to keep you entertained for some time and the gameplay is pretty fast paced. My only gripe is that teaming and the social aspect were neutered the last time I played although I've heard they've been improving that.

This is cool, all I really wanted this game for was to make a hero, so I'll do that now and be done with it.

Question: Is there more incentive to play this weekend for "free" or get the demo on Steam anytime, which allows play up to level 15 progression?

I think the trial is limited to one 'area' of the game whereas in the free weekend you can go wherever you want.
