I guess since we are all wishing now, I will wish for Pilotwings, Blast Corps, and Wave Race. :( I would give a month's salary to be able to play new versions of those games.

@KVN

3DS= 3D sucks.

i hate 3D, it hurts my eyes. If i have to play games like this when i get older, i'm just going to read books instead.

I doubt it hurts your eyes worse than mine, sony boy...

I have to wear glasses to watch any 3D movie.
If I don't, one eye sees 3D, the other doesn't. So it f***s with my eyes worse off than usual.
So I LITERALLY have to wear glasses under my 3D glasses. I look pathetic...
And it STILL hurts my eyes!

Still, I go through the pain for the sake of entertainment.
If I can do that WITHOUT 3D glasses (with 3DS), I'd find it quite peachy!

@ Captian:

In the meantime, I'm amazed at how well F-Zero GX holds up the test of time. 480p and widescreen @ 60 FPS and hands down the best F-Zero to date.

Hmm you're right, the DS has been out for a kazillion years and there hasn't been an F-zero for it yet. I think it's about time.

I'm sure it's been said before, but good on em.

It's a solid console, and was bound to be popular (the PSP was nice but wasn't really major competition for western audiences)
As long as they keep making interesting or time wasting games, I'll keep playing one!

Good for Nintendo. They've brought a lot of ingenuity to the handheld market. Now, for the Wii...I'm hopeful SMG 2 will be their redemption for the two years of, basically, a drought.

"...and all of them are now obsolete."

A bit sensationalist, sure, but I'm quite annoyed with all the god-damned SKU's. I don't have a DS, and at this point I don't even know if I want to buy one because I know, I KNOW, that within a year it will be old and out-dated.

And if I did buy one, it'd be a Lite.

You should get one if only for the giant library of great games on the DS. Also I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to make the 3DS backwards compatible.

I doubt that the 3DS will have an Advance slot.

That's why I'd rather get a Lite.

Yeah, I have a Lite and do not feel that is in any way "obsolete." Plays every DS game fine, is about as flawless a piece of hardware as you'll find, and has the GBA port to boot.

Wardo,

In the official press release they already said that it would be backwards compatible with DS and DSi games. So no problem on that front.

Well every Nintendo System have at least 4 iterations.
So one would expect the same for the DS and the future 3DS:

Here is the different sku for Nintendo portable system

Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Light, Gameboy Color
GBA, GBA SP, GBA SP, GBA SP Backlight & GBA Micro
NDS, NDS Lite, NDSi & NDSi XL

Also the same is applicable for the PSP:

PSP1000, PSP2000, PSP3000 & PSP Go

The other portable did have a few revision.

Surprisingly, the Gamegear only have one model and no revision.

Nintendo was pretty mum for the console, only did late revision at a cheap cost for the NES and SNES.
N64 saw a special limited edition of the Pokemon N64 but aside from that, the GC and so far the Wii have one revision.

But Sega however did the opposite on the console and released a tons of revision and lot of different new hardware in the span of 6 years!
Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32x, Sega Saturn from 1989 to 1995!!!
That without counting the different model of Genesis, Sega CD (remember the cool CDX model?) there was even a hybrid genesis 32x!, there was also a JVC Genesis and CD together too.

As a portable it make sense to make revision similar to how the IPod and the IPhone and pretty much every small portable gadget.

So as long as the user can still play the original game they are meant to do.

I am perfectly fine with my DS Lite, some still love playing on the normal DS. The extra feature on the DSi is just extra feature to reel in non DS owner or people who have the first DS and need to upgrade it.

I will get the 3DS on day one and know full well that Nintendo track record of portable gaming, to have 4 iterations :P

That's a lot. Japan has a population about a third of the US's, yet the difference in DSs sold is only like 15 million.

How many people typing out SKU know WTF it stands for. You don't have to call every revision of a console a SKU just because some blog did, and then everyone copied them.
