Still something i would like to try before i buy. This game, at least, i imagine relies very much on the feel of it to be fun.

This game will receive zero money from me. Not a rental, not a purchase, not even when it's a bargain bin game next year.

I don't care if they rebuilt everything from the ground up, this is still a sequel to Red Steel, and Nintendo/UbiSoft straight up lied about that game, hyping it to something it wasn't. Sure, companies are entitled to hype, but not to the level of ripping off consumers. I won't get into details here, because if you played Red Steel, you'll know what I'm talking about. A game that is simply unplayable should never be released, regardless of how desperate a company is for launch titles.

So with that in mind, I refuse to purchase anything with the title Red Steel in it, as my way of throwing the middle finger back at Nintendo and Ubisoft. Some of you monkies might question my rationale, and really, it isn't hard to find something to question, this is more of a personal thing for my jaded experience with Red Steel. I'll probably make a similar post in a month when this game makes zero impact on the NPD list.

Nintendo and Ubisoft are HURT! They are hurt SO BAD!

I'm not even sure if Nintendo or even Ubisoft hyped up Red Steel to that point. It felt like the fans hyped it up themselves and added us much sugar-coating as they could to please themselves.
...I honestly didn't hear anything about Red Steel until commercials started coming out... even from watching it I thought "meh". I didn't expect much, and was quite satisfied for my purchase (not an amazing game, not a great game, barely a good game, but fun multiplayer battles was enough for me).

So yeah. Go ahead and miss out on a good game. *waves*

Yeah, you may be right, that fans (and websites) might have contributed to the over-hyping. But Nintendo and Ubisoft were no less contributors.

As for hurting Nintendo and Ubisoft, you're absolutely right; me not purchasing this game will not hinder Nintendo or Ubisoft in the slightest, they'll lose 50 bucks, which is nothing to them. I just wonder how many other jaded gamers are out there who also won't be purchasing this. Top that with the fact that these mature titles have yet to have any real success on the Wii, and you've got yourself an unsuccessful game.

Regarding me missing out on a good game, do you honestly think that this game will be in any way, fun? I suppose if you only own a Wii, then yes, this is a big deal. But for a gamer like me, with so many options on my 360 and PS3, I personally think I'll miss out on nothing special by skipping Red Steel 2. I'll dust the Wii off when the new Mario Galaxy and Metroid titles drop.

I do own a Wii, a 360, a PS3, a DSi, a PSP, and a so-so gamer PC.

And it IS a good game, I just finished playing a good 3 hours of it.
Obviously it's not a game-breaker like a big budget title on the PS3 and 360, but it definitely is one of those pretty-good games that you have a hard time choosing between (the games that are fun and awesome, but there are other games just as good as it in a different way - yet not a genre-king like the blockbusters).

So yeah, you ARE missing out on a good game, whether or not you own more than one system. It's like me missing out on FFXIII... not the best FF in the series according to fans, pretty so-so in their opinions, but they still recommend it, I'd still love to play it sometime - and so now I'm missing out on it since I chose other games over it.

I'm with you, The Alex. The first game was so terrible that it wouldn't matter how great the reviews were for this game I'd still be highly skeptical and would likely never bother playing it. Red Steel was an abomination. Instead of trying to capitalize on brand recognition of a terrible game they should have given this a completely different name. It seems to have very little in common with the first game anyway.

It wasn't THAT bad, seriously.
The graphics were sub-par, the swordplay was pathetic, but shooting was okay for the most part (unless you either played with sunlight hitting the sensor bar or if you thought the turning was too quick).
The storymode was meh, but when you got into the flow of the special, it worked wonders in difficult levels. The multiplayer was so-so as it didn't introduce anything new (other than the controls), but it played generically like Goldeneye (that's not saying much for a new game, but it satisfied anyone who played it in my house).

If you want to know what's such a terrible game, go for Furu Furu Park.

It's just terrible in every possible way.

Red Steel 1? No, there was enjoyment found in it. Nothing of note, but still found.
At a $10-$30 price range it's acceptable (though most people would overreact and demand that people pay THEM to play it... you people seriously need to try out more games if you're going to be like that).
The only way Red Steel "failed so badly" was because of the hype train the people made for it. If you fell for it, well, I'm sorry. That's all I can really say.

Actually I found the original quite playable.

It took some getting used to, sure, but once I did I enjoyed it quite a bit and I saw the glimmer of potential FPS games had on the Wii.

If you want to try a real unplayable FPS game on the Wii ... give the Farcry port a whirl.

I personally love the game.
Not love-love, just love.

At first I was a tad disappointed in the beginning... things were going a little too slow... fights were a bit too basic.
But as I kept going, learning new moves, more of Caldera opening up, more enemies being thrown at me, new enemies coming my way: I just had straight-up fun!

It's no blockbuster according to its genre (action/arcade sword-fighter) obviously, but swinging a sword just for the fun of it is what really got me. Just being stylish with every attack coming and going my way, dodging, stabbing, slashing, it just felt fun as hell.
Definitely worth the purchase on my end.

Not sure why people are so hesitant about it (other than it being a sequel to a hype-disappointer), it's fun. I thought that's what games were about.

Wrong sir. Gaming is about feeling masculine. If I don't see disgusting amounts of gore coming out of my enemies when I stab them through the stomach, I simply cannot play the game. Oh, and if there isn't any cussing whilst doing said stabbing, I won't even look at the game. Ever.

I bought Red Steel 1 on launch day... and I actually enjoyed it. Oh yes, Ubi over hyped the hell out of it and it was a big letdown but there was one thing that was actually fun... outside of the silly Yakuza members saying silly things like "darn it" when they were shot.

Red Steel had actual enjoyable split screen FPS multiplayer. Bad mouth it all you like because it did suck as a single player game. But if you've got some Wii remotes and friends, it is some great fun.

I urge people who decked out their Wii setups with extra controllers for evenings of Mario 4 player games to track down the original... it's like less than $10 now and well worth it if you stick to multiplayer.

Often enough, venturing into new territory is dangerous business. Like a soon to be ex-girlfriend experimenting with your testes, you often appreciate the effort but feel let down by the end result. Fortunately enough, while Ubisoft’s Red Steel 2 has plenty of issues, both mechanical and otherwise, in the end it avoids any serious comparisons to your girlfriend’s sexual failings. If you are already set on getting a Wii motion plus at some point and you don’t feel like paying for that Wii Resort bullshit, I recommend that you give Red Steel 2 a try.
