Here's a deal that Sam Fisher would come out of hiding for: Amazon is offering pre-orders of Splinter Cell: Conviction for Xbox 360 at the low price of $46.99 for the standard edition. All you need to do in order to get the discount is enter the code SPLINTER at checkout and $5 will be deducted from your total (the retailer is selling the game at an already-discounted $51.99 to begin with). Additionally, the coupon code also works on the PC version, if that's how you like to roll. If you liked the recently-released demo and are looking to get your hands dirty with the full-version, it's the best deal we've seen yet.
Yes, it might seem a little too easy, but we have Third Echelon's assurance that this isn't some sort of elaborate trap. (The "security device" enclosed? Totally not a tracking beacon.)

Yeah, the game has come a long way but have you played the demo for Conviction? The game is so different from all the Splinter Cells before. Its not bad or anything but at first playing the demo, it didn't feel like a Splinter Cell game at all. It now so action focused and so linear. Yeah I know Splinter Cell was linear before but you used to have to explore the large environments before to find your next destination. Now it feels that there is just one path you follow to get there. the To stress again, its not bad but its not the like stealth game/series Splinter Cell once was.

I canceled mine a month or so ago because of DRM. I really want to play the game so I am just going to wait for it on Gamefly (and I don't really care for gamefly or console games compared to PC).

The console demo for Splinter Cell was pretty playable, so I figure I'm just going to rent it. By industry standards that's the same as stealing, so I still get to stick it to the man without actually rebelling in any tangible fashion. Take THAT, Ubisoft!

I was gonna buy AC2 & Conviction on the first day, but after I'd learned of the draconian shit ass DRM, I ain't gonna buy any PC game from them here on out ! Buy the 360 version used from GameStop, so that the money goes to GS and not to Ubi !!
Ubisoft is just sooo f*ckin' French !!!

Is it so bad if we buy the game but then crack the DRM, you know, "humor" them? Because I want them to still keep bringing games to the PC. We can't win, if we complain in any form, they'll just stop making games for the PC, since we're so small and insignificant to the console gamers.
In fact, I'm surprised they even did a PC release instead of a PS3 release.

Their DRM policy is just inviting programmers to show them people can get around it. If enough people follow it they'll eventually give up in some fashion.

Maybe on the PC, we'll need to put "hardware" DRM, not "software" DRM, like on consoles. On consoles to pirate a game, you need to install a modchip on the console. And then people don't pirate because they don't want to go through that hassle as well as being banned from XBL/PSN. That is all that stops console piracy from occuring.
Why not do that for the PC? Require a small chip to be installed in the mobo, vs. software DRM? That may be cracked, but I think it'll deter more pirates than software DRM, which always falls.
If consoles were as easy to pirate for as PC, where I could torrent a game, burn it on a DVD and put it in my console and it works, you can bet that their piracy rate would be as high, if not higher than the PC. PC gamers aren't inherently immoral compared to console gamers, people mistakenly think that. Look at the PSP, a console for example.

I already have a massive backlog of games to go through but if I buy AC2 and SC:C, I WILL buy the game but only when there is a full crack available. I support them as well as getting an easy experience. I want to reward them for bringing games to the PC. Unfortunately, now it becomes more an exception when a game comes to the PC, rather than a rule. Because of our high piracy rates and smaller numbers compared to consoles. But I at least will buy my games and reward them and support PC gaming. I want as many games to come to the PC as possible, as many console game ports included.

hardware drm are as useless as software drm, of course microsoft is not going to admit it, but i know at least 5 guys who have their consoles fixed for running pirate copies and they are on live, no problems at all until today. Of course this is the kind of things that microsoft keeps for itself as they don´t want people to know that is possible to have a modchip and not being banned but it´s possible, the only solution is to understand that good games sell plain simple....nothing more nothing less...

They've discounted the normal edition of the 360 game so much that you'd have to be a fool to buy the Collector's Edition. The CE goodies just aren't even close to being worth $33.

My bad. The code works with the CE, so the price difference is $28.

I totally agree but I think it was the yucky Unreal Engine graphics that did me in like too much MSG in Chinese food. I felt let down. Why did the game seems so bad as when first shown? This just looked muh.

I can't put a finger on it, but it just didn't feel right. It may have been the controls, the AI, I don't know. I was just underwhelmed when I finally completed the demo. And it sucks, because I've really been looking forward to this game.
Like I said, though, I'm going to try it again in a few days. I like Splinter Cell as a whole too much not to give it another try.

I had a similar feeling though the demo is growing on me. I like some of the production stuff they are doing with objectives being projected on walls and telling you if there is trouble. Plus, the sonar vision is awesome.
I think my biggest complaint with the demo was that so much of the build up was that splinter cell was that the game was like Bourne with lots of hand to hand fighting and the demo was strictly a stealth game. I wanted to see more dynamic fighting and such... oh well, the game looks good and I'll definitely get it for this price.

I didn't like the demo. SC was way better as a pure stealth game. It was more challenging and suspenseful that way. Nowadays, if you do an action title you need to really knock my socks off with great cinematics and scripted events along with great gameplay (ie. Uncharted, GoW, MGS4).

sorry, but i'll just play MGS4, the ultimate sleath-action game around. Its has been around for a year or so and nothing has yet to touch a hair of its greatness. I just feel sorry for all those poor individuals who haven't experienced its greatest and the only way they can come close to it is through games like this.

I think it's great. I like the changes, and the game can still be played as a stealth game. People are overreacting about how the game is no longer stealth oriented. It's up to the player to chose how he wants to approach the level.
In Chaos Theory, there were different weapon and equipment loadouts that catered to a certain play style. I think there were three, but the only two I remember were the stealth and direct engagement. So, Conviction is not ruining anything about Splinter Cell, since the gameplay choices have been done in the past series.
