Here we are, just three short days away from the inaugural PAX on the East Coast, and CD Projekt has gone right ahead and confirmed the sequel to the hack-n-slash RPG The Witcher via the first official trailer, posted on GameTrailers. As suggested last September, the new trailer reveals that The Witcher 2 will be subtitled "Assassins of Kings," though a publisher and proposed release date have yet to be confirmed. [Update: Atari will publish the game in North America for PC.]
Additionally, no mention of projected release platforms is made in the trailer, and GameTrailers only lists "PC," seemingly refuting earlier claims that The Witcher 2 could arrive on consoles. Check out the full two-minute reveal after the break.
Yeah you filthy pirates! I guarantee I'll buy the game, but it may take me a long time before I get around to playing it. My brother would probably play the game way before I would, he's already beaten Mass Effect 2 whereas I haven't even started on it and I bought the game! : P
the first one sold over a million copies even though it wasn´t a known title and had starforce as the protection when it appeared, they even re-released the game enhanced and give it away for free to the ones who already bought it, i think it´s pretty safe to say that it was a success even though it only appeared on the p.c. so i don´t see why it should be any different now, piracy is there it won´t go plain simple but when a game is good it sells that´s how it is even though many companies (cof..cof..ubi.cof...) deny it.
I couldn't agree more. the devlopers of this game are a small group based out of Poland, and I am guessing they did not have a great budget for the first game, but it was still my favorite RPG.
If you haven't read any of the Witcher books either, go and read them, it is a fantastic story.
I hope this comes out for consoels too, that way console gamers can enjoy this too.
Hack-n-slash? This game wasn't baldurs gate dark alliance or dungeon siege. This had a real sociopolitical narrative driven by identity crisis. How dare you?
Interesting how "The Witcher" text has the same font as "The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf", that was cancelled for consoles. I prefer the font for the original PC game myself.
NO! I WANT IT FOR MY PS3! ;( My PC had problems running the original smoothly. The sequel will probably murder it in its sleep ;(
I love the game and the books so much (seriously, go read The Witcher saga. Sex, violence, rape and more violence. None of this gay-emo vampire bullshit).
Oh, yeah, there is a chance that some of the books in the saga are not available in English yet. You should still read them. Not understanding the text should not spoil the overall awesomeness of the books.
Got to the swamp and got bored because i didnt feel like the game was picking up at all. I guess i should give the game another go with all these good reviews from you guys.
Bah. I wish I didn't have to play Geralt of Rivia. He's ok, but I really prefer games where I can create custom characters.
Of course, the ability to play him as a drinking, womanizing, murdering sleazeball made it a lot more bearable. I don't like when I'm forced to play a hero with a set, defined personality, especially when it's a nancy boy hero kind of personality (i.e. every JRPG hero). At least when I play Geralt, I can make him conform to my own idea of what's badass, instead of someone else's.
Text from the single frame after the logo, first part makes it sound PC exclusive:
This message is for our biggest fans. Analyxing our stuff pixel by pixel, bit by bit. It's good to see you again! :-) BTW: Simple minded people think that nobody is reading these days, dear reader of this, we think that we can agree that it is bullshit, huh? Same as the fact that single player RPGs are dead, or PCs? We sold 1.5 mln units game from dying genre on dying platform - so we somehow cannot agree ;-)
Before we start talking about TW2 : ) please let us thank you for your great support and appreciation. It allays motivate us and make us happy.
We started working on TW2 right after release of TW. Out goal was to create all the things which made TW so great in TW2 even better. We are very proud of TW but let be honest, it was our debut. We never made any game before, and we practically learnt as we worked. So there were many things which could be done better, you know it as good as we ;-) But the vision, the main concept remain the same: game with mature, captivating, and unliniear story, and full of spectacular combat. A game created by a team of independent thinkers immune to corporate priorities, who don't care what's trendy at a given moment.
The core vision of the game hasn't changed. What has changed is the quality and the maturity we can deliver. That's largely because, we're more experienced and also due to the fact that, we've created our own technology. Do you remember how we made significant improvements with the Aurora Engine in the original game, but it still had its limitations? Now we've created technology designed specifically to create non-linear games with extensive plotlines and a living world... well, there's no point in expanding on that too much - you have to check out our tech yourselves! Nevertheless, we have many reasons to believe that you will like The Witcher 2! See you soon and stay tuned :)
Awesome, I just finished the 1st one yesterday and it was fantastic. I highly recommend it to action-RPG fans.
I was planning on getting a new computer this summer anyway (partly just to play Dragon Age) and now I'll have another awesome, western style RPG to look forward too.
Loved this game...first single player game I've finished in literally years. It wasn't perfect but I definitely got sucked in, I think it's like $10 bucks now, definitely worth the buy! I'll be getting the sequel for sure
