PoP: The Forgotten Sands getting new mode with GameStop pre-orders

Let's face it, buying a game is just too simple. You don't want to just walk into any store and know that you'll get the same game you would get somewhere else. No, you crave complication. Sensing this innate need, Ubisoft has announced, via the Prince of Persia Facebook page, that those who pre-order Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands from GameStop will receive an exclusive new game mode. The offer, incidentally, applies only to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, so PC and Wii gamers are out of luck.

The bonus mode is entitled Forgotten Arena and tasks players with defeating "waves of relentless enemies" in classic survival mode style. There is no time limit, killed enemies will regenerate health and the number of enemies increases over time. The description also notes that players who can defeat 100 enemies "may have what it takes to become a real Prince of Persia," though it's unclear if doing so will unlock any actual rewards or any actual royalty.

There is no such thing as exclusive pre-order bonuses unless they're physical objects. They all become available to download sooner or later.

Rarely do preorder bonuses become available to everyone.
I can't actually think of a single game I own that has had a preorder bonus that stopped being exclusive to the preorder later on.

inFamous, LittleBigPlanet, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (for a brief amount of time anyways), and those are just the ones off the top of my head.

The 'preorder bonus' for Darksiders was available to anyone with the internet.

When you think about it though, those bonuses can be considered exclusive in the sense that they aren't released to the mass market until about a half-year after the game comes out, and many people by then will have already played that particular game or forgot about it.....and Im using your examples of inFamous, X-Men, and you could also add UFC to the mix. you actually end up saving money anyway when getting that content instead of paying for it later, especially if you use the Heavy Rain $5 episode as an example.

Not if you're the type to wait until a game drops in price or goes on sale before buying. I'd much rather wait a few months and get the game for half price and pay the $5 for DLC that people spent $60 to get for free.

They would not be able to have any achievements tied to extra game mode, so it wouldn't be worth playing anyway, IMO.

They could actually, if this "mode" is released day one and has to be paid for by those who didn't pre-order the game, similar to Fable 2's ripoff mini-games you had to buy for several achieves in it.

You didnt have to buy Fable II Pub Games to get those achievements. The achievements could be obtained through the in-game gamemasters.

Whoa, really? So are you saying you refused to play video games before MS cooked up achievements? Is the Xbox 360 your first console ever?

For me, and perhaps others, this extra mode sans achievements is not enough to entice me to pre-order the game.

I'll get the game with or without the bonus. I just hope its like the Wolverine pre-order bonus.

I hate to break it to ya but that Wolvie bonus was BS lol......I slaved beating that arena for like 2 hours and got NOTHING extra. Hopefully this one is better

Yeah, I totally meant NOT like the Wolverine pre-order bonus, lol. That was awful and I was glad it was free because I would not have paid for it.

Nope I'm going to agree with Ezio and say pre-order bonuses are sweet, and you can pre order the game, put some money down, and if it sucks then you get your money back, but you keep the pre order bonus, unless it comes with the game, in which case you only get your money, which is fine as well.

it depends. i hate store exclusive bonuses since getting all of them is way more trouble than its worth. if its the same bonus across stores, then i think its great.

Yeah, like in God of War III there are like 6 costumes. 4 of which are pre-order bonuses.

Sick of the crappy ones....I do however like swag. No reason to preorder a game really unless you get something free with it. Buying a game for full price on the first day is not a smart way to buy all your games otherwise.

The only one I liked was Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. giving you the first one on XBLA for free (Saving me $18)

I love incentives as long as they are worth it, like my Dante's Inferno action figure.

Only one is actually unlockable in the game Fear Kratos, and it's just a re color of his original.

God, I hate pre-order bonuses.

This type of shit is getting out of hand. Seems like every game now has some kind of exclusive content you have to jump through hoops and/or live in a certain country to get access to. It's BS.

And what sucks even more is that a lot of the time all of that content is on everyone's disc, you just need the right code to unlock it. God of War 3 has all pre-order skins and the Ultimate Edition content on every disc, I know cause I unlocked it all on my non-UE version with 100KB licenses.

I don't know what's worse: retailer exclusive game modes or the fact that games have facebook pages now. They're both really really bad.

Arena combat would have been fun in the previous trilogy, but after seeing how they are taking some of the elegance of PoP combat in order to make it more group based instead of individual based I don't think I will like this.

Horde mode doesn't seem fun for PoP. I could be wrong I guess.

@lsutiger988 Ever heard of a lil' thing called "used games sales"? They only account for a third of industry sales - a third which the publishers who make the games you love so much won't receive and won't be able to pump back into making more games for you to love.

[sarcasm}Yes.. because it's obvious that anyone who buys an used game would have paid full price had the used not been avaliable... It's not like these people buy these games precisely because they find them at a price point they feel comfortable paying for that specific game... not like that at all... [\sarcasm]. And how about people who buy not-so-great games at launch BECAUSE they can later resell it?? aren't those extrabuys which had not ocurred without the option to sell used games good for the industry??

Sounds like I'm getting the PS3 version then (was debating between it and the Wii version); then again, if I preorder, I can't also wait for reviews. So it would seem that I should REALLY want the bonus(es) or else I might find myself having spent more money on a game than I'd like to.

I am sick of pre-order bonus. I live in a country without any gamestop or any way to pre-order of games. I didn't mind when Gold lancers were pre-order bonus because it did nothing game wise. But when armor (with different stats) in Mass effect 2 and a huge game mode being cut like this game, it makes me feel like i am not their target customer(even though i own sands of time and POP 2008) and unwanted.

They got their wish. I'll give this game a pass. Whats next? Multiplayer in Modern warfare 3 an exclusive pre-order bonus from Gamestop?

PS: Luckily, i was able to mooch off all the pre-order bonus in Mass effect 2 due to the XBL glitch.

I wonder how much GameStop pays for these pre-order bonuses. There's no way it can touch the amount of money GameStop makes off of their resale business. Stop encouraging gamers to go there, and maybe you'll lose less money to second-hand sales. If not, stop bitching about it.

This + AC2 PC DRM means I'll be passing. Ubisoft should just stop before they alienate their entire market share.

That was a load of crap. You're right that the producers/developers don't see the money from used sales of games but without the used game business a large portion of the new copies wouldn't have sold with the games traded in towards them. So the extra sales trades get them on their hot new games plus all the marketing and new sales GS brings in actually does help so get your facts straight.

Assuming (based on the Australian market) that you need to trade in three games to buy a new retail box, you're saying that losing three sales to make one is somehow beneficial to the developers and publishers? Yeah, no, go and suck at GameStops teet a little more.

I hate pre-order bonuses. All they do is make me feel like I'm buying an incomplete product.

I'm not "sucking at their teet" I'm just not being naive. Losing 3 sales? They could have bought those new too. You're also forgetting about the massive library of used games that don't sell new anymore. Is Sony missing out on that $2.99 copy of Gran Turismo 3 or is EA's budget falling because of the little kid buying a 99 cent copy of Madden 03? Also, being so against used sales must mean you never lend any games to friends or sell your games in any fashion. Lending a game would be them losing a sale through that logic. Wouldn't be surprised if you're in love with Ubisoft's new DRM. The more strict it is narrowing rights down to a single user the more units will sell, right?

2. Yes, those three trade ins probably were new but the loss occurs when those three games get purchased used as opposed to new, thus denying the dev/pub of three sales.
3. How is seven year old copy of Madden even relevant to this conversation?
4. Renting and lending are entirely different. I rent and lend all the time. If the games good I'll go and buy it (like I did for BFBC2 just this weekend). If the games bad, then the loss of sale is obviously on the developer anyway.
