Video Games Live plans to record a show on April 1 (no joke) in New Orleans to be aired on PBS stations in July. As this is going on the tee-vees, special guests and spectacle are planned. Ralph Baer will play Pong against an audience member on stage, with the symphony providing the sound. Guests for the post-show "meet and greet" include Tommy Tallarico (Earthworm Jim/Advent Rising), Jack Wall (Myst/Mass Effect), Marty O'Donnell (Halo), Russell Brower (Blizzard), Gerard Marino (God of War), Christopher Tin (Civilization IV) and more.
VGL Executive Producer Tommy Tallarico tells Joystiq that the previous attempt to record the show in February fell through due to licensing and approval issues. Tickets for the show are available from Ticketmaster. Hopefully, the second attempt goes smoother.

I also have the sudden urge to gather up games for each person to sign at the meet 'n greet.

It's been ~2 years since their last Seattle performance. I'm starving.

Check their site-- they wound up back in Pittsburgh last month, so I'd imagine they tried to get as many return engagements as possible. Just be prepared for it to be slightly less mind-blowing the second time around (at least that's how it was for me... they played a somewhat weaker set, and the choir seemed to phone it in at times).
Here's hoping the New Orleans show turns out spectacular, and that it gets broadcast.

I passed up the chance to see them in NY. I regret that.

I lovez teh game musicz.
I went to the NY show, it was alright. I found it hard to enjoy the music, everyone was so loud (encouraged by Tommy).
I understand some people prefer it that way, rock concert style or whatever, but I like the Play Symphony performances better. They ask people to not be noisy while the orchestra is going and it really gives you a chance to take in the quality live music. If you didn't have the luxury of hitting up PLAY, I'd say VG Live is definitely worth a trip.

Awesome show they put on. I even had the chance to volunteer at the shows when they came to my town and watch backstage. Join the street team if you folks are interested!

I point out that Ralph Baer will not be playing Pong (which is Atari's vertical-movement-only tennis interpretation) but rather his 1960s brown box prototype system, the tech demo that led to the Magnavox Odyssey, precursor of all home video game systems.
