While there's always the worry that the Skate franchise could start packing in a bit too much (the Tony Hawk-ization of Skate, if you will), it looks like the folks in charge of improving the annual franchise know to keep the game focused on skateboarding culture and real physics. We'll be checking out the game this weekend at PAX East, so look for a more thorough opinion soon (and feel free to tell us in the comments below what you want to know about the game).

From all the news lately, it sounds like this is shaping up to be a good game.

If the focus is on user-created content, I hope they let this one simmer for a little longer than a year before they cram Skate 4 down everyone's throat. So many games that talk about user-created content get replaced before a community of creators can really get going. Look at StarCraft and Warcraft 3. People were coming out with new custom maps and crazy new game modes for years after those games launched. It helped that Blizzard wasn't in a hurry to ship a follow-up to either title.

Anyone remember that really easy Skate 2 trophy for making a custom graphic on the website and getting it into your game? I do, because I never got it, because the custom graphic would never finish saving or uploading or whatever it was doing.
If it was in-game, down/uploading skate spots and so on, no problems for me. On the website, nah, no chance it seemed.
For Skate 3 to have this much user generated stuff, or potential certainly, all I ask is that it works for sure. Maybe I'll try the Skate 2 editor again, if it's still up, might work this time, months after I've finished with the game...

I think this is a huge improvement over Skate. 2. I really enjoy making realistic skate videos but with the near cut and paste of environment in 2 I was kind of dissapointed. I am huge into my own skate lines with objects and what not, so user created content with this much detail will keep me busy for a long time.

Is it still May 11 for North America or did it change to May 14?

I really want to know more about how hard mode alters the game - like whats the difference between landing and failing a flatground flip trick? In Skate I found unrealistic tricks still too easy to do (or happen as a result of me failing a different trick), which kinda takes from the immersion.

Qs for Black Box:
Will the graphics creator be in-game this time? If so, will we be able to import image files from our hard drives? If no, why the hell not? Also if no, will the online creator work more than 10% of the time?
How many online players will be allowed in spot challenge mode? 8 in Skate 2 was waaaay too many. This was my favorite mode in Skate (at 4 players) but waiting for 7 other players to complete their trick runs is just too much downtime.
