Hot on the heels of Walmart's very sweet deal on Halo: Reach, Amazon has gone ahead and matched it, offering patrons of the pre-order arts a $20 gift card to sign up for Bungie's latest. Based on some very high-brow mathematical calculations, we've deduced that the gift card is actually a 47 percent savings on the title's $59.99 price tag -- a damn decent deal, to be frank.
... what? Oh, you think our math is off? What, did you go to some math college or something? You did? Well, uh, we're ... uh -- look, jet packs!

Good to hear, especially since I prefer buying from Amazon over Walmart.

Agreed. Their "Making Of Halo 2" is my all time favorite. They had some great shots of pizza in there.
And the rest of it was pretty good too.

Keep in mind that you're still paying $59 for the game. You don't actually get the credit until the game ships, and once you get the credit, you only have 1 month (yes, 1 month) to spend it - otherwise it's gone. Just make sure you're ready to spend on another game in that 1-month timeframe in September!
I know this because I did the $10 credit for GOW3 and the thing expires on 4/30/09.

Joystiq is a video game blog, not a news site. 1/3rd off a game sounds pretty post worthy to me.

it's actually a 1/3 off of a FUTURE game -- you'll still be paying $60 for this purchase. And as a video games blog, should Joystiq post every one of the deals Amazon does like this? As someone else mentions, Super Mario Galaxy 2 has the same deal, but for a $50 game... Whatever, I'll be over at Kotaku reading interesting stuff.

If you think you know better than someone what to post on their own site, maybe it's time you started your own blog. It's never been easier or cheaper, so put your money where your mouth is.

I'm not sure if I should hop on this pre-order, or wait until they release a "legendary" edition with some garbage that I'll desperately want.

thats what got me to buy BFBC2 from them....I suppose I will do the same with this, because most likely they will end up having it for like $51 at some point between now and release....or even cheaper....so I will just keep an eye out on the sales for it...

Amazon seems to consitantly come across with good deals, be it on the pre-order or after the game has been out a while. Thanks for the heads up!

$20 is 47% of what Halo 3 ODST SHOULD have cost.
Zing!
Actually ODST my favorite.

No way. I'll be picking mine up at midnight. I'm not going to sit around on Sept 21 waiting for the UPS guy to show up.
