I don't mind the characters in XIII or the world, which is incredibly realized with a rich (and sequel friendly) history.

I'll agree with you that Hope sucks, though.

@Teabag.

Why do you assume that Vanille is trying to make an American accent? It sounds pretty Australian to me. I just assume they wanted them to have different accents due to the fact that her and the other Australian speaker are a little different from the others.

It's not even set in America.. so I don't get it at all why everyone must have a fantastic American accent or else they're stupid and annoying? Does that mean you hate anyone who isn't American in general?

The problem is is that the VA for Vanille tends to switch in an out of an Australian accent.

Also I do have to join the mass majority in hating Hope.

You may hate Vanille, but they gave her great cans. The only game to make that thought actually occur to me since FFVII, oddly enough. I was considerably younger then and Tifa had huge knocks, so now to say that is likely just pervy of me.

I hated Vanille's accent because she sounded Australian at times, then American sometimes, then sometimes she almost sounded like a southerner.

Like when you win a battle and she says, "Yea-es!"

But yeah, I definitely disliked Hope's attitude and his little speeches.

I'd be very surprised if he was talking about a NA release. The FF PSOne classic releases have a history of spending a few months in Japan before heading over here. I could be wrong, but the trend says that we're going to be waiting a while longer.

Reuben, I'd be more surprised if they announced ANY of the following for the NA/EU PSN store

Vagrant Story
Thousand Arms (wonder if anyone remembers this lil' gem)
Parasite Eve (1 and 2)
Front Mission 3
Granstream Saga
SaGa Frontier (1 and 2)
Suikoden (1 and 2)
Legend of Legaia
Legend of Mana
Legend of Dragoon (unsure if thats on there or not, but just to be safe)
Valkyrie Profile
Einjhar (or however its spelled)

I'm saying, half of those things even if they eventually do come out on the US store will never come to the EU store.

EU store doesn't even have any RE games on it.. No Tomb Raider games last time I checked, doesn't have Gran Turismo, doesn't have Grandia, no Spyro games, doesn't have Silent Hill, doens't have Dino Crisis etc etc etc
It took months and months to get FF7+8 and MGS1 after the US store did...
I can keep going...

So yeah... We got Vagrant Story... Big F'n whoop...

Can you get ps1 games playing on the psp without any hassle?

If so, i might get this just for the sake of playing the last "real" old final fantasy

Indeed you can. I have all of my store-bought PSOne classics on my PSP. You can directly connect to the PSN store from the PSP and download from there, or you can connect it to a PS3 if you have one.

Don't forget about transferring saves from one system to the other so if you want to play at home and continue from the same game you can.

Usually games run fine. FF7 runs fantastically. FF8 has a lot of known issues with no real solution. In short, when spells are cast in FF8 the game will randomly freeze, making it unplayable for the most part. Also when you run into the Brothers it locks up most of the time (for some users). People have tried toggling settings, getting the latest firmware, redownloading, etc, no solution and it seems really random. The only guarantee of it working seems to be having a PSPGo. Everyone's work around for those points of constant freezing is to load your save on to a PS3, play past that part, then take the save back to the PSP.

These issues occurred back with CFW rips of FF8 as well though, but none for FF9. My guess is FF9 will run like a champ on the PSP.

Far and away the pinnacle of the franchise imo. Final Fantasy is supposed to have knights, mages, and moogles. I will buy this in a heartbeat.

"Final Fantasy is supposed to have knights, mages, and moogles. "

i'm with you in loving FF9, but i couldn't possibly disagree more with this statement. final fantasy isn't "supposed" to have anything other than what the developers want it to have.

i'm so sick and tired of all of these FF fanboys acting like they have the final say on what constitutes a final fantasy game and what doesn't. you see this kind of thing everywhere with people claiming that FF13 isn't a "real" FF game. if you don't like some final fantasy games, that's all good and fine, you're more than entitled to your own opinion. but to act like you hold any authority over someone else's creative work is another thing entirely.

@David
Really? So if I was Mr. Kojima / Konami I could go ahead and make a game about a cat who has to cross the street and avoid cars, and I call it Metal Gear 5, it is a Metal gear game? You would accept that as a Metal Gear game? Oh wait, you don't get to say cause I'm the developer.

Usually a a number sequel is just that, a sequel. In the case of Final Fantasy, that's not the case.
The reason they keep the Final Fantasy name tacked on to these games is because they'd be over-looked if they didn't.
See: Vagrant Story, XenoGears, Valkyrie Profile

The above are better then a good number of FF games, and not nearly as recognized.

In that sense; you're right. SquareEnix can call just about anything Final Fantasy, cause it really has no rules to it. (Though, from what I remember, a FF game consists of: a Cid, Biggs, and Wedge, Moogle(s), Chocobos, and magic.)

How many times have you played this? I was pretty let down on my first playthrough. Nothing really stuck aside from Vivi and the song "You're Not Alone!" - But then the second time I played through about 3 years later I appreciated the game a lot more. Only thing I never came around to was Freya. So cliche.

To be fair, I only played it once. It's just that Zidane grated on me SO much, he personifies most things I really dislike in a character, plus he is a monkey. I hate monkeys.

Honestly, I may play it again if it comes out on PSN, just to get my portable FF fix (cause I already played through 8) and there were some gameplay mechanics I really liked in it. It's just...argh that monkey.

Eh, they probably aren't adding it in because the game's storyline has 20 kinds of crazy all over it, and is waaaaay too deep for us simple folk to geet.

Id...? Past lives? Freaky one-a-girl blue-hair genes? And a dude with glasses and a kickass sword?! GTFO! You blew my mind!

But seriously, FF9 will be a good addition to PSN, good for all the fans.

argh, i'm so torn between a DS and a PSP. DS has those FF remakes, the world ends with you, and a new golden sun coming out. but with a PSP i can play 7, 8, tactics, (and now) 9 on the go.

bah. no idea which to pick.

Get a PSP now, then start saving your pennies and next year either get a 3DS (which will be backwards-compatible) or a regular DS/DSi, which will inevitably drop in price once 3DS comes out.

DS Lite you have FF4A, FF5A, FF6A, Dawn of Souls(1&2), and FF3 DS, FF4 DS, FFTA, and FFTA2 (awesome game)... FFXII Revenant Wings, Chrono Trigger, World Ends with You(great new IP), Kingdom Hearts 365/2... Very RPG friendly system now.

PSP you have FF7, FF8, soon FF9... and Crisis Core, FFT: War of the Lions, and Dissidia. Either way you will have tons of great games to play. If you have a CFW you can run a GBA emulator on it too, so access to FF1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9 and Tactics, Crisis Core.

Get the DS (but just get a 2nd hand Lite, as the 3DS is out in a year)!
The World Ends With You is better than any Final Fantasy game ever made, and games like Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime and Ninjatown are great fun (albeit shallow) too.

Seriously, I have both a DS Lite and PSP 2000 and would recommend the DS to every type of gamer there is. All my PSP is for is a few PS1 games, God of War, Patapon and Crisis Core. Everything else has been a bit disappointment.

Oh, and FWIW, if the looming 3DS release is convincing you to get a PSP, remember that the PSP2's release (although not yet announced) will be following the 3DS's very closely.
