Well, maybe at least drop the price even lower than $100 before phasing out, but MS says "noooooo..."

that would mean you could get 240 GB for a $100, while the 250 GB hard drive is still selling for $130. I can assure you that Microsoft isn't that stupid.

$50? That's what the 20GB is selling for online right now. (Lowest being $45, highest being a whopping $200.)

Maybe for $65? That would be 240GB for $130, which is close enough to the price of the new drive but still higher than the new one.

Yeah but give people options. There's no announcement of the 60 GB HDD being phased out, which is current $100. Which means that we will be stuck with a $100 60 GB HDD and a $130 250 GB HDD. It's a scam to force users to make purchases they don't want to. It's like EA shutting down their servers every time a new game is released, forcing you to purchase their newest title.

Yep. It's such a scam. No one's going to buy the 60 GB HDD with the 250 GB HDD coming to the market. So they phase out the 120 GB HDD so people are forced to either make a dumb decision or spend a lot of money. The route people would take is obvious. Just like the game room. The ideas MS comes up with are great but everything is about money to them. They never take a slight loss (which will still profit them a lot) for the customer, so everyone's happy. Instead they take us all for fools.

@Spike, why do you think Microsoft takes us for fools? It's called Xbox LIVE. Anyone stupid enough (myself included) to buy into this LIVE crap is a fool, and it gives MS the incentive and power to manipulate their marketing strategies to suit them as opposed to the customers.

Xbox Live is a different story. I do not mind paying for a gateway to online gaming, access to a multitude of media, and social connection. Besides you can pay $50 for 13 months of Xbox Live. That's not even $4 a month. It's the rest of their crap I can't stand. Over priced proprietary hardware and a game room that forces you to purchase games you already own or can play for free online. There's a fine line between paying for a benefit and paying for crap.

If you can grab a 120gb cheap, I'd go for it, only keeping games you play regulary, installed.. I never filled mine, although I upgraded with a Forza Elite, for the extra space..

They sell a ps3 slim with a 120gig HDD or whatever size it is, but also sell the old huge system w/60-80gigs for the same price.

this could be heading towards the slim, or just MS getting out of the memory storage all together, may not be long before they phase out the 250gb too before it really joins in.. using the smaller mainboard (Valhalla?) and letting us buy our own hdd's and popping them in the back..

I just read this off of Major Nelson's post about USB storage...

"I highly recommend using flash based instead of spinning media like a hard drive…it’s just going to give you a MUCH better experience."

Hmmm...makes me think something else is in the works. Perhaps a new camera like device runs a lot better using flash storage?
