@ aristokrat

Man I hope so. Such a great technology like that could really open the RAM bottlenecks of the 360.

This makes the $200 arcade SKU much more valuable since it supports plenty of storage without additional accessories.

uhhhh what?

I'm confused.....

you are saying a $200 SKU gains value because now you can buy a $100 HDD and get it for the same price as the "Elite" bundle?

I'm confused

So who or where has a cable to purchase or "borrow" to be able to transfer data from one hd to the other larger capacity hd? I said borrow since its a one time deal = right?

Remember the last couple of posts where MS said they dropped the price of the non-existent 120GB upgrade? Yeah, so much for that. One would hope MS kept the 120GB to replace the 60GB, but no. :(

I feel odd about this, because I just got an Xbox 360 elite with a 120 gig HD this morning in the mail. I feel bad for everyone getting hosed, but I feel good knowing that I should be safe.

Ugh so those 256 mg xbox360 memory cards are finally offically worthless, huh?

Don't worry.. I always felt like an ass for buying one. But now I feel extra dumb for still owning it.

Folks, let me say it again. Go to you local Target store, and if you see Xbox 360 hardware on clearance, expect an announcement that something is going to replace said items. 120GB HDs were being sold for $75 a little over a month ago. About two weeks ago, 512MB MUs hit clearance. Wired 360 controllers have been clearanced, so expect an announcement that they won't make them anymore either. It's hard to find the wireless adapters for PCs that let you use the wireless controllers on the PC. I picked one up a few years ago for $5 when they were clearanced.

I wonder if installing Halo 3 to a flash drive (or any drive other than the main hard drive) would be okay. Has anyone at Bungie talked about this?

So, they phase out the regular proprietary mem cards and are now switching to USB. You think they need those ports for other things like say... Natal? What will those proprietary ports be used for in the future? Maybe the next hw revision won't include those.

Why is everyone so up in arms about this? I'm beginning to think people just need something to complain about...

If you go to just about any retail outlet, you're going to find 500GB external hard drives for about $100. (Yes, I know they're cheaper online.) But those are GENERIC, USE ON ANY COMPUTER hard drives. So you get a lot of storage for a pretty good price.

But then you have a completely proprietary hard drive that can only be used on a specific system. It's 250GB for $130. Oh my god, stop the presses, we're being ripped off! Whatever...

Does nobody remember that storage prices are ALWAYS changing? I've seen 16GB flash/pen drives for $5 in some stores. Does that mean MS should be selling the 250GB for $78? No, because it's a completely different kind of storage space.

$130 is MORE than fair in the current market. People just need to understand where we're coming from and where we're going. There will eventually be 1 TB drives for the Xbox that will only cost $150. Are you going to complain then because the generic 1 TB external drives are down to $60?

Sheesh... nobody is ever satisfied anymore...

@Killjebus...

I'm not saying I'm "happy". I'm just saying that people are overreacting to the price. If the entry price for this were $300 or something, yeah, I'd be upset too. But most external storage devices between 100GB and 500GB are in the $75-150 range, depending on things like brand, power source, etc.

The way it strikes me when I read comments like we have here is that people are just immediately reacting to something without spending even 30 seconds trying to get a little perspective first.

If everyone thinks they should just be able to buy any/every tech item in existence for $10 each, then the problem isn't with the provider, it's with the entitled consumer that has absolutely no world view at all...

I bought a 1TB external HDD for $85. Western Digital, not some off brand. The problem I have with your logic is that you are saying it is okay to pay more for less functionality, and less space.

And only the connection mechanism is proprietary. The drive itself is a standard notebook HDD. You can get a brand new Western Digital Scorpio 500gb notebook HDD right now for $74. This is the same model (different capacity) drive that PCWorld recommends using for a cheaper alternative to Microsoft's inflated pricing.

@Martin

I've seen single examples of drives that are cheaper, sure. But when you look at the entire range of products available, it doesn't change the fact that people are reacting to a non-issue here. The price is totally reasonable and when MS sells a few million of them, that will prove that consumers are okay with it.

We can get upset and say it's too expensive, but when we all go buy one anyway, what is everyone to believe: our words or our wallets?

So my question is if Microsoft does come out with a slim how would they attach the HDD. Are they going to have different hard drives? or are they just going to make the console shorter and not 'slimmer'

I can't even imagine being their spokesman and having to say, "Come get your awesome 250gb HDD for $130" and still feel like a decent human being. And to think that until recently he had to do it for half that size at the same price.
