If you've found every little piece of news about Eskil Steenberg's weird, pretty, procedural MMO Love completely scintillating, you'll be pleased to know the game is now available. The game client is free to download, but players have to pay for a 10-Euro voucher which allows them to access the game for 30 days. Much like in real life, Love doesn't come cheap.
Potential players can download the client (as well as a system spec test) from the game's official site -- but if you're hoping to actually know what you're doing once you fall into Love, you might want to check out some supplemental materials.

Well, Angels & Airwaves' LOVE was released for free... It's a good album too!

This game is totally weird from what I can tell. Haven't tried it myself. I guess you walk around this cool looking world and build a base with resources you find in that world. You can attack other bases and steal their resources if I remember correctly. The goal is apparently to defend your base from AI attacks. It looks like one part Rampart, one part SimCity, and one part... Some weird action adventure game.
It has me intrigued, and I might give it a shot for a month. It would be nice if he would offer a discounted or even free trial first month.

The author's explained that the fee is essentially the bare minimum he requires to both run the servers and avoid having to find a job, assuming he can get at least 2500 players subscribed to the game. Each player joining the server costs him something like €2.50, so a free trial (with no up-front purchase, remember) would essentially kill the project in a manner of minutes.
That said, a lot of the reports coming in from people who've been playing the game describe it as "well-conceived but poorly implemented", so you might want to wait for reviews before you jump in.

I read the explanation. Just like one commentor said, though, the reasoning doesn't matter to the consumer, the price does. I commend him for his model and fully support it, but I still say a discounted rate for the first month would be nice. As it stands, there's a VERY small chance I'll try it, as I still have things like Cave Story Wii to buy, but if there was a ~$5 (USD) trial option, I'd have signed up yesterday.

Sounds a little like what minecrafts multiplayer survival will be like, only minecraft will have PvP, maps bigger than the earth and is a one off €9.95 fee.

But love has better graphics compared to MineCraft, and in this day and age apparently better graphics mean a better game.

I find minecrafts graphics part of the appeal, i love how everything is blocky and low res.

Love is a very interesting game, particularly for the rather stale MMO genre, but I'm afraid Eskil is locking himself out of the market with such a high price point. He is expecting people to cough up the same amount as they pay for a triple-A title like WoW every month? I doubt that will happen. It's a niche product, and will definitely remain so if he doesn't offer some kind of trial period or drop the price a bit.
