Resistance 3 reappears in franchise survey
57
"Do you think that there is a future version of Resistance, Resistance 3, being developed?" Without a doubt, this is one of the strangest questions in a recent survey sent by PlayStation to its fans. Since the appearance of a mysterious billboard advertising a sequel to Insomniac Games' FPS franchise in October, fans have questioned not if -- but when -- Resistance 3 would be officially announced.
The follow-up question is meant to gauge interest in a possible third game (also mentioned in an artist resume), a puzzling proposition considering a sequel seems guaranteed. Insomniac's track record with holiday releases on PS3 has been nearly impeccable -- alternating between Resistance and Ratchet and Clank games like clockwork. Should Resistance 3 continue this pattern, we wouldn't be surprised if the game were announced some time soon, to launch on PS3 by the holiday. Unfortunately, this survey offers no conclusive evidence of whether or not that will be true.
[Thanks, James S.!]

Combine all the good from R1(weapon wheel, story, co-op in the story, etc) and R2(co-op, multiplayer, etc), amp up the graphics and I will buy

I'd rather play Resistance 2's co-op than Uncharted 2's. Shit was straight up fun the whole way through.

Exactly.
The survey, sadly, exists b/c although R2 sold OK, Insomniac knows that most of us hated the SP campaign. I certainly did. It was a struggle to even finish it a full year after it's release.

I actually liked R2's storyline a lot more than I did the first game. It actually provided the whereabouts and reasons of the initial Chimerian invasion and why they were doing what they were doing. I like knowing the true reasons my enemy fights me and it made the Chimera more than just another target, but a true damn enemy.
And god damn, I'm by myself again!? This is just like when I found out how many people hated Half Life's expansion Blue Shift which I liked. And for those stating the story seemed to be copy-paste, I don't know what you're referring to but this is in no way a copy paste and all the enemies are still there....if you had played the PSP Resistance:Liberation, read the intel files and went to the Resistance 2 teaser site which gave you files per the correct codes, than you would know that the Chimera began to evolve. But I don't feel like defending the game that I liked because its different from the game you guys liked.

The word "duh" comes to mind. They will really have to step it up to get me to buy. MW2, BFBC2, and halo reach, are already dominating, blasting, and stick grenading my wallet. The resistance games are good but the multiplayer just doesn't last for me.

Did you mean the album "The Resistance" or the song "Resistance?" Cuz the song isn't bad, but the album as a whole would be a better custom soundtrack.

How about dropping multiplayer and just concentrate on a really good single player experience. I could care less about online gaming with all the little kids cussing and whatnot.

@ Darth Nazgul - I've been playing Killzone 2 all week . . . Nothing but 12 year olds and foul mouthed, whiney 'adults.' That's when randoms actually bother using a headset (that doesn't only seem to record their loud ass game speakers I mean).
It's not the online service, it's the games you play. I don't get either in LittleBigPlanet or Nuts & Bolts, yet I launch into Killzone or Halo 3 and all the random players are the above mentioned. Anyways, playing with friends ftw.

The R2's competitive multiplayer was sub-par in comparison to other multiplayer titles. With all the hype about 40-player (or however many it was) matches, it felt slapped on and unfinished.
Yet, it wasn't as bad as the game's co-op mode, with random hordes of bullet-sponge enemies spawning around you as you make your way through uninspired terrain. It was absolutely horrific. It felt more like Serious Sam, with all the fun taken out of it.
Thankfully, the single player campaign made up for the disappointment that was multiplayer.

I, like you, could care less about multiplayer. The difference is that I mean what I say - I care some about multiplayer and it is possible for me to care less than I do. Please use language properly - it's I COULDN'T (or could not if you don't want to use a contraction) care less.
Anyway, even though I COULD care less, I don't care that much about multiplayer. I enjoy playing online with friends, but have little to no desire to play with randoms, and as none of my friends own a PS3 (bloody 360 fanboys the lot of them...I own both) I COULDN'T care less about the multiplayer. Would be a shame if it was dropped for those who do care though.

Duh is the first thing that pops up in my mind. The one thing i don't get is why some people think that the game is coming out in 2011 just because of the movie poster. The movie poster could be just a plug for the game that is already out.
i really believe that it is coming out this holiday, and I will most likely buy it.
All they need to do is combine R1's single player atmosphere and combine it with R2's multiplayer and bam amazingness!

Not trying to troll, but I'm always surprised people are as enthralled by these games as they are. I never really felt there was much to distinguish it from, I don't know, Halo or something. I guess the size of the Multiplayer battles? Isn't it something like 70 people? I guess that's pretty cool, although if it's the size you're into,* there's always MAG...
My point is, this game was way too sepia. ;)
*lame penis joke here.

I keep meaning to pick up R2. I only briefly played the original in the days before I had a PS3 (and before the sequel was out). Should I get that as well, or am I not missing anything story wise? If the story's a dud, I won't bother, especially without a trophy patch.

The first one was actually very good, worth a play through for the story etc... The second...... In my opinion at least, wasn't worth the plastic it was made on, from the crappy story change to the botched weapons to the crappy cod rip off multiplayer, it took what was good from the first and shit on it :(

Joystiq, this isn't a strange question on a survey. They ask it to know how well their marketing attempt for the game thus far is fairing. PS: Please keep adding the woman's head from Dead Space: Extraction to everyone's bodys. The day you did that several months back, I was laughing non-stop ALL DAY!!

@JMC732: I wholehartedly agree. Resistance Fall of Man had an original story, had smart AI, enemy variety, and(in my opinion) beat halo's ass with a stick. Resistance 2 was full of one hit death moments, took away half the game's weapons(and the weapon wheel), took away half the chimera, had mentally disabled meat-grinder AI, and by the time I beat the game I had cussed out my tv in 3 languages. I love Resistance 2's multiplayer, but the rest of it felt like a sloppy, boring mess. I'll buy Resistance 3 if for nothing else the storyline, but they should get the experimental weapons(the hailstorm, sapper), the AI, and the great campaign from Resistance Fall of Man. I wanted to like Resistance 2, but as soon as I beat it, I just wanted to play Resistance Fall of Man.

if this game is coming out, i have no doubt in my mind that i will buy it, the last 2 games did nothing new for the fps franchise but they were really fun games to play.
i kinda hope if it does come that its similar to part 1 instead of part 2 with the co-op and single player elements

My opinion is the correct one.
Now that that's out of the way, I will only be buying R3 if they put some actual effort into the game as they did in R:FoM. R2 was just dripping with copy-paste and trying to be something they weren't. Most of the changes they made to the Chimera were mislead (the 'Heavy' Chimera unit = really dumb, got rid of the Menials, Grayjacks, etc;), the visuals were rather lackluster with R:FoM even being better in most places (lack of detail/textures in R2), and of course the weapon system.
The only plus I would give this game is the online multiplayer. Co-op was fun at first, but got old really fast when the enemies appear the exact same way, in the exact same numbers. As the difficulty rose, it just became more unrealistic in terms of how much damage you deal to the enemies. It eventually became a dull experience.
