EA has released a new trailer for the upcoming VIP Map Pack 2 for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. As the name of the DLC implies, this DLC is for VIP members only. Much like Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network, VIP membership is free for those who bought the game new. Meanwhile, those with used copies on Xbox or PlayStation 3 will have to fork over $15 (1200 on Xbox) for a VIP membership. PC players (lucky dogs) are exempt from all this business and will receive the pack as an update.
It's worth noting that the map pack doesn't actually include any maps. Instead, it unlocks the Conquest Mode in Arica Harbor and Rush Mode in Laguna Presa. Still, it's essentially new gameplay for free, so it's hard to complain. Unless you aren't a VIP, of course. The DLC releases tomorrow, March 30.
This genuinely excites me; however, I'm a bit melancholy for this release, knowing that this will be the last bit of "free" content EA will be providing for BF:BC2.
Cake batter ice cream is really good. But, one of my customers always mails me this ice cream (place out of Ohio) that does a blueberry pie ice cream. I forget the place but it's my favorite ice cream in the world.
Anyway, I think this is good smart honest DRM. I am delighted to see an honest approach. Ubisoft didn't hide what they were doing, and this is good for everyone. It's not the ideal, but I don't ask for perfection. I ask for honesty.
I miss getting blown up by someone I have no chance of fighting back against unless i want to completely deviate from the objective. No wait, I don't miss that at all
PC gamers are lucky because they get free dlc that (usually) cost money on consoles. Also they get the best looking version and mods. Everybody loves mods! don't you? :) also if you happen to game last gen console games never got updated (mostly) so you were stuck with glitches in games with no patch while pc version can get patches online anytime! I like how consoles are getting similar to pc but not too similar.
The point i was getting at is the reason PC players don't need VIP is because a serial key can only be tied to one account. Therefore no PC players will have second hand copies of the game so VIP is pointless. There is no "lucky" involved.
Furthermore the reason PC players sometimes get DLC for free (this was the case with CoD4) Is because there was no way to charge us for the maps, however IWnet sorted that out. L4D DLC valve wanted to keep free, but ultimately microsoft and sony dont let them.
Now onto mods, a fair few games these days dont come with mod tools (BC2 doesn't have them). Which is dissapointing. Borderlands was a recent mod tool dissapointment too, they where promised but then they decided not to release them so they could sell DLC. Also PC games only look better because unlike consoles PC hardware can change over time, however some recent high profile games (such as mass effect 2) don't even have higher res textures its just a console "port".
As for improved weapon damage the PC version actually has less weapon damage than the console version and PC games generally cost less than console games as no fee's are required to develop for PC's.
I think you missed the point i was getting at with my original post Dr Evil. I know why PC games cannot be traded in, this is also the reason the PC version doesn't require the VIP system.
You lost me when you made a connection between Sony and Left 4 Dead. Sony leaves DLC pricing at the discretion of the company while MS dictates only one free DLC per year.
I think this whole VIP thing is a mistake. None of my friends knew about it at release but now they would have to pay $15 for access to 4 extra maps. so now they will probably just stick with MW2.
which I should also add, that those 4 maps l bring it up to a $60 value. With out those 4 maps the MP experience is severely lacking for a $60 game.
all of my friends considering this game are under the impression that the VIP code only comes with the limited edition...that is no longer available at most stores.
I'll spread the word to my friends, but they can't be the only ones holding out on this game because of they are confused about what they are getting or what they are not getting for their money.
your copy says limited edition because it is limited edition, the only thing that comes with that is some unlocks that other people who get normal editions have to unlock later through normal play.
do people even read anything that comes with their games?
it will confuse maybe the most idiotic of the lower 1% of the people who play games.
scroll down, there is a another post from PS-buckshot, stating that he can't buy another limited edition and that he wishes he didn't use his VIP code. Not only that there are a few posts underneath it implying that those people also think that the limited edition only includes the VIP code.
badasssailor, you're not talking about me are you? I'll repeat what I said in the MW2 stimulus post...I cannot wait to give activision my $15 for 5 maps. for the amount of hours I will play them that will be the best $15 I spend all year!
between this and that I can hold off on all other games for a a few months while they drop in price.
Sadly, my PS3 60gb died 2 days ago and it took my limited edition Bad Company 2 disk into heaven with it. How ever i today sold the dead PS3 on ebay, and got a 250gb Slim, but no one has any Limited Editon Battlefields left =/ so i had to get a normal edition one. I wish i didnt use my VIP code. Merrr ¬¬
