There was a great disturbance in the rumor-Force yesterday when VG247 acquired a memo from UK retailer GAME with an alleged upcoming release list for Xbox 360 -- a docket that included a listing for Star Wars: The Old Republic. While the better part of the day was spent hypothesizing about which button would be mapped to "Kill Dude With Lightsaber" (right bumper, of course), BioWare wasted no time in squashing the rumor.
"While we recognize that there are other operating systems and platforms available for games today, our development is specific to the personal computer using the Windows operating system at this time," BioWare's Sean Dahlberg explained. As to why the game was on the Xbox 360 release list, Dahlberg hadn't the foggiest idea, but reassured that the game "should not be on there."

That rumor was squashed faster than the Millennium Falcon doing the Kessel Run.

That rumor was killed faster than the post-Star Wars careers of everyone not named Harrison Ford.

I don't see why not, honestly. I am sure they have thought about it.
FFXIV will be on console, I am sure Blizzard's next MMO will be on console to reach the mass market. With consoles now having massive storage space, the only liability would be a keyboard which we can all purchase for consoles anyway.
Hardcore MMOers don't want it. But I say, why not.

Xbox 360 and cheap massive storage space doesn't go well together:

It's too expensive to play MMO on the 360 (Overpriced 250HDD + Gold subscription + monthly MMO fee).
The PS3 on the other hand (inexpensive 2.5" SATA HDD + no network fee + monthly MMO fee) and in-game keyboard & mouse support.

Asher is correct that FF didn't require Gold. But, the thing is most 360 owners already have Gold to begin with so it's more complicated than just saying don't require Gold. Maybe they give Gold users cheaper access rates than Silver members as an incentive?

Square Enix has neither announced that Final Fantasy XIV uses a microtransaction system nor that they will repeat the $1 per character model of FFXI. I'm following FFXIV news pretty closely, and it looks to be a standard monthly-fee MMO.
Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

You do realize that PC games still are on Microsoft's platform right?

I'm pretty sure that Microsoft has all kinds of developer fees and barriers to entry for an MMO to thrive on the 360. If I remember correctly, this is the reason that Age of Conan never made it to the platform.

Same with champions online. Marvel Universe and Huxley never got off the ground either.

Another problem is that MMOs need to do hotfixes and patches all the time with little notice, and Microsoft requires developers go through a week-long approval process to put their stuff on the 360, which is obviously bad if you need to quickly hotfix a game-breaking bug. Apparently that was one of the hurdles Square Enix had to deal with when they put FFXI on 360.

I second this.
Although I don't know if BioWare would actually make it, since Obsidian did last time.
But I sure as hell hope they get the chance..
..as long as it doesn't interfere with Mass Effect 3. In which case NEVERMIND :]

Yeah you do realize that the game is useless unless you pay the subscription fee right?
MMO's make most of their money off of the subscription fees..
..and without a subscription you aren't playing The Old Republic even if you pirate it :l

Meh, Microsoft completely lacks the ability to work with anyone they can't royally screw. Just look at the consoles they sell. The biggest computer company in the world, and there console doesn't even come with wireless tech. Then they charge 3 times the price of a regular adapter for the console version. A shame I would really love the ability to throw down an MMO on my PS3 or any console for that matter.

I'm in two minds about this, as much as I would love to play an Old Republic game (from Bioware) on my Xbox, I'm not sure I want that game to be an MMO
But then again, I am a social recluse
