You know, it's kind of depressingly easy to win nerds over. Take, for instance, the debut trailer for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensionsjust after the break. With just a few moving images of "noir" Spider-Man in action, our mild curiosity about the game from the company that most recently ported Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to Windows transformed to rubbing $60 on our computer monitors, hoping to coax the game into reality. We really are that easy. Come, drool with us on this Gamespot preview of the game (scripted by She-Hulk/Amazing Spider-Man author Dan Slott).
But wait, there are still two more "dimensions" to be shown, other than "Noir" and the classic setting of "Amazing." We look forward to finding just how much more we can pine for a game from the guys who made Bee Movie: The Game.
You could just buy it used. That's what I'm planning on doing.
Game looks neat so far, but I'm trying not to get to excited given the developer. I played through Web of Shadows 3 times, so this a guaranteed buy for me no matter how the critical reception goes.
Interesting...different...I'm hopeful that after Batman: AA, superhero games will try to raise the standard...somehow tho I have a feeling they're gonna find some way to cock this one up
do you guys realize how stupid you sound? just wondering.... Missing out on a potentially good game just because you don't like a game company. In the end Activision will still be thriving and you guys will miss out on any potentially good games that they pop out. You will be the only losers. Truth hurts...
I have to agree Grey here, I see no purpose in refusing to buy this game simply because it's an Activision game. I understand that Kotick is an ass, but punishing a developer who odds are (if they are like IW) did not agree with Kotick, just seems kind of stupid.
Does anybody else feel like the colors are really bland in the Amazing universe? I feel like they should be, you know, like a brightly-colored comic book. They look pretty sepia to me, but I guess it could be my computer or something.
higher graphical capabilities lead a lot of design choices. This isn't really like a comic book's simple drawings in neon colors. It's nearly photo realistic, requiring a lot of the colors we see in reality. A lot of dim, dark, dirty places, or dull navy and fluorescent places.
Games that try to combine high graphical ability with bright vibrant colors, like Mirror's Edge, wind up being less immersive.
Personally, I think parallax scrollers like the old X-men Arcade make more sense for those who really love comic book stylization.
Uh, say what? The "amazing" part looks cel-shaded* and comicy. I don't think they're going for realistic immersion.
*note that I can't verify this and don't actually know what the difference between "cel-shaded" and something like Borderlands is. My point is, tht part of the game looks like they're trying for a comic book feel.
I didn't watch it. I was just saying that the brown and grey games lately are a result of a higher degree of realism, thanks to powerful consoles and PCs.
If they are cell shaded, then I agree they would be cooled to match the comic book style colors.
But I also like the ultra realistic adaptation of comic books, such as the Batman movies. I think a game with a realistic Spiderman, in a dirty brown city, with blood and wilted webs from last year's fight, wouldn't be such a bad diversion.
Some of that stuff looked pretty stilted, but I do love me some Spider-Man games. Looks like it might earn a rental from me, the highest honor I will any longer bestow upon an Activision game.
They wouldn't be smart enough to do that, right? 2099 & 1602...the two most interesting "alternate dimensions" (or are they part of the same one, just different years on the timeline?) offered by Marvel- that would just be Too perfect.
I'm guessing there will be Ultimate and ...Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.
What the heck, that actually looks slightly nifty. I concur with above, Activision's going to have to wait until I'm dead certain before I buy anything from them though. Nerd's are nifty, Noir is cool, as is a new Spiderman voice actor. ;D
Have you seen the dozen or so stories on Activision and Kotick in recent months? They're currently at a 'Dr Evil' level of "surely they can't get away with this crap" mischief. The corporate hate certainly isn't random.
Though it really makes me want a good Hellboy game more than anything. Noir Spidey's got kind of an Abe Sapien/Lobster Johnson-ish looking costume. Pretty nifty.
