A producer at DICE has apparently stated that the company doesn't want to "ever" charge for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 maps. According to CVG, DICE Senior Producer Patrick Bach told Xbox World 360 magazine, "We don't ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together."
Joystiq contacted DICE to confirm the quote and was told by a representative, "Unless they aren't standard maps we won't charge and there aren't any in the plan that would cost."
Unfortunately, Electronic Arts – publisher of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and ultimate decision-maker in this situation – wasn't willing to go that far, telling us, "We can't comment on the future. But we'll have more details on our DLC plans shortly." And we'll share those plans with you, dear reader. Shortly.

1) I would love to see nothing but free content.
2) I would also be willing to pay for the content.
Hi, my name is Spike... and I'm an addict.

HI, SPIKE!
I understand my brother. You just keep telling yourself, "I'll just play this last game and I'm done," then you think "Well since we attacked first I have to help my teammates defend, I mean it's only fair, so I'll stop after this map." Then Arica Harbour or Port Valdez shows up as the next map and you know you'll never be able to resist.
Such is the life of the Bad Company junkie.

Well we can't forget MS and Sony who both charge fees for items to be posted on their marketplace. That's half the reason why PC users get content console gamers have to buy, for free.
It'll come down to MS, Sony and EA talking. And right now it'll be in EA's best interest to keep BFBC2 fresh to steal Modern Warfares thunder as a franchise. So here's to hoping EA does the right thing...

You would make a horrible negotiator..
Never let the person know how much you are REALLY willing to pay... and in this case, never let them know that you are willing to pay at all
Love the game BTW

Not like EA is surfing to see that we'll pay or not.

Well I am willing to support paid DLC assuming the price and quality is worthwhile. I'm not the type to expect everything for free, that's really what I am getting at.

So, um, was it EA who wanted to charge for guns in the original Bad Company, then? Sounds like good business to me...

Michael Jackson doesn't want DICE to charge for Battlefield BC2 maps, but would still buy them even if EA disagrees.

. . . I agree, and that is fine by me. THIS is why I have always bought Battlefield games, because you really get your money's worth unlike some games *cough* Modern Warfare 2 *cough*. . . . . . . . . . . . I mean, Modern Warfare 2.

Considering PC gamers are getting them for free currently. Also considering they were packed in and just had to be unlocked on the PC not downloaded/installed.
This leads me to believe they just like to gouge people on the consoles.

another case of misinformation.
PC and console users are all getting the maps for free, as long as they bought the game BRAND NEW, not on release, but at any time, as long as it is a new copy.
Now, obviously all PC gamers will get it for free, since all PC copies are new copies.
Not all copies for the console will be new, since alot of people buy them used, hence, the maps will not be free.

Still waiting on a proper followup to Battlefield 2. Bad Company is really its own series.
My brother and I used to play the hell out of BF2. Bought all the map packs, bought joysticks to fly with, etc. He lives about 4 states away and it was good times to call him up and jump in a game together. For some reason, it's just not the same on a console.

Fine then by that logic Quake is older.... my point is HL has been around a long time, and of course so has Doom and Quake. But considering the number of continuous game releases you can at least easily say BF is one of the longest if not the longest. Let's just hope BC2 receives more and better support than BC1 did and it'll remain great.

what about Battlefield 2142? i thought that was the followup to BF2. BF2 was an awesome game though, my roommate was hooked in it for like 3 years.

I dont mind paying for maps but EA make sure you make the maps worth their value. Either make them cheap or give more bang for the buck.
Activision disappointed me with the poor choice with there first DLC. 3 new maps and 2 old ones that have nothing improved graphically or layout.

DUH it can only be used on one account.
God forbid you can't give all of your friends new maps.
And if you bring up that thing with your brother again i'll bitch slap you across the screen.
You can easily just make separate soldiers on the same account and both have access to the maps.
Different soldiers have separate friends list from what i can tell, as well as different stats.
If you and your brother happen to play at the same time on different consoles, you should have just purchased 2 new games anyways.
