The non-combat world still looks pretty interesting, but a little action would have gone a long way. For instance, you know who could have helped slice up those onions? Odin. Just get yourself a pile of Sweet Vidalias, pull a quick Zantetsuken, and then boom -- you got yourself a delicious Awesome Blossom™.
Final Fantasy XIV trailer shows off mundane aspects of Eorzean life
47
Hey, life in Final Fantasy XIV's lush, dangerous world of Eorzea isn't all boss battles and summons, you know? Sometimes, folks need to slow their roll, and go for a stroll in the city. Maybe slice up a few onions. Hit up the bakery for some fresh-baked goods. Is it terribly exciting stuff? Not particularly -- but it's the subject of the game's latest trailer, which we've posted after the jump.

Man, I want to play this game so bad. I really hope they figure out a way to bring it to 360. It's that, or finally break down for a PS3.

I know! I am just so poor right now to go purchase a new system. I want a PS3 to bad. I'd then have a 360, Wii, PS3, and DS. All I need to keep my gaming life happy. I am missing way too many amazing titles in PS3!

I am on my work's computer. Plus my PC at home isn't upgraded enough to run FF14. It would cost me more to upgrade my PC to playability than to just buy a PS3.

I would if I had the money. I promised the wife a rowing machine first. At least when I do buy one, I'll have like a ton of awesome games to play.

Yes! A rowing machine. Can you believe it? The sacrifices I must make.

Hmm you could buy a PS3 and then buy a game that intensively uses the sixaxis and tell your wife to just over-emphasise the movements. It's sort of like rowing, but not.
But you get a PS3, so.... win?
Also, FF14 will be released on Xbox360, it's just a timed release so you may have to wait for a year or so before it comes out. If you're patient enough for a PS3, I'm sure an extra year.. wouldn't.. be terrible....... maybe.

Speaking from my experience with FFXI, I'm sure XIV will be much more fun if you get in on ground-level when everyone's still newbies and you dont have people with a full year's worth of playtime over you monopolizing things.

Helpful Tip:
When cutting onions, chew gum. It will not make you tear up.

Looks like this quest needs me to chop onions? My first thought were Homer's last two lines...
(Bart) Uh, yeah, I'd like to speak to a Mr. Tabooger, first name Ollie
(Homer) (excited) Ooh, Bart, my first prank call! What do I do?
(Bart) Just ask if anyone knows Ollie Tabooger
(Homer) I don't get it
(Bart) Yell out "I'll eat a booger"
(Homer) What's the gag?

I heard on History Channel that something in onions mixes with the water in your eyes to form a weak corrosive acid. You shed tears just to get the acid out of your system. You learn something new every day.

The game looks great, and I did enjoy XI.
The main thing I really want to know is, how much will they be charging for the monthly fee?

WTF does that even mean?? That doesn't even make sense. You are talking about completely different games. You know what similarity they have? "Final Fantasy" in the title.
Please just go download FFVII or something and play it there (i did, thanks PSN)

Graphics look sub-par, much less detailed the Aion, and most of us know how Aion turned out..... it's gonna be all about the gameplay. Here's hoping that is good :)

Hope you know its in Alpha, with turned down graphics. Pretty sure it'll look better then that.
Plus from what I saw, still has some frame rate problems even with turned down graphics

Does anyone else wish they'd just spend the resources on a single player FF game? I'm not paying a bill to play a damn video game.

You have FF XIII don't you and Versus XIII on the way. It's not like they have stopped making single player games. Some people do actually want this game.

It would be neat if you could learn cooking as a skill, and then open your own business and hire NPCs and train them to run it for you.
Or weapon-making.
It'd be up to you to harvest vegetables or look for good minerals to mine.
By harvesting and mining, I mean, kill and loot.
Kinda like Star Wars Galaxies, but really, not really!
Seriously if they can make a viable non-combat role interesting I'd pay for it.
Kinda like SWG.
I miss that game.

Good video, I'm looking forward to buy a PS3 just for that... or wait a 360 version... I'll wait for an official "360 porting" news.

I loved FFXI in spite of its many (many, many shortcomings) and played it for a really long time. For those of you wary of FFXIV repeating the mistakes of XI, you should know that in the past couple of years FFXI has changed in a lot of ways that make it a more user-friendly game. Most people don't know this because they left when things were still really rough in Vana'diel. (And not that I necessarily blame them).
But know this:
Not only has Square Enix learned a lot of lessons about making MMOs, they've already implemented that learning in a game they're still supporting. For instance, in XI, you can solo all the way up, if you like. No more waiting hours for groups. I'm quite sure XIV will carry this on.
I, for one, can't wait for Final Fantasy XIV!

One of the biggest problems with FFXI was that it was designed from the onset to be party-oriented. So, they created the enemies with stats and abilities that would still give a full party (with a dedicated healer and tank) some degree of challenge. Meaning that, when soloing, these enemies were usually drastically stronger than a player of the same level, and the fairly horrible experience system meant that if you were not grinding in a well-built party, you were getting a horribly paltry sum of experience for the time you would put into it. This game appears to be being designed to be much more solo-friendly, and as such, I don't think we'll see any of FFXI's grinding problems make a comeback. Sure, it's an MMO, so there will probably be some grinding, but it probably wont take 2 hours of waiting around to find 5 other people to grind with just to get out to your spot and have two people drop out.
