"A loooong time. We started in September 2009 with the first rough prototype."

Is that a typo? Six months isn't that long at all, especially considering it was they're first shot at making a game and it was done between just two people. Granted, they didn't specify how much time it took them to fabricate that first prototype.

Anywho, as usual, a good read. I've loved every Indie Pitch article so far, keep it up.

Also, I've heard a lot of great things about the game, and it sounds like something that would be right up my ally. I'll have to download it soon.

Doh... yeah that was a typo. Sep 2008 was my first SVN check in on Colony Defense.

I can officially say the market is COMPLETELY saturated on tower defense games, and zombie games. Hell, theres even a tower defense game involving zombies. If your company is in the process of developing yet another derivative of one of these genres..........stop?

We're also pretty saturated on RPGs, FPSs, and puzzle games. And racing games. Oh, and platformers have pretty much run their course. And enough with the games set in Sci-fi worlds... and Tolkein-style fantasy. Blegh. If I see even one more game like that, I swear I'll give up on gaming for good. Everything you can possibly do with these things has been done before, why can't we try something new?

(please note that I am being sarcastic)

Really, I couldn't decipher your sarcasm through that thick layer of wit.

And yeah I bet you are totally right. I bet this game will sell millions of copies in a market that already is inundated in tower defense games. You know, because tower defense games are all so varied in their application and execution, unlike all those other genres you just listed.

----Do you HONESTLY believe that? I mean, the lackluster replies on this post should be some indicator...

What I'm trying to get across here is, people shouldn't stop making these games any more than they should stop making FPS games. I mean, we just saw the latest Call of Duty sell millions despite there being plenty of good FPS games already out there. Not to mention that Tower defense still might have a lot of room to grow, as it's a relatively new genre.

I just realized that this game is a shameless rip-off of Star Defense for the iPhone. Wow.

When we started this game, there was no such thing as Star Defense. When it was eventually announced, I almost quite development. However, with the work we already had into to it, we decided to keep on and try to finish it. While they both take place on a spherical planet, if you've played both, the similarity in game play really stops there.
