Sure, you're probably excited to download the Lost Planet 2 demo so you can actually play the game, but did you know it will also help a good cause? Capcom has announced a new program that will see the company donate $20,000 to Music for Relief -- a non-profit organization "dedicated to providing aid to victims of natural disasters and the prevention of such disasters" -- if one million players download the Lost Planet 2 demo. If a total of 1.5 million download the demo, Capcom will donate an additional $5,000 for a total of $25,000.
In addition, Capcom will be hosting a pre-launch Lost Planet 2 party and "celebrity" tournament on May 6 in Los Angeles. Gamers will be able to sign up to attend the event -- on a first come, first serve basis -- on Capcom-Unity later this month. To win a chance to play in the tournament, however, players will have to submit tips for playing the multiplayer demo. Four winners will be chosen by Capcom to attend the tournament. The winners of the tournament will get to choose which Music for Relief cause will receive the money Capcom. Full details on the contest can be found right here.
So, get crackin' and grab your early access demo redemption code. It just might do someone some good.

Lost Planet 2 multiplayer is terrible, I just played it today and they can't even get the controls right. Co-op is still a blast though.

Love the controls personally, hate the the RE4 camera angle from Colonies is standard now. Thankfully you can change most everything to match the original layout, including the camera.
My only real complain is that weapons on the map are impossible to see. They're just laying there blended with the environment, I went through three matches before finally finding one (they used to be rotating slightly above the ground with a bright yellow border surrounding them). Which also ties into another small complaint, the character customization / load out is useless, and a disservice to the variety of the original two games.

Good for them.
One unusual thing about the demo (besides the grenades) after playing a bit is the lack of music being played. Thank god Nasum and its mach 5 grindcore intensity which sounds awesome in the demo.

Reading the headline, I expected some kind of "donate $2 to play the demo."
This is much better. Not really interested in the MP demo, but still cool.

Let's just hope that this isn't an April Fools joke. That will just be evil if it was.

great idea. too bad it has been impossible for me to get a code. the first day the site was never working. i try first thing after work the next day and sign all up for everything only to find out they are out of 360 codes. next day i find out they are releasing more and it lets you choose to get a 360 code. i try first thing after work and it gives me an error because they are out of codes again. how frustrating.

Well, you can always try ebay...that's how I got my code. I paid like 6 bucks...I see the $6 as a way to see if the game will be worth it.
I'm sure the demo will be out for everyone eventually but I'm sure i will get $6 dollars worth of fun out of it.

Can I still download the demo for the 360, even though it says the codes have been exhausted? Been trying with that code business for a while now, and it's always run out. My PS3 is fried so no chance of me getting it for that.

Kind of Capcom to do this, but the whole early access demo was a disaster with a number of people reporting error messages stated the code had been used already, which led a number of people believing their system was generating the same code to a bunch of people, once it was redeemed by the original holder of the code, it made it invalid for the others who got it. Personally I felt the multiplayer aspect of LP2 was awful. Virtually impossible to get a kill, quite difficult to tell what team you were on, the whole "glide" effect when soldiers run is quite aggravating too. Its as if they are floating above the ground when they move. For those who didn't get a demo code, you aren't missing anything wait until the demo goes wide for everyone in about three weeks.

It's virtually impossible to get a kill because it's so damn hard to find any weapons. The Machine Gun was only useful in the original because it hampered movement, that you'll be carrying it around for the majority of the match in the demo, it makes for some seriously awkward small scale battles (especially when a VS shows up).
They need to fix this before release, otherwise I can't see myself taking to it like I did the first two games - which are still my favourite online multiplayer games. Capcom does an excellent job at segregating their community, take one or two strides forward that no one appreciate enough, and then falling behind 20 paces and removing features and functionality while avoiding improving those areas that would have gone a long way to better the game. Colonies was the same way, with a few worthwhile additions that went unnoticed only to have 90% of the core players going back to the original.

Nice that they are giving to charity and all.. but, get back to me when that applies to the PUBLIC DEMO where the only thing to gain for Capcom is 'exposure' of said demo (and possible get apathetic people into trying it and maybe buying the full game when it's released).. that's fine.
However 'signing up' on Capcom's site is essentially giving them valuable emails/marketing data which is worth way more than what they are giving to charity. Essentially nothing is ever 'for the good of it' and everything has a reason. Here the reason is to get gullible people to give Capcom their email addy for future spamming, wait until the public demo arrives freaky fanatics!
The mailing list is EVERYTHING these days.
