Japanese Lost Planet 2 Xbox bundle includes USB drive

Microsoft is putting forth its best effort in the hope that Japanese consumers who want to play Lost Planet 2 won't just buy it for the PS3, which they already own. The company has announced a Lost Planet 2 Xbox 360 bundle, to be released May 20 for ¥24,800 ($265) in Japan.

The set includes a 60GB Xbox 360 with a D-connector HD cable, the game and a headset. It'll also include bonus Lost Planet content -- on a 2GB USB stick; taking advantage of the new Dashboard update that allows such drives to be used as 360 storage devices! This bonus seems destined to become a standard for special-edition Xbox 360 bundles.

this looks like a "Let's bundle together all the excess crap we have laying around to get rid of it" bundle

Can't they start making good bundles? Ones that might actually be worth picking up? The only one worth getting so far was the MW2 bundle. Now it's just an xbox, game, and something extra. In this case, a thumb drive. Japan won't fall for this, despite loving Lost Planet.

ok, what is a "good bundle" if not a good game and a few extra goodies?

i hated lost planet so this doesnt do anything for me personally, but for $265? this is a really good bundle.

in fact i'd say MS is the best at bundles.

Like I said, the MW2 bundle was good. You had variation of your console. Yes it costs $265 converted from yen, but if it hit the states it would be much higher priced. These bundles are just more and more SKUs for MS to try and grasp as much money as they can. A 2 GB thumb drive incentive isn't much to get people to buy a whole new console.

Elite Holiday Bundles=Bad. No variation or anything to make them special
Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle=Good. Unique gunmetal coloring, special features
Uncharted bundle=Bad. No distinct system.
Resident Evil 5 bundle=Good. Distinct system and controller.

I liked the Drake's Uncharted Bundle because it came with a game, a large HDD and the Dual-Shock 3 which at the time was still fairly new.. Plus I liked the standard look of compared to the special edition MGS4 one. I think the PS3's design/color was already perfect so no need to reinvent the wheel.

The Xbox360 on the other hand I still don't understand why MS first released it in White. I agree the MW2 was the Xbox 360 because it came with a game that everyone wanted. A case design that I still feel is the best and a larger HDD.

I like different SKU's but, with PS3 I don't think needs them as much as Xbox360 because I don't think anyone really likes the standard "white" Xbox360 and that's what makes the Elites and other editions of Xbox360 sell so well. If the Xbox360 was already black I don't think many people would opt out to buying another Xbox360...

I dont think it being unique is really all that impressive. several bundles come with faceplates, several come with their own color, several come with some kind of DLC, and a few come with something a little off (like the USB stick)

But when it comes down to it what really matters is games. if they toss in a free game im happy because i can at least sell it or traded it if i dont like it. and right now you can get some pretty decent games with bundles, some better than others. there is GOWIII on one side, and Forza 3 + ODST on the other, both killer deals for your new system.

who cares if both of the systems look look like ever other version out there. + depending on the store you can also score an extra controller. all for the cost of what would often cost you the same price. not bad if you ask me.

Some of those extras you talk of are retailer specials, nothing to do with bundles. If it's a bundle, it's going to come with a game no matter what. Those games are not "free". They are included in the price. If you are going to bring out a new SKU, give more than a thumb drive, or stupid face plate. A different color system is entirely worth it. I'd rather have a colored/modded xbox than a thumb drive.

Might be just me Skeet, and although I went Elite when they came out, when I went over to my brothers, his was actually white, unlike the one I started with, which I'm sure was an off white, like recycled paper.. something I noticed too with my Forza Elite, it's blacker than my original elite..
Personally I think there's no need for the Arcade sku anymore (or why there was one in the first place)
As for the PS3, they has that see through thing going on on the Phats, and my mate wanted one of the white ones being an apple fanboy.. and now the slims just look black..
The Wii is probably a top example on this one, before launch, there was pictures of 6 different colours, did any actually want a white one? I'd of had a black one as first choice, I would have took red or green as a second choice..

360 FFXIII bundles in the west is a bit more understandable, since that series is so heavily associated with Playstation. but this? i dunno. seems kinda pointless to release a bundle to a game that's also coming to "the other system" that just so happens to have three-times the install base.

2gb? My ass could hold more than 2gb.

But in order to use that USB drive as storage for the 360, they would have to format it and lose all their bonus content. I can imagine the support calls now.

60gb HDD and 2gb Flash Drive are more than most people will need.

People don't need an Xbox 360, either. But if Microsoft wants them to buy this bundle, they should have sweetened the deal.

I dunno about you guys, but I love these flash drives bundled in with limited edition games and consoles. You can never have to many flash drives... work always gets crazy with so many game builds and consoles and people working at the same time on one project that it gets hard to find discs or portable media on the fly for dumps, and yes of course we have network drives but that isn't suitable for everything, plus hundreds of people moving dumps through the network all at once = serious stability issues. Glad I have work off today.

They should start doing games on the new 16gb USB things. Remember Microsoft 16gb means bigger games.

Anyone who says people won't buy this in Japan have never played the game.

The Japanese love this game.

The Japanese have PS3's. They don't need the inferior 360 port.

DLC and stuff could already come on USB sticks before. Some if it you could download from the net and burn to CD also.

This update allows you to put savegames on USB sticks.

It's a great deal, however it doesn't change the fact that Japanese consumers are more intelligent and still won't buy hardware that is poorly manufactured (unlike US consumers).

They wouldn't buy the bundle if it was $100. Nice try though, MS.

Lost Planet wasn't on the PS3 for a long, long time after it was on the XBox.

Lost Planet was huge in Japan for the Xbox. THAT is why this bundle is being released there.
