European Nintendo downloads: Super Mario Kart, Chronos Twins DX

We don't even have to try to explain the significance of today's Virtual Console game. It's Super Mario Kart. Well, okay, for our younger audience members: Super Mario Kart is like Mario Kart Wii, but older. Europe's been on a roll recently, first with the Hanabi Festival granting Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and others, and now Super Mario Kart!

DSiWare has four games this week, including the remake of the Amiga Oscar in Movieland and Puzzle to Go Diddl, a jigsaw puzzle game whose title we're doing our very best not to giggle about.

Super Mario Kart (SNES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)

Chronos Twins DX (WiiWare, 1 player, 700 Wii Points)
AiRace: Tunnel (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)

So does this Chronos Twins game have something to do with Chrono Trigger for the DS?

No. And if you're from UK/Europe, I'm sorry, but Square didn't see fit to release the actual Chrono Trigger 'sequel' over there yet either - Chrono Cross, for PSOne. Pray for a PSP/DS port, it's an excellent game on its own right, just doesn't do a very good job of tying up the one or two plot points Chrono Trigger didn't seal up (though the story is quite good otherwise).

General DS question: Can any DS model play virtual console games? I haven't owned Nintendo anything in about a decade or so.

I don't think ANY DS plays any of your VC games. Unlike PSN where you can buy a title and play it on your PS3 and PSP - Nintendo is lagging behind in both forward thinking for their handhelds and console integration.

Maybe the next handheld will link your account to all devices and allow you to play Ocarina of Time on a handheld while making only one purchase for the title through the N store.
