Hey Nintendo, these projects wouldn't be all over the internet IF YOU WOULD JUST DO IT YOURSELVES. People want it, industrious people will do it themselves when faced with "We don't want to." And they'll pay for it. Please?

I've never actually thought about a pokemon MMO in it's barely 16-bit GBA style. The simplicity is brilliant.

It's due to things like this that the biggest sites in the Pokémon fandom have been aggressive in *not* supporting such fan projects. It's one thing to make a Pokémon fan game in an genre that isn't competing with the main series games, but any Pokémon RPG is doomed to fail. This is far from the first to be send a C&D (that was POL back in 2000!), and we're sure it won't be the last, if only because people still continue to refuse to listen and take heed of the history in the fandom.

But the reason for two versions being released was to force us to trade and battle (also to make money). So wouldn't an MMO help reach that original goal set out by them?

Cool idea, cool look, but that's some pretty epic copyright infringement. It'd be one thing if they at least made some new maps like all the homebrew community who already does that for the handheld games, but they straight ripped most of this stuff from the original games. As much as I'd like to see fanmade stuff like this exist, it's Nintendo's right to shut this thing down unfortunately.

As for a real Pokemon MMO? It could work but I think you'd need a brand new region that was much more open and had a lot more space to it. I don't think you could use Kanto or Jhoto or Hoenn or anything like that. They're made for a single player and a bunch of NPCs, not hundreds if not thousands of players.

Fan projects are great an all, but honestly.

If you have the skills to make it, why not just create an original title?

As somebody involved a pokemon fangame I would just reconfigure the game to be non-pokemon, although in our case it would be easier cause we aren't using any Nintendo pokemon so it would just be a matter of removing the few pieces of nintendo sprites left and thinking up a new word for pokemon.

Truth be told Nintendo afraid of Pokénet Valiant Venonat with his arrival he was going to match the Nintendo games, with many new features, Nintendo is afraid of losing customers, but with this attitude, can make a difference will more lose 7 thousand customers or more, and I see a big difference between Nintendo and Pokénet, I'm more POKÉNET, because to you train a Pokemon in Nintendo games, act patience, then this is personal Nintendo has Pokénet of FEAR.

Not like 7 thousand is a Drop of the Hat to Nintendo.
Not like these things are doing anything special. Other than Disasimabing a GBA game for the maps and what not.

Truth be told is what more than likely got there C/D in the First place.
Glad to hear you guys are going to try and make an Origonal game though.

We dissassembled nothing. We had to recreate the maps from scratch, coded in an xml-like format.

The 7000 number is also a misquote. We had 7000 active players during march, We had over 50,000 accounts (Though I'll be the first to admit that over 25% of those are duplicate accounts from people trying to get all the starters). We had over 600 different players log in daily.

Maybe they need to get in touch with the NeoPets people. Hard though it may be to swallow, it could probably ake money instead of costing money, be attached to a semi-desirable license, and with -pet pets- possibly has a decent small animal combat environment readily available.

That, and the whole concept that items could be improved to the point that you'd end up with a better game than the progenitor anyhow, as I don't seem to recall any equipment type items on pokemon that could be utilized in battles.

Not really surprising. I knew Nintendo would do this, because they are like that. They just can't let non-profit fan games (and other stuff) slide, can they?

I also had translate a lotta stuff to Spanish for it, too...

I say, devs shouldn't give up on it. Not on the code, atleast. Either change the graphics keeping the same code, or have it hosted in another country which copyright laws would allow this kind of stuff.

Giving up entirely doesn't really seem like a good idea to me. Just saying.

What Nintendo did was awful ! I am sure the only reason they did it was that so they can release the exact same game and charge users for it and have the monopoly of this type of MMO.

I am disgusted by this !

Copyrighted or not, you didn't charged users !
I'd even go as far as classifying this game as fan-art, you don't see C&D letters flying around on DeviantArt ! You see other stuff, but that another matter...

They were extremely justified in enforcing a c&d. Anyone who can't see that is blind to the law. And taking the domain name isn't a big deal, just get a new one, like pokedee.org or something. I don't understand why they would take it, but sometimes you deal with it.

Nintendo must protect their trademarks. This was not a dick move or meanspirited. They have constantly displayed that they do not want fans to create these games, yet you continue to. I don't understand it.

You seem like pretty talented programmers for a homebrew team. I would encourage an original project. :)

And why do some people expect a Ninty representative to show up on this comment board?

Again on the pokémon MMO subject... just think of how much money nintendo would make by charging people to transfer their pokemons to the online game.

I think they would swallow Earth or something.

They probably just wanted your domain for something.

There are loads of working MMOs out there. Some have been out for years. It doesn't make sense that they shut you down just because it is a Pokemon MMO. Maybe you did something illegal like talk about ROMs, or something?

Nintendo seriously needs to stop shutting down fan games and make their own MMO. They can obviously see there is a great demand for one. Heck, people want it so much, they take matters into their own hands, and create it themselves.

Ahh.. I remember signing up way back in '08...

Was a mod and Dev for a bit when the whole PG/POR Argument happened...

Stayed a mod before i quit and just never signed in for a few months.

...Now i find its all gone... Sad.

When a Company Attacks the Fans, then the Company is Dead.

Nintendo really cant get much more negative heat, Consoles are getting negative hype, Games are getting worse.... now they get rid of one of the largest fan projects dedicated to one of there highest Grossing Games.

So... Fans are gonna hate Nintendo for this shit.

Like Everything else though, people will get over it...

Loved you PG. ='(

... What exactly are you talking about?

Nintendo won't lose more than a few fans off of this incident. You truly believe they've lost their ENTIRE fanbase?

The Wii and DS are insanely popular. Just because a few neckbeards on the Internet are mad doesn't mean it's all negative hype.

Games are getting worse? Are you kidding me? On Pokemon alone, the franchise has only seen improvements. There other games still receive the largest praise ever (Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash bros Brawl ring any bells?)

Judging just from here, people are still fans. Oh wow, a facebook group. That's all I see hating Nintendo now. That'll make a HUGE difference, won't it?

There's no good business reason for Nintendo to have not yet released a Pokemon MMO. There's clearly still high demand for many things relating to the property. The Wii could pull off support for this easily, if only they (Nintendo) would jump on the opportunity. Nintendo needs to make a forward move with the evolution of the game (especially the DS/portable releases) franchise, rather than re-releasing previously developed games, xeroxing game-play from title to title and allowing the visuals to stagnate within graphics that mostly belong to the days of the Gameboy Color. Pokemon games have basically become :

* add a region or reuse an old one

* maybe add a few Pokemon

* slap a new title on a game experience that really hasn't grown past its original days

I like Pokemon, but tire of Nintendo's laziness with it development.

they probably aren't concerned with money. like at all. they say they want the physical act of meeting with friends to stay, which i guess i can understand them wanting people to get outside. but if they want to continue cartridge sells, why not make the mmo, then every time there's a new game, you can only open this new area/pokemon by buying the cartridge. then via wifi and an included thumb drive or something, maybe in the shape of a pokedex, they make the mmo character you use and the character in the new game, transferable and that way the mmo users can take their pokemon and items on the go for solo gameplay or with physical friends. this would encourage both the meeting of new friends online, and the playing with old friends in real life. best of both worlds, no?

I doubt that they'll ever make one, because think about it, doesn't nintendo make CONSOLES? If they made an MMO for the PC then no one would want to buy the consoles, well, except for all the other games, but a lot of people only buy the consoles for pkmn, I bought a DSLite just for pokemon D/P, and if they had made an MMO before that, I probably wouldn't be buying consoles anymore, because I could just get on my laptop anywhere I wanted, and played the pknn MMO. You get what I'm saying?
