So sell it. What the hell's holding you back? It's not like anyone will miss your presence on the PSN at all.

Starter pack to cost "less than $100" as quoted on many sites (read $99.99) and that's 1 controller, I believe camera and game... but some games need 2 controlers, and that's not counting the option nunchuck like micro controller... basically you need a PS3 (costs a lot more than Wii) and a starter pack (about $100) and another controller ($40 minimum realistically) to really get starter... for single player... that's a LOT, especially if you, like everyone and especially their grand ma, have access to a Wii... the controllers will cost, atleast as much as a Wii remote, plus you need a camera, and probably 2 or more controllers and optionally some nunchucks... and that's assuming you have the PS3 to start.

"Hardcore" gamers may have been likely to adopt the "move" when it was still called Arc and with the prototype build I got to play around with. This giant glowing ball and awkward look really turn me off. The Wii manages just fine because the controller is simplistic and natural to hold.

No difference between it being called move to arc.. Gem would have been shit, but move is perfectly fine.. I doubt anyone would reject the controller because of its name, unless they have serious mental issues.

What did the early prototype you tested look like ?

All prototypes I have seen have had the ball on the top..

The dev kits we used looked nothing like the eyesore they are now, they looked dynamic elegant and rich like all other sony products. The name suited it well. Now it looks like a babys first karoke mic. I don't care for sony but the have good tastes in product design. The product may not be great but looks great atleast. I doubt the vast majority of PS3 owners would be the type to purchase the move just based on EA software numbers.

who cares if the Move is Wii-ish? the thing the Wii doesn't have is good games. yeah RE4, it's great, but who's to say it won't now come out for ps3? anyway, third party support for ps3 is leaps and bounds ahead of the Wii. and that's all that matters boys and girls, the games. rip off this, rip off that, HD Wii. who cares as long as it's fun? and it HAS to be more fun than the Wii.

I've never understood this claim. I have both a Wii and a PS3. I have a very large stack of Wii games, all of which I absolutely love. I have a much smaller stack of PS3 games and maybe a list twice as long as the stack of games I want but can't afford right now. In total, all of the Wii games I have/want is probably about the same size as all of the PS3 games I have/want. If you can't find good games on the Wii you're not looking hard enough.

PS3 has exponentially more games because of all the multiplats. The Wii has literally a handful of good multiplats and the only stuff that's any good is first party, and it's all very traditional Ninty.

It is interesting how Sony doesn't seem to really understand Natal. I don't think they really want to.

Does anyone understand Natal? We get it, its an upgraded eyetoy. Watch the newest Engadget show with Move and you'll see Sony engineers discussing their work with 3-D camera technology and why its not suitable for most gaming applications. They understand it b/c they researched it (3DV in fact) and know full well its limitations. Sony is the godfather of camera based gaming technology so they certainly have an understanding on Natal.

you buying an ipad today? lol just messing with you based on all your anti apple rants at engadget.

Dear sony
if your new knock off motion controls require me to get up and move around while trying to relax and play video games...then no....no it will not gain my attention. If i wanted waggling while playing i would have bought a wii...but i didnt...i bought a ps3....and now i dont know where im going to go from here

Dear Jack Spicer
Why to to tie in pointless bashing around an impossible to prove point. Please provide me with proof that sonys R&D teams were working on motion controls before nintendos R&D teams. Please provide me with proof that sony took said motion controls to the gaming world and took it by storm..thus becoming the default provider of motion controls among all consumers minds.

As for what i said, I currently fall under the term "hardcore gamer" that the industry likes to through around these days. And while under that baseless title i do not now nor ever want to use motion controls to play games, and everyone i know and game with does not either, thats why we all bought the same console......and we all play the same games that seem to completely lack motion controls with no public outcry to include them in.

Also while you seem to think this is something you can just "Avoid" may i please direct your attention to the next socom game in development.....thank you very much

@Provost

Go watch the most recent engadget show. Sony made motion gaming like Wii in the early PS2 era. Watch the video, they also played with 3-D camera technology (Natal) about 9 years ago.

I'm a hardcore gamer and I'm much more into the Wii. Natal is more attractive too. Move is nothing more than a shameless Wii ripoff that belongs in Walgreens.

I don't understand those who bash Sony for coming out with a higher-precision version of the Wii-controller, yet claim that Natal is revolutionary, when its nothing but a higher-precision Playstation Eye....

Because Natal isn't a higher precision PS Eye. I don't understand why Sony fanboys don't read any articles on natal to find out what it's actually supposed to do.

I never said they did not have the technology, I am saying that they did not consider using it until Nintendo made it popular, thus they jumped on the band wagon.

Check the specs of what they both actually do. Natal is not just a web cam with some recognition software behind it and a microphone glued to the top like the EyeToy. If it was Sony would have had Natal-esq prototypes on the PS2.

That said it also hasn't been proven yet. Input lag is a real possibility and that would make it damn near useless for anything serious, which means just about anything a gamer is interested in other than turn based strategy and RPGs, or goofy alternative input methods to fool around with.

I disagree entirely.

Sword fighting on Resort has been spot on for me and it got really fun in competition with AI (I can only get up to level 1134 or something 'cause they get so good)

Just messing around with the practice slicing of objects and seeing the accuracy would be the next "analog stick" revolution in gaming (so to speak) in my opinion if the game just didn't lack depth.

Natal is so sweet because its based off of the cutting edge concept tech in microsofts house of the future. And it makes you feel like you're in a scifi movie. Not only that but it works in conjunction with the 360 controller. Natal is gonna rain supreme in arcade style games. Remember arcade shooters? I played a Natal tech demo where I held my hand like a gun and stood sideways, that had me in cover, I steped forward slightly so my chest was facing the camera and my character popped out of cover. I pulled my hands back like I was firing a pistol and it registered on screen. Then to reload I moved my hands held like a gun to the far left or right and shook my hands and that triggered ammo reload. Does this sound familiar to those epic light gun and cover paddle arcade shooters you played?

Aiming your gun works just as it would in a light gun or wii game. Natal can read dynamic 3d movements at each joint and determine where you are in space and where you are aiming.

She should become the Natal spokesperson @e3 when they unveil the natal properly and they stick the game anticrawl is talking about she needs to be the one they hire to play it in front of the audience..

HAHA! Great video, and while there was some serious "pew pew pew" action going on it is honestly a really fun device. But nah the demo I had fooled around with was neat, just like a classic Time Crisis arcade shooter. No cover peddle, quarters or light-gun required though.

Honestly though in response to your cynicism I hope both devices do great because that means more money for me and my stock value increasing. Personally though Natal is far more impressive because it can sense depth and make calculations based on the location in space where each joint of your body is. Not only that but it is expanding on the current controller without having to replace it like the Arc.. or Move or whatever Sony is calling it now. Don't have a remote? Lazy in bed? Just wave your hand over at your console and it'll boot up and you can gesture navigate with your hands over to Netflix to watch a movie right before bed. I just don't see how anyone isn't excited about that. Having to work on all 3 consoles I really don't wanna have to deal with another physical input system. We have controllers piling up everywhere and I don't think I can handle this whole Move nonsense at work, especially the distracting bulb.
