Exactly! 10 million users and a user-base of 34 million waiting to hop-on.

So does this mean WoW is losing its crown? it's been almost 2 years since they announced their 11.5 million, they must of lost quite a few players since then without a new expansion pack.

Not even close. No one has even near their subscriber base. Even with just 6 million, they would still have more than pretty much everyone.

No I meant, Free Realms has 10million players, WoW had 11.5. They are both MMOs, just because one uses a different payment plan doesn't mean they arent in the same league.

Most future MMO devs are saying the subscription based MMO is over and will use microtransactions like Free Realms (SW:toR is even looking into it).

No, they have 10 million -accounts. As I commented earlier, how many of those accounts are actually active daily? I guarantee it is less than half. And yes, it does mean they are in a different league because EVERY wow player MUST pay 15$ a month. Free to play but in game stores are supported by a few members of the playerbase who spend mass amounts, and lots of players who on a rare occasion buy something small. They get nowhere near the income level of the millions who must pay 15$.

@Jerry
Maybe you've never heard, but private wow servers suck. I have checked them out. They are nothing in comparison to the actual game. So many bugs and the boss AI never works. So no, there are not 1000's of people playing without paying, theres 1000's of people playing a borked, gimp version of wow.

@Magma
The same argument can be made about WoW... How many WoW accounts are even active at all?
I created a trial account last month, then another account because a friend "recruited" me. After playing that account for 20 days, me and my friend both got bored and cancelled our subscriptions. Blizzard says they don't delete your account, so all three of those accounts are counted in that 11.5 million count even though they're not active.
How many people sign up for WoW and never play longer than a week? Probably a lot more than you think. If I want to play Free Realms again, I just have to redownload it, but if I want to play WoW again I have to pay $15.

So do all the WoW players in China that are part of that 10 million pay $15 USD per month? I thought it cost much less in Yuan.

Still...10 million people paying even $1 per month is probably more money than Free Realms is making.

Nice thing about F2P games is that you can still count people that signed up for a free account and stopped playing as members.

Using that kind of metric Everquest1 is probably close to WoWs numbers too.

They never seem to mention how many registered users are actually playing or even how well the game is doing monetarily. I know there are a few MMOs that I made an account with to check out, and then never touched again.

This number is like if MySpace tried to claim today "but we have 5 billion registered users!" Sure, but how many of those users actually still active?

Why not take 15 minutes to try it out?

It's basically a simple MMO.

Despite the childish theme and annoying censoring of any non-approved word... it's unfortunately sort of a fun game.
I mean I don't know if I'd drop any real money on it, but for the free features it offers, it's worth checking it. It's a nice way of killing some time.

I hope this comes to PS3 before the big MMOs like Final Fantsasy XIV and DC Universe. I'd like to play this on PS3 but not sure I will much if it releases after those two. (I've already played it on PC, I just like playing my PS3 more). I wish Sony wouldn't leave gamers just hanging after they announce something over a year ago, just saying its still in the works for ps3 helps.

And if it really is doing as good as they say then you'd think it would be in the works still.
