On Thursday, the UK PS3 version of Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing received a new downloadable racer and a new stage: Metal Sonic and the Egg Hangar, respectively. Then, in what seems like an inadvertent April Fools prank, it disappeared, having evidently been released early as a mistake. The Sega blog post announcing the actual DLC release for this week (Shenmue's Ryo Hazuki in his forklift) makes a point of noting that "This is the only DLC item out today."
For a few lucky, Sonic-fast buyers, it was some early DLC. But for the rest of us, it's the source of some footage, captured by reader Hogfather, that we can watch after the break to preview some upcoming DLC.
Includes Ristar cameo Sonic 3 and Knuckles Boss cameo Metal Sonic Death Egg Track 5 music tracks Comic Fall, General Offensive, Never Let If Go, Egg Fleet, Space Gadget
- Ryo Forklift Character Pack (£3.99/€4.99) includes Just Ryo Forklift
I found it really boring. Like it took so long to get anywhere! thats just my opinion though. every other dreamcast game is amazing! my favourite oldish gen console.
Shenmue is one of the games I pull out when I want to show people an example of bad voice acting in video games. "What can you tell me about the day of the incident" said in an almost deadpan voice. There are stilted conversations with everyone in the world including a kitten in a box.
That's just the beginning of the problems in the game. Why did Sega sink so much money into this project when Yu Suzuki's previous RPG, Sword of Vermillion, was such an awful game?
I was hoping something less "Sonic-like" would be coming. There still could be, of course. I really like how the game already has a nice assortment of SEGA members. I want to see that route continue.
It still pisses me off that companies have DLC ready to go when the game is shipped. Another rip off for the consumer.
Just stop with all this DLC crap for games like this (and many more), just stick everything in the box to begin with. We spend out hard earned cash on these games to play them and enjoy them.
Not to go and then spend more hard earned cash on a new course and what not.
No amount of DLC is going to keep this kind of game (and many more) going. People get bored or move on to another game.
The only DLC I agree with is the COD stuff, why? Well, COD is one of those games that people play months, years after initial release, so a new lease of life for £5/$8 every 6 months with 3-4 maps for multiplayer is ok with me.
WHAT?!?! Ryo Hazuki was released as DLC?! This is why people hate DLC. I played an early version of Sonic and Sega All-Stars, and sure enough, Ryo was an unlockable character. I guess the content didn't fit on the disc anymore, huh?
Now, this is to be expected from some companies (I'm looking at you, Namco), but man, I feel duped as a consumer every time I hear about something like this.
Whoops, forgot to add: This was a pre-order bonus anyway, it's just been made available for everyone through normal DLC means now. So they weren't exactly holding stuff back.
Well, I'm pretty sure you can call withdrawing game content from an early version, handing it out to a select few and then charging the rest of the buyers extra money, 'holding stuff back'.
Maybe that's just me. Or perhaps that is just what pre-order 'bonuses' have become.
It was work-related, I can't really say because I'm burning SEGA here. They might read it and complain to my boss that I'm sharing information about early versions, which is 'confidential'. Bullshit of course, and if you don't want to believe me I understand. But I'm not so bored that I would type all this and lie about it. :)
(how the hell do you delete comments around here? I meant to reply the first time, but messed up)

Don't quite like the idea of Ryo + forklift. Everyone knows it's his all star move. I'd rather have new characters instead of ... "Billy Hatcher in his rolling egg" or "Super Sonic"
Ryo Forklift is already in the actual game from start just needs a DLC confirmation preorder, or buying it, to activate it for outside of all star moves
After years of playing many of your Sonic games, it seems as though you overlooked a very important factor that makes Sonic cool in his recent games. In fact, a very obvious factor. Now I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I am the most handsome....but that's not the point. The point is....and let me make this clear and simple in a language we can easliy understand.....
SONIC IS FAST! That's what he does! He is Speed! What is the matter with you guys? Sonic doesn't need a fricken hoverboard or any kind of vehical! He runs faster than the speed of Sound And ever faster as Super Sonic! I mean COME ON!!! MaNNNN!!!
Love, Peace and chicken grease,
Deadpool
P.S. Make Shenmue 3 already!!
P.P.S. Amanda Bynes was awesome on the show "All That". Anyone remember that show? Anyone? :D
