It's not an ideal representation of 3D Realms' legendary project, but leaked footage is the only format in which Duke Nukem Forever is likely to reach the outside world following the studio's legal turmoil. A new fan-made compilation video, which has been uploaded to YouTube (and embedded after the break), provides a few new glimpses at Duke's never-ended extermination road trip across America.
In addition to the video, All Games Beta also hosts some alleged screenshots of the first-person shooter -- and odd third-person truck driver, apparently.
I remember reading about Duke Nukem Forever in Computer and Video Games back in 1999, that was the first video games magazine I ever got, and interestingly it still has not been released.
Joystiq is going to become a place where eventually everyone will pretend to be some celebrity, and then comment on each post with the expected quip that celebrity would say.
That looks pretty bad, as in terrible. You would think they wouldve released about 2-4 more different games if they released it on the actual date. -_-"
I know graphical elitism knows no bounds, but the Xbox could barely run Half-Life 2 and Doom 3. This looks slightly better than Quake 4. Not good current gen, but definitely within early current gen.
I agree. It didn't really stand a chance of running on the last gen hardware. But if it came out at any point this gen, after such a long dev cycle, it would have been met with universal "That's it?"
Yeah its obviously for the 360 version but really, you needed that bit at 1:30 to tell? I could tell immediatly it was being controlled via a dual-analog controller. The way it moves so perfectly along each axis without any fluidity between those axis is glaringly obvious.
Lol, i don't get it? I was just stating the obvious. If you look closely, you'll notice every time he isn't quite accurate with the right analog stick, he moves Duke around with the left stick to change his aiming position to get the correct shot. Its an obvious compensation for not being able to concentrate on 2 analog sticks at once. Its easy with a keyboard, you have 3 fingers doing all the movement subconsciously so you can aim accurately with the mouse. Definitely not the same on a dual-analog controller. I can see a good dozen examples in that video where the player has aimed in one position, and simply moved Duke around while keeping the gun aimed at the same spot, just to hit multiple targets. Its archaic and barbaric.
I don't know why you've got so much hostility, i was merely pointing out anyone who's played FPS games a lot on console and PC can see the difference immediately without referring to the moment at 1:30.
Really? Cause I mean I play Halo plenty on my 360, and my first thought was "Wow this guy sucks at aiming." I mean, even at my worst, I still play a ton better than that when on my 360.
Why are you laughing? I heard you, I heard you laughing. How could you be sitting there like nothing’s happening? Like it’s not GONE? It was here, now it’s not here! It’s gone forever, and nobody even knows that. It’s dead and it’s never coming back. It’s DEAD, and nobody cares that he’s really, really, really GONE.
Duke has never been the kind of character\concept I'm attracted to in gaming (though I did play Duke 1&2 back in the day, and much of 3D), but you can bet your ass I would have bought this just for its place in gaming history.. To see how the thing turned out.
In some ways it surprises me to see people say that this looks terrible, or things like "you'd think they'd have done more in x years".. Firstly, do you really expect a short video of WIP stuff to be representative of all the work done, or what the final product may have been? Secondly, what were you expecting? Surely it was never going to be anything more than a current-gen straight-forward Duke FPS romp. It's hard to get a sense of the flow and 'fun' of the game experience with short clips of WIP material, but I doubt they would have dropped the ball on making it entertaining.
I guess monstrous expectations are... to be expected after such a legendary wait.
