YES

I thought HS was very underrated; I loved it myself.
They definitely need to make a sequel (or rather a prequel with more Serkis).

HS is a Sony IP, exclusive or multiplat, no chance it will go to both consoles that being said, there no reason NT can't make something similar. HS on the other hand should be passed onto the creators of GOW

By the way thanks for the tip. I'll recommend milking this franchise even more to the Board of Directors.

1.5 million and not break even? Yikes. Could be a case of poor controls over cost, but still...

Where do they get that statistic of the 360 being "half the market," though? Even if you're just looking at PS360, that's not an accurate statement

This comment is an inaugural test of my new USB keyboard for Wii. Seems to work pretty well.

Exactly. If you moved 1.5 million units...and you released your game EXCLUSIVELY...as a launch title...on a system which had a less than stellar launch...

WTF?!!? I'm sorry. If you sell a million and a half of ANYTHING and don't make a profit, you're doing it wrong.

I agree. Selling 1.5 million copies and not breaking even is not the fault of Sony or the consumers. When you do something like that, you're either expecting WAY too much for your game, or you fail at management.

At least this guy isn't blaming used game sales like the Crackdown dev did.

@Troy Powers,

Perhaps you missed the bit where they said that the publisher will at least break even? There is lots of money made when a million and a half copies of a game get sold. The store selling the game makes a lot of money, the distributor makes money, the printer/publisher make money, the marketing company makes money, the magazines/websites/tv stations the game is advertised on make money. The publisher makes money. The people who lease office space to the developer make money, all of the employees at the developer make money, even the government makes a little in the form of both payroll and sales taxes. At the end of the day, the slice of the pie left to call "profit" is a very slim one, if there at all. Granted I didn't go into any detail here, but hopefully now you can maybe understand how it is a company can move 1.5 million units yet not make a profit?

Selling 1.5 million and not breaking even is a sign of bad management practices. I mean, how many employees did they have when they made/released Heavenly Sword? If it's well within 50 employees then they're probably managing something incorrectly.

This generation has gotten more wrong than it did right.

Overpriced hardware, unreliable hardware, undersupported hardware, a greater focus on graphics over gameplay, increases in the cost of development, increases in the cost of games, the death of split screen, too much focus on online multiplayer components, short campaigns...

Certaintly, some good has come of it, but there's a lot of bad with it.

But have you seen the quality of the games that have been released? theres a reason that the our average games are getting 8 now, and back in the 90- 2000's average games were getting 7 and 6's. The sheer quality of games have improved significantly.

Wii fixes most of those problems, except Under-supported hardware (There's a reason i bought a USB keyboard for Monster Hunter 3 and not a Wii Speak, after all. I could get some use out of the former, at least), but Wii has shown that local multiplayer still has a huge, huge sales capacity (at a fraction of the cost that online multiplayer takes to maintain)

Also fixes the whole "graphics over gameplay" and "milk DLC" phenomenon, though my guess is the Wii would have stupid DLC too if it were capable of doing so...

But yeah, the industry has made some great strides, but they've been looking in the wrong direction for growth this generation, focusing on satiating the demands of the vocal minority (even within the community of gamers as it existed before this generation started)

Or perhaps the quality of reviewers is going down?

While the Wii is largely immune to those problems, it has its own issues as well, such as a lack of real third party support.

Admittedly, the increase in power has created some improvements in the quality of games, whether it be enemy AI (not always), the size of stages or the overall graphical and aural fidelity.

Oh man, I miss Greatest Hits being priced at 19.99.

My thirty year old Atari still works. I've been through three 360's. I've dealt with firmware updates causing all kinds of bugs (since 3.21 I can't update any games on my PS3). We've had online hacking, glitches, DLC...it never ends.

yeah we still have terrible games, but we dont have nearly as many as during any other era. Nes,Snes,Playstation, and Playstation 2 all had a shit ton of terrible games. And like i said before, even our average games are better then the average games of the older generations, thats also explains why they score higher.

for instance while tomb raider underworld is an average game by todays standards, it would have been considered greatness last generation.

You just explained Halo!

-Greater focus on graphics over gameplay
-Too much focus on online multiplayer
-Short campaign (Halo: ODST especially)
-Overpriced game (Halo:ODST)

I guess we could call this the Halo generation.

Thanks sonos for proving my point. Reviewers are grading games on the same scale that they grade them on ten years ago. I will not deny that, but since games are now scoring higher then ever, you are also proving that games today are better then games of the past generations.

@Sonos

Ehhh. I don't want to sound like a jerk but talking about quality reviewing and then stating Avatar is a "great" movie doesn't help your cause.

I do support your idea that reviewers really need to move up the baseline bar on whats considered a good game.. The issue presented is that GAMING is a huge umbrella now. It covers "hardcore", casual, mobile, touch gaming, pop cap gaming..etc..etc. Therefore you most likely would see a low score for a 5 hour game popcap-ish game going for 60 bucks. However lower the price to say 10, and the review would go up because it becomes a solid buy for people looking for game of that nature.

IMHO, there really is no way reviews will hit on all cylinders with everyone. People have different gaming tastes and those tastes change. Genre fans have issues with change, but bulk when they get more of the same. Genre non fans will most likely never enjoy X type of game...so your only hope is the review is played down the middle and I think thats why your seeing higher scores today. Everyone seems to play things "safe".

Avatar was just gloss, nothing else really, people went to see it because if the magical mythical world and 3D vision, not for its plot ¬_¬

I personally didn't even see that much new about the world tbh, playing RPGs and reading mythical books kinda all resemble what was in that movie, not what I'd call new, but kudos for being the first to actually put it on screen.

Just because its popular doesnt mean its perfect ¬_¬ There is usually a reason why things are popular.

Twillight was popular, not as popular as Avatar, but popular none the less, personally I thought it was a terrible movie by my standards, but if I shouted that outside, a stampede of angry Twillight fans would trample me to death. Then proceed to add graffiti to my grave stone and terrorise my family :D
