There's a moment in the debut trailer for Resident Evil: Afterlife (the next Paul W.S. Anderson/Milla Jovovich joint) where series antagonist Albert Wesker throws his glasses at you, the viewer, who will also presumably be wearing 3D glasses when watching the full film. The glasses pop off the screen, and come flying towards your glasses, which is a phenomenon you couldn't experience without the aforementioned glasses. It's unsettlingly recursive.
And that's not even the weirdest thing in the trailer, which is posted after the jump. Biplanes, samurai swords, suicidal swan dives, and gigantic super-zombies wielding even larger meat tenderizers -- all of which we assume will come flying right 'atcha thanks to the implementation of James Cameron's 3D technology. Is it too early to start talking Oscars?

I played with the iPad in Best Buy and the thing is actually pretty cool. It's a lot better than I thought it'd be pre-release. I wouldn't spend $500 on one but if it were in that $199 price point I might take a look.

It's just a big iPod touch. Cool enough, but I don't like where Apple is trying to take computer technology - ie to a locked-down land where the manufacturer controls what you can do and how you can do it, charging absorbent prices for underperforming software and hardware.
The iPad is an appliance. The more popularity it gains, the more I feel technology is doomed.

You know vidguy, everyone is giving Apple such grief about this, but Microsoft is doing the same thing with the Xbox brand and XBL. They are refocusing their assets from PC to a platform they can completely control and manipulate.

Love how everyone jumps on the ipad hate train even thought none of you have ever touched one.
vidguy seems to be tragically misinformed which is fine as he's not the intended consumer. Im assuming you're the kind of person who steals media off of the internet instead of paying for it, so of course you wouldn't want one.
If you're an honest consumer though who doesn't mind paying people for the hard work they've done be it music or movies, then the ipad is amazing. The itunes store is so far ahead of what the competition offers... cough cough zune cough, that its unfair to compare the two.
Further if you read books ( not you vidguy) then this thing is a real pleasure as the ibook store has thousands and thousands of bestsellers right at your fingertips.
No there isnt flash, but again just get a netflix subscription or wait for the announced HULU app coming in the next few months, if watching tv is what you use a computer for... I just use a pvr and tv myself, but to each his own i guess.
engadget really says it best in their review: "The buyer of an ipad is (...) an individual who simply doesn't need to get that much work done, and would prefer their computing experience to be easier, faster, and simpler. Does that sound like anyone you know?"
if you dont have a laptop and are tethered to a desktop, the ipad is a perfect companion. Also quit whining about the price of a BRAND NEW GADGET... dont you know how these things work? if your an early adopter, you pay the price. Wait around a few months and pay less. Simple.

Ouch, amart, that hurts. Actually, I'm about to finish my second year of LAW school. I specialize in INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY law, at a top ten school. So, as for stealing media off the Internet, you couldn't be farther from the mark - I'm actually going to be one of the people that help sue those bastards. I don't expect you to believe me, of course, but whatever.
Your engadget quote says it all, though. "Easier, faster, and simpler" translates to /less control/. I came from a programming background and I want control over my equipment. Is the iPad cool and useful? Sure, and for someone who "simply doesn't need to get that much work done" it might be great. But as /appliances/ continue to take over, the PC will have less use. Thus, bow to your new appliance overlords.
@That Burning Sensation, I totally agree. I love my 360 but I'm continually pissed about DRM and the lack of control over a box they want me to use as my media hub.

As dumb as it is Resident Evil is one of the only decent movie franchises created off a game...

Even though the plot-line doesn't follow the game whatsoever...

@Platinum_Skeet of course Avatar was a gimmik, the WHOLE movie was a gimmik, there was no difference whatsoever to watching it in 3d or 2d (Believe me, i did) the only thing that is nice with 3d is in the beggining when Jake Sully is in his bed and this little water drop is in front of him. Other than that is a 2d movie only with some depth. For that i really prefer things getting thrown in my face.

I watched both too and I prefer it in 3D. I like the subtle 3D look and when I rented it on Blu-Ray to watch it on my projector it felt like less. Now is the 3D mechanic worth buying a new $3,000 TV and glasses for... No but, I wouldn't mind paying an extra 5 bucks to see it in the movies if it's done right...

I agree with Skeet that Avatar was amazing in 3-D. I saw the movie probably 5 times (once in 2-D) and I think 3-D makes all the difference in the world. Amazing movie.

trailer looked alright for an action movie. Doesn't look a thing like a Resident Evil game. Looks more like Ultraviolet 2 or something with some RE characters thrown in.

This does look regoddamndiculous, but I've gotta say that Wentworth Miller does make a pretty good Chris Redfield.

Regoddamndiculous is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I think most people would have a lot of fun watching these movies if they'd get themselves out of the "IT MUST BE THE SAME THING AS THE VIDEO GAME!" mindset.
If you make an adaptation that's the exact same thing as the source material, you've just made yourself incredibly redundant. Look at Watchmen.

It's funny you say that because both those movies are probably way better than this, and I imagine the theater when this is playing the theater is gonna be filled with 13 year olds saying "f*ckin badass!!1!".

It actually uses the same tech Avatar used for 3d and was filmed in 3d entirely. It wasn't a 'post production' trick like other 3d movies as of late. FYI
THe only 'good' resident evil movie is Degenereation which released like a year ago. Since that one actually uses in game voices and story from the game and captures the game spirit the most.
