Though the Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 leaderboards have all rocketed to unsurpassable heights since its release in summer 2008, Xbox Live Gold subscribers shouldn't be afraid of picking it up this week for the temporarily reduced price of 400 ($5). We mean, you should be afraid of its propensity for stealing your evenings away from you as you desperately attempt to unlock that pesky "Wax Off" Achievement. But hey, at least those attempts are pretty fun! (Or, at least, the first hundred are.)

The price it SHOULD have been released at. No game should go through 100% price increase for the sequel.

maybe because i didnt utilize the local multiplayer option is the reason why it had no sticking power for me. GW was always a single player experience for me.

$10 for 3 hours of awesomeness isn't bad.
I just spend $5 on 25 minutes of torture that was Blue Toad Murder Files.

How about as a 'single player' leaderboard experience? In the age of achievements and trophies, where every idiot has access to an instant access to a scoreboard, why do so few people (at least among Joystiq commenters) utilize the potential fun of friends list leaderboard wars?
Geometry Wars 2 as a local multiplayer experience is pure unadulterated fun. As an online friends list leaderboard driven title, it comes second only to Trials HD for 360/XBLA titles.

Is it just me or is Microsoft improving the benefits for Live Gold membership lately?

They'll need to constantly improve the service if they're going to stay ahead of the (currently) free PSN. Of course that may all change if PSN introduces the rumored paid membership level.

Apparently you haven't seen PSN's weekly deals. They have them there too.

Getting the Wax-on and Wax -off achievents wasn't that big a deal, but I have yet to get the Smiley Face and Sequence completion achievement. And I have tried many, many times. But this is a great price for my favorite XBLA game. Do yourself a favor and pick up this game.

If you own a 360 but you don't own this game, you should stop reading these comments and buy it now.

Not buying it. Only got Geometry Wars when it was on one of the Best of Arcade collections. Downvote this to oblivion, but I know I'm not the only one who doesn't care for this game.

This is tempting, but I already have a tonne of Arcade crap backlisted that are waiting for a thorough play through. The only one I've completed thoroughly is Symphony of the Night.
Very tempting, though.
