I was in the beta, and I thought this was overall a pretty good game. I dunno if it's a week 1 purchase, but I'll probably pick it up eventually.
I haven't played such a frantic, intense racing game in a while

The multi-player beta changed my mind about this game and I'll be picking it up. I still want to play split-second to see which has the better gameplay but, at this point Blur maybe my next racing game purchase...

Incredibly fun. Gone are the OCD racing sim whores, replaced by ACTUAL gamers playing a totally unrealistic, arcadey power-up fest. It doesn't get much better than this... even better than Mario Kart in my book.

Hey I love racing simulators. Nothing can compare to some touring car racing with actual respectable players and good even specd cars.

Also, the only classes that are good in this game are the lower ones where you have to actually use strategy to win. The high classed fast cars, its all about luck.

The beta didn't support the racing wheel, so it was a no go for me.

I played the beta like many others, and I can say I wouldn't even play this game if the full version was free. It was frustrating, not a lot of fun, and basically very very random as to who would win. They tagged on a COD-like leveling up system, that feels redundant. I didn't like it, maybe someone else will though.

i agree, there wasnt really any strategy to it either. People were just throwing whatever they had on them and first place was always the person who started out in first (at least in my matches)

I hate leveling! Either you select mods that will get you fans so you can level faster, or you select mods that will help you win. Either way, because cars are also level locked, "Blur" is not fun for n00bs. Why not make multi-player fun from the start? Works for "Halo"!

Real problem, once a driver breaks away from the pack, they are hard to catch up with. Any drivers left behind end up barging themselves into oblivion. The lightning bolt (nuclear option) isn't near enough to slow down the leader. Glitches abound. Plus, some game mode draws hardly any players. Bizzare should have spaced the beta farther from the release to tackle these game play issues.

Really I don't think you should blame your lack of skill on why you don't like a game.

There was an extreme amount of depth when I played. The track layouts are usually 3 lanes with about 2-4 routes you can take at any time and if you don't take the correct route at the right time you'll end up mid-pack or near the end.

LA docks is the easiest place to see it if you go far out to the left you'll get more power-ups so you can defend/attack people more and if you go to the inside when the routes split up you get a placement advantage but you're left vulnerable because you have little to no power-ups.

Yeah it's a lot harder to place 1st every race because there's 20 people but, it's not like it's a toss in the hat. I was playing in a party Sunday night and me along with 3 other guys fought for 1-3 over and over again. It's because we knew how to use the power-ups properly and knew when to go offensive or drive defensively plus we "knew the track layout". The games made for you to take 3-4 different routes throughout and every race is dynamic depending on how others drive.

I bet during the beta someone placed in the top 3 over and over again. Instead of you trying to figure out what they did and learn the track probably even learn how to play the game properly you chucked it up to randomness..

Dude I'm not saying that your opinions wrong, everyone's has their own opinion but, it seems like you disliked the game for the wrong reasons...

Random rankings? Hardly. A well managed power-up reserve can carry you quite far. In fact, small mistakes can make a big difference... but even if it were random...

So? I would rather have a game that everyone can have fun playing, no matter where they land in the standings. Some of my favorite games involve me shooting a missile into the person in front of me, only to boost under them across the finish line and into... 10th place.

Honestly, the game fuses some of the best elements of hardcore gaming with accessible fun that you usually find in casual titles. The biggest mistake will be the core gamers blowing this off because they can't win consistently.

What are you? A pro gamer with a contract to fulfill? Please, get serious and then... lighten up.

???

I think you're highly mistaken.

I agree that in some situations you can get slapped back to the end of the pack through no fault of your own.

But I wouldn't see people on winning streaks if it was exactly like Mario Kart. Yes, there is randomness but it's not that bad.

I know I'm not that great at the game and I usually finish at about the halfway mark, but a friend of mine and I were both saying that it doesn't seem to matter what place we finish in, because it's just FUN.

I like the fact that the racing never drags, either. You screw up and crash, they put you back into the action right away.

With only a few tracks, the game would be boring. But the challenges are fun, and the additions to mod your vehicle look like they'd keep me coming back.

In comparison to, say, Forza, this game is fast, fun, and crazy. The tracks are fun and varied, and we've only seen what, 4 out of how many?

as for the number of people playing, it was a closed beta. I play at 12am PST and there's enough people to fill a room of 20.

the yellow one isn't a hatchback. its a BMW x3 (i think) other one is a MKIII VW Scirocco. the fact that they included the Scirocco in the game makes me want to buy an Xbox and get this game.

Based on the beta, I think this game would get really old really fast.

I also thought that the cars handled very poorly (they feel like they are glued to the ground).

I'm sorry this isn't GT or Forza. It isn't meant to be an obsessively technical racer. Only car nuts, graphics whores, and sheep play games like that.

It's meant to be fun. And, for me at least, it is. It could still use some tweaking, but I'd rather play a good game than a frustrating simulator.

What an awful comment. I am none of those things that you mentioned, yet I enjoy the full gamut of racing games, Forza to Mario Kart, and everything in between.

For me though, if you're going to have realistic cars in a realistic setting, while I know they want to exaggerate and stylize the physics, but if you don't make them at least slightly believable, it gets to a point where it doesn't make sense and is no longer fun.

@bioadam
@PedoJokerBear

That's what the Blue lightning bolt is for. After its activated 3 lightning bolts come in front of the 1st place person. Now 2 are usually really easy to dodge and the last you either have to slow down/drift to avoid which slow the person in first down. if everyone in the race is using that power-up alone properly the person in first doesn't get too far ahead.

Just think about it if half the racers use the power-up that's 30 lightning bolts in front of the person in first.

When you're playing against people that use the lightning correctly the first-place person is only out 10-15 seconds from the last with the top 10 being closely behind the leader.

When I jump in a game I'm just telling everyone use the lightning because that's what blocks the person in first from staying there. To add it goes back to everyone knowing the track because if half the racers are taking a different route and not touching the lightning then the leader is never being slowed down...

if this game requires you to know the ins and outs of it before you start to enjoy it, instead of pick up and play, then i justly pass on it.

Yeah, lets not learn how to play games people, lets all demand developers to make simpler games where you only have to press the right trigger to race. Slot car racing games from now on cause its way too hard to learn what power ups do. Wait we cant have slot car racing, if you hold the trigger when you turn you will go off the track, that would be too hard for some people to learn and would be make the game unenjoyable. All racing games must now consist of just straight lines and automated acceleration of the same car for everyone and everyone always ties so everyone feels like they win!

The game is pretty decent.. But I certainly wouldn't pay full price for it. As someone who was a big fan of the PGR series, I find it very odd how driving properly by slowing down to take the turns, etc seems to be redundant compared to people driving at full speed into the walls.

They're also quick to hype up "no blue shells" but the problem this causes is that when one player gets in the lead, very little can stop them as the other players are busy fighting for the other posistions while the leader steams on ahead. It hardly feels fair when you lose a race merely because you get smacked about a bit too much on the first lap, and then don't stand a chance of ever catching up.

I'm not saying I liked the blue shell, but I can begin to understand why it was there. In my opinion, get Sonic & Sega Racing instead or wait for Modnation.

The wall-riding is something which should be addressed - and as for those pesky leaders? Pick up lightnings - pick up two or three, wait til the leader is in a tight section, and unleash them all. It's almost unstoppable.

According to the beta forum, the wall riding has been addressed, though I'm unsure if we will see the results in this demo or not.

As for one person getting way out in front... Meh. In the pack is where all the fun is anyway.

Burnout Paradise didn't do it for me like Burnout Revenge did. Maybe online multiplayer for Blur will give a nice Mario Kart feel.

Its either that or rely on only shooters for multiplayer still

I am thoroughly enjoying this. This doesn't feel like Mario Kart at all, in that items in Mario Kart are almost solely determined on your position in the race at that moment. Blur's items are always in the same place, meaning that the person in last place will not necessarily have the best items. I feel that there is an equal amount of skill in driving and knowing what items to have and when to use them.

I had a great time in the Beta, and will probably pick the game up 1st week. I've sat out on racing games this gen; I'm just not into them at all. The power-ups add a whole new element to the game that makes me want to race/compete for first. Good game so far.
