Electronic Arts has officially launched Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online, its free-to-play version of the popular golf game. Players can sign in with an EA persona and play a limited number of featured courses for free (St. Andrews and Sheshan are the two currently available), while earning XP and money for the in-game Pro Shop. Alternatively, for you fat cats out there, packages of points are also available for $10, $20, and $40 that can be spent on in-game items or rounds of golf at locked courses.
The game also offers group tournaments and friend-to-friend messaging -- essentially, it's very much EA's attempt to bring the successful Battlefield Heroes model to a new audience. In an interview with CNBC today, Peter Moore made it clear that they're behind both star Tiger Woods and this game. The free-to-play title is designed to pull in an audience of "40-year golfers, mostly male," Moore said, adding that "it's our job to upsell them." If EA Sports can do that as well as the Battlefield Heroes team has, then we may see even more of these free-to-play online titles from the company.

I know it's not real courses or players, and it's kinda too anime with the graphics for my tastes, but the best online golf game I've played in a long time was the (free) Shot Online.
It's basically MMORPG golf, and it works really well... or at least did the last time I played it over a year ago.

Say what you will, but it's pretty awesome. Basically, it's an online golf game that you start off on the beginner courses, and for every round you play, you gain experience and money based on how you play.
More money leads to better equipment, and more experience leads to leveling up which lets you increase your stats, like an RPG. Except that it's also a very accurate way to describe sports in the real world as well. The more you play, the better you get, and it's the same in this.
And instead of going out and playing one person at a time like in the offline version of Tiger Woods golf, you play in a foursome in Shot-Online, like you would if you were actually playing a round.
The biggest issue I had with it was the stamina attribute. Basically, after every round, you needed to sit on a bench for a short while to regain stamina. But overall, it was a very good golf game, and the main thing that got me to stop playing it was Tiger Woods on the Wii, with the motion controls (especially this year with MotionPlus).
The problem with Tiger Woods for the past few years continues to be the difficulty. It's ridiculously simple to hit 15 under par, even when you up the in-game difficulty. And there's practically no consequence to a bad shot, since you can just read the exact percentage that the lie will affect the shot and get it close from that. The best part about Shot-Online was that it conveyed the difficulty of actual golf.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like Tiger Woods' personal life is none of our business? I don't condone cheating on your wife, but I don't really understand why he doesn't deserve to be on sports memorabilia anymore. I mean, it's not like we found out he's been cheating at golf this entire time, or his entire career is a sham. He's still one of the best golfers of all time; he should be on the cover of EA's golf game.

yeah i find it funny how nobody talks or even mentions what ben rothisburger is accused of. Yet tiger woods does somethings that isnt even illegal and every body wants his head on a chopping block.
The media should really be crucifying Big Ben seeing as how this is his second offense.

Same thing with Ashley Cole, fans booing him because he cheated on his wife, so what? Hes a damn good player :/
I think people believe that in order to be a sporting hero, you need to have a wonderful blissful life, perfect children and a perfect wife. Nonsense, when was sport taken out of the 'sport' context.

He should be given shit for the cheating on his wife because companies pay millions for his endorsements based on his "squeaky clean image." He can't get money for his public image then tell people to give him privacy, that which he gives up in order to be a celebrity/have endorsements. Honestly though, outside of endorsements, I don't see much of a reason to give him shit, other than the fact that his wife is hot, and what good reason would you have to cheat on her?
On the other hand, everyone knows Roethlisberger is sort of an asshole in general despite being pretty good.

When did the whole reason for being with someone revolve around them being hot ¬_¬ I love Cheryl as much as the next guy, but she's as thick as god knows what, can't judge to save her life and singing is average at best.
Besides that, Ashley isn't in the business to promote his image alone, if people want that, they can look for that in models, an actor acts, a singer sings, a footballer is meant to be able to score goals and Tiger is meant to hit balls into holes like no tomorrow. I don't condone what he did as he has a family, as for Cheryl and Ashley, they don't so tbh, he can do what he wants. The only thing he'd had to feel guilty about is her heart being broken, but theres no kids to worry about. Ash is a damn good defender if I can find one, and Tiger is a damn good golfer, what does it matter what he does in his personal life as long as he isn't commiting crimes. I pay to watch them perform, not buy thier perfumes and aftershaves, lol, and for those that do....well I feel sorry for you.
