Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess, the PSP Mini about unfortunate anti-monster racial profiling, has been given a release date of April 22 -- which publisher Mediatonic has confirmed is worldwide. The game, playable on both PSP and PS3, stars the Duke, who goes on an ill-researched quest to rescue his princess, jumping endlessly upward through vertically scrolling levels, and beating up every presumed guilty monster he sees (hint: all of them).
To see the game in (unfair) action, check out the trailer after the break. It features random wings, Castlevania-esque music, and monster piledrivers! You'll probably enjoy watching it.
That monster wasn't snarling, he was sneezing. He has a tissue in his hand! It's that little girl with the quantum physics books you should worry about.
Fun little game, albeit VERY short. It took me maybe 10 minutes to complete the entire thing. Before doubting me; I'm a games journalist and got an early voucher code for the game.
Well, it's 101mb (making it 4x bigger than other Minis I've played thus far), the download said "Full Game", it's version 1.0 and it's a review copy - I would think it isn't just a demo :P
Let me add some explanation to the 10 minutes. Ten minutes is just the time it takes to fly through the story, but the gameplay encourages that you keep playing those same levels over and over and try to beat your own combo highscore and unlock the various in-game stuff. That's where the game gets some needed length and it's actually quite challenging at times, if you really wanna max those combos.
Trying to use a point system and setting personal goals by reaching points or times is a lame way to try and excuse a short game. It just means the developer couldn't provide the content and expects the player to fill in the gaps.
Landing on a platform builds up your combo, however if you land on the same platform twice in a row, the combo resets so the trick is to land on every platform once and be pretty quick about it, so that you still have time to beat the stage by double jumping into the monsters face three times.
