MMO developer NCSoft's plans for sequelization aren't limited to a Guild Wars follow-up, it seems. Superannuation recently dug up a pair of trademarks for "City of Heroes 2" filed by the studio on April 1. As with all video game trademarks, it's possible NCSoft is just reserving the name and may not have plans for a sequel at this time.
Alternatively, the company might just be pulling an extremely discrete April Fools' Day joke, though it already pulled that off with the recent announcement of City of Sidekicks. We've contacted NCSoft to see what we can find out.

Do you really need to reserve the name of something like this? I mean, who would come along and steal the name "City of Heroes 2?" I... I really don't think you can do that.

Just like patents, trademarks can be snatched up legally once they expire. This is why such things as medication loses it's patent and we end up with generics.

Awesome. Use to love the original. Make real super heroes like Gordon Freeman and such. Was such a great game minus the instances. They were too similar every single time.

I should get into this game. I can finally make the hero I always wanted.
Captain Neo Mega Balls
Power: Telepathic Diarrhea.

In all honesty this would make a great concept for some sort of comedic media.

Isn't this something they should have done years ago? BRB registering City of Heroes 3 trademark.

Oh, god, those costumes. I thought we comic geeks had reached a consensus that Rob Liefeld sucks, and we'd pretend the '90s didn't happen.

Hopefully this means better character models. The new Ultra Mode is pretty snazzy, but it really accentuates the outdated and low poly character models in the game.
