Ever been playing vanilla Street Fighter IV and thought to yourself, "Man, this Guile character sure could be more Guile-like!"? Really? Wow, Capcom must be reading your mind! In Super Street Fighter IV, the developer claims to have taken Guile and made him, uh, himself again. According to Capcom-Unity, beyond the tweaks to Guile, "Vega got helpful buffs, Dhalsim does more damage (!), M. Bison's psycho crusher has become a scary move again, and Sagat can still be a beast even without making you feel like you got robbed when he beats you." Well then!
Additionally, in a future dev blog update, Capcom has promised to reveal details about the tweaks to El Fuerte, C.Viper, Abel, Rufus, Seth, Akuma, and Gouken. So, will Gouken be even more Gouken-like? The suspense is killing us!

Ooh, so can Dhalsim's high EX medium roundhouse fireball finally counter Dan's low ultra into jab uppercut spinning owl kick, but only in between the 4th and 6th frames of invincibility?

So basically they could have summed it up and said that it is now harder to plat than ever before, and that if fighters are not your strong suit that you shouldnt even bother picking this up because it will make you cry tears of blood. Did I miss anything?

The controls are exactly they same. They're talking about character buffs that the layman wouldn't even care about, like Dhalsim's Yoga Mummy doing more hitstun and Guile's charge buffers being shortened by a fraction of a second.
The balance changes are for tourney-f**s like me. You wouldn't even notice the difference between the characters.

I'm still not sold that Sagat will be nerfed enough; not only do they admit that he'll still be above the other players (although apparently not as much), but his play-style doesn't really have any flaws. He really has control of pretty much the whole screen in one way or another. Lowering his damage output CAN balance him, I suppose, but it's going to need to be done exactly right.
...right?
...right?

How about a limit on the number of times your opponent can pick Ryu?

No, people spam MOVES as Ken. Definitely online 8/10 people play Ryu. Possibly even 11/10.

Make Chun-Li stronger and I'll be happy!

Chun Li is confirmed stronger from the previous entry. Plus her new Ultra has more combo setups than Ryu. Basically, infinity + 1.

Um, so how about making these changes and balancing issues into a patch and fixing up the first street fighter 4?

Hmm, I wasn't even that interested, since I don't play it anymore :P But now, I'm curious, why can't they patch it? I did look it up just now, and I can't find anything that says they wouldn't be able to do it. They did add a championship mode, didn't they?

something like the amount of tweaks they did with characters and to the ultra system would be way to much to put into a single patch. Basically it changes the whole game. Personally I think its bs and agree with you but I've just gotten past it and learned from my mistake.(to never buy the first edition of a numbered street fighter)

Thanks for the that; just looking for some explanation. Yeah, I agree with you, sounds fishy, but maybe they just didn't design it that way to begin with. Although why they would do that is strange itself. Anyway, don't much care either way, had my fill of sf4 for a while.

If they tweak Akuma (aka give him back his defense) I will buy this game

Sorry bad news, Akuma only got nerfs due to his nearly infinite combo.

Actually, Akuma is looking to take the top spot. He's lost none of his tools (The Jab > Roundhouse loop still exists, though it's specifics are tighter). His DP does less damage, but so does the DP of everyone else in the game. The rest of him is virtually untouched, and he was always A-tier before. With Ryu, Sagat and Rufus taking even larger nerfs, that leaves Akuma right where he was, but now his only competition for toppest tier will be the new characters.
People who complain about Akuma's defense don't really know how to play as Akuma.

Hopefully they have made Akuma's stamina better, he used to get destroyed in about 4 hits by Zangief

Yeah, but if you know how to play Akuma you should have no problem not being anywhere near Gief...

I agree. Make Chun-Li stronger. I could dominate with her in Street Fighter II, but she's pitifully weak by comparison in SSIV.
Posted: Apr 6th 2010 7:32PM OmegaIXIUltima said
Good, I was disappointed at how weak she was in SFIV. It seems they were nerfing throughout the series. In 2 she was great, 3rd strike she was ok, and IV she was weak. Looks like she is going to be one of my mains again!
Posted: Apr 6th 2010 7:41PM MNC Dover said
She was OK in 3rd Strike? Seriously? She's like the top character in the game with Yun. Crouching mk -> super all day long. As a Chun player, I'm glad she got knocked down a few notches in SF4. After playing her in Super at PAX, she's only gotten a little better while the characters above her got a little worse.
tl;dr - in the right hands she can dominate now

Dhalsim doing more damage is a misleading quote. The entire cast of characters does less damage overall, except for Dhalsim and Seth who did little damage to begin with, so they were left unchanged. So by comparison to everyone else now they do more damage, but realistically they do the same damage they always have.

I wanna see what the HELL they do to make El Fuerte not be absolutely useless, cause I actually LIKE the character, but playing as him is punishment.
Then again, the reason I played him, other than being a grappler(ZANGIEF FOR LIFE!!) is that he kinda played like Guy... and Guy's back, so yeah.

After distillation, 100% Guile becomes 100% Guile! We tried to determine the potential of the new Guile by running some tests. The method involves sun glasses and none of our test subjects got past one shot.

Too bad nothing they do, short of changing the game completely, will keep this game from being a snore/turtle fest.

Here's what I got out of that:
"[none of this matters, because you'll still get flame-shoryuken'd over and over by Ken online, the training mode still won't help you get any better, and your friends still suck so you'll never improve]"
Awesome.
