You might think gadget unboxing videos are unnecessary. A quick look after the break is all you need to realize that you are wrong. Aaron Nanto of pcenginefx.com has filmed a beautiful unboxing video notable not only for its subject (an NEC TurboExpress, the handheld version of the Turbografx-16 console) but for its beautiful cinematography.
For us, this video lies somewhere between "love story" and "pornography," though we wouldn't dare suggest it's indecent to watch. We've never been so thrilled to see five seconds of Keith Courage in Alpha Zones.
That music sounds so familiar... anyone know what it's from? Some of it almost reminds me of the sad theme from The Professional, but I know it probably isn't...
That song is awesome. I don't care if it sounds like girl porn (how the hell do you know? :P). Though if theres porn of girls for girls, I'll watch, even if it doesn't have this song! (email those to Shiaoran @t gmail.com, ok? ;D)
"I agree with Senator Heflin. Yeah, that's right! The women like something with more stories and costumes, that'll transport 'em to another place and time. That's right! Women don't like close-ups of oversized genitalia! That's just never gonna turn 'em on!"
--Strom Thurmund*, during the Clarence Thomas hearings
For those who may want to know what song is that, the guy who made the video told me that "The music is from "The Holiday" OST called "Iris and Jasper"."
—Usage note Memento is sometimes spelled momento, perhaps by association with moment. The word is actually related to remember. One of its earliest meanings was “something that serves to warn.” The meaning “souvenir” is a recent development: The stone animal carvings are mementos of our trip to Victoria. Momento is considered by many to be a misspelling, but it occurs so frequently in edited writing that some regard it as a variant spelling rather than an error.
Well it's rather good but they overdid the depth of field a lot and the constant close-up starts to tire after a while. Also the music should have ramped up when they turn it on but that's just my opinion and I am usually overly critic.
TLDR: I couldn't do anything even remotely close to that and it has some awesome style: 8/10 :P
lol. I bet the sound chip doesn't work as with 99% of these that are still lying around in boxes. I think I'll go pull mine outta the closet and burn up 6 batteries for old time's sake.
Awww man I feel really old watching this now. I used to own one of those. It was awesome! It's too bad that hand held gaming devices now don't seem to feel as fun or innovative. I own both a psp and a ds and neither ever really gets much use if at all. I had high hopes for the Atari Lynx when that came out years ago. i owned both models and the games on it were awesome! Gates of Zendocon was my favorite shooter!! and it had pretty awesome graphics for a handheld game back in the day! Oh and yes the Nomad was awesome too! I miss my Nomad. it was such a cool little machine...
Aside from a few games, EVERY CD-based game for the console had a heavy metal soundtrack. Lords of Thunder is #1 on my list of "Most Air-Shredable Video Game OSTs of All Time"
I actually own a TurboExpress as well as the (now completely useless due to Digital TV transition) TV Tuner.
I can say that the video probably would have been longer except that the 6 new AA batteries ran dead shortly after playing the attract mode of Bonk's Revenge seen in the last clip.
I've had one for 5 years (thank you, internet) and I love it. Does anyone know if the TV tuner has any direct inputs, since analog TV signals are gone now?
Aaron, great job. Now, can you do this with a PC Engine LT?
BTW, I've got a kit coming out to fix those bad caps in the Turbo Express....
Yeah, I'm still alive....you all should have come to see me at the Midwest Gaming Classic in Brookfield WI. I had the most photographed table there...almost all PC Engine stuff.
The only other NEC console I have that is in-box is the PC Engine CD-ROM2 unit so that will probably be my next one. All of the rest of my NEC consoles you can see in my earlier film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThjERUXeBeI
This is like someone discovering photoshop filters for the first time, except the video version. I appreciate it, but it's still a little overproduced...
