Starting tomorrow, the six of you left out there with a Steam account who haven't played Modern Warfare 2 online in some form will get a free three-day pass to Murdertown (read: online multiplayer). Valve announced today that, "beginning this Thursday, April 8," the online multiplayer section of the game will become free-to-play, presumably ending sometime on Sunday evening (no time is specified for start and end, but we've followed up with Valve for a solid schedule).
The announcement also notes that "There is no obligation to participate," though we imagine some totally boring editor somewhere cut off the original ending, which read "unless you're into having fun. Then it's an obligation."

Lately they have been pathetic. Pathetic DLC prices, DLC "rewards", and incentives.

I'm going to download it, play it, then never buy it, just to spite kotick.

Hey wait up, I want to play tf2 too!
Sad that for almost the price of the stimulus package, you can get the best multiplayer game ever, and you don't have to spend a penny to play with everyone.

TF2 and L4D1/2 are more fun/interesting to play than Call of Duty. :|
So... I'll do that instead.

I already have it on PS3 but I've never played a COD game on PC so this is a good oppertunity to try the game out with a mouse and Keyboard, of course I'll probably just end up hooking up a 360 controller and playing that way from getting sick of using the mouse.
Posted: Apr 7th 2010 6:20PM RKN said
Sorry, but the PC version does not support the 360 controller, despite it very much being a 360 console port to the PC. You'd think it would offer controller support, I like to have both. Keyboard for playing on the desk, and controller for playing hooked up to the HDTV, best of both worlds!

It offers controller support, you just have to buy the offical MW2 PC controller, it's what my brother did.

Well, my brother really bought it for GTA4, but GTA4 wouldn't support it as GTA 4 only supported 360 controllers.

Does anybody know if the map pack DLC be free on the PC and released as a patch or would you have to buy it through the GFWL marketplace?
Posted: Apr 7th 2010 6:21PM RKN said
I'm almost 100% certain it will also cost money, why do you think they removed dedicated servers from the PC version?
They don't want to have mods which they fear will eat into DLC sales, despite many PC games and console games (eg. LittleBigPlanet) thriving on both free mods and paid DLC. Sigh.... : (
It also won't be GFWL, since this isn't a GFWL game, it is a SteamWorks game, the DLC will be distributed through Steam.

It will be through Steam, and it will cost your soul.
But then again, if you buy these overpriced map packs ($10, $15, etc...) then you probably don't have a soul to begin with, so you can just give your money.

I completely forgot that Steam now supports DLC, I was reminiscing of the CoD:WaW patches adding new maps and thought they might of kept the same thing.
Ah well, it was a nice though while it lasted.

Am I the only person in the world that's more interested in playing CODMW2 singleplayer than multiplayer?

For the record I haven't played MW2 single player but I absolutely loved MW1 single player.

I, too, am one of six. The only "modern" shooter I need is Counter-Strike, really. :/

I'd like to think most steam users don't have modern warfare 2, because they are up to date with its awful shenanigans.
I MIGHT try it though, i have a feeling I'm gonna be overwhelmed and not like it.

with all the people who posted they are one of the six, you'd think they changed the meaning of 6 to 20 (or 20 is now written as six), cause I'm one of them too

I think ill be playing Bad Company 2 instead. I hear MW2 is unplayable on PC anyway because of cheating that IW doesnt care enough to fix.

I've yet to run into it (thank god).
Only times I saw accusations of cheating, the people being accused appeared to be pretty legit. Real cheaters do things that aren't even feasible, but sometimes you can do one good twitch headshot and get branded a cheater and kicked out (back when we had servers).
Most people who complain about cheaters and never got into competitive level gaming in that game tend to exaggerate cheats. Cheaters like to get asinine amounts of headshots and track you when it would be impossible for them to know you're there.
/rant
I feel bad for those who actually do run into cheaters though.
