Well played Mr. Jobs. Well played. That's one thing that I never thought would happen. Should I try my luck and hope for Flash ...?

A lot of people want that to happen, but I don't know if it'd be likely. Can't remember Apple's exact reason to leave out Flash, but I think it had something to do with Flash contributing to the jailbreaking/free app scene if enabled.

All I remember is that it has something to do with "free apps" or somewhere along that line that Apple is worried about lol

Jobs hates Flash, despite the fact that the Internet is practically built on it.

Apple looks at the iPhone (and iPod Touch, and iPad) as a gaming platform. Enabling Flash would mean that tons of games would suddenly be available for the platform without anyone having to go through the app store. For this reason, Apple is keeping flash locked out of all of their devices.

Personally I think it's silly. My computer has flash, but I haven't played a flash based game in an extremely long time. I still buy computer games, even though there are literally thousands of free flash games out there to be played. I think the same would prove true for the iPhone/pad/pod if only they'd allow flash.

It's all about to be a moot point though; HTML5 is the future.

I get that HTML5 is the future and I'm all for it. But if HTML5 can do everything Flash can, what happens when they start making games in HTML5 format?

The only reason why I ever wanted Flash is because some people and studios use Flash to display their portfolios. It may be a resource hog, but it's a pretty resource hog.

@BananaBoat - the problem is that most games in the App store are really similar to free flash games (and in many cases, are actually just adaptations of existing free flash games that you have to pay for). So I can see why Apple would be reluctant to support flash.

Finally, about time. Can't believe it took them this long to implement that feature. Yeah, I know their reasoning is that because of the processor and memory, the iPhone would lag when multitasking, but I still say that's bull.

if my BlackBerry can multitask the iPhone should be able to multitask. the hardware not being powerful enough was just a lame excuse. they are playing catchup to Palm and RIM in this respect. but if you ask Steve Jobs he will probably tell you he invented multitasking

Yeah, I know what you mean lol Most of the smartphones I've been using lately were able to multitask rather easily. HTC's Dream wasn't especially powerful in the processor department, and yet it multitasked fine.

I have an iPhone (only a 3G), but I admit that it's not my favourite handheld. I got bored of it rather quickly really, after the initial awe of the apps wore out. I much prefer using the BlackBerry 9700. After I got that phone, I pretty much stopped using everything else lol BlackBerry phones are just capable of doing stuff that the iPhone can't do out of the box 'cause Apple doesn't like it. Ie. AutoText (best feature in a phone ever, in my opinion, 'cause I'm at texter lol) and the ability to tweak even the smallest things when it comes to alerts and sounds. For some reason, the iPhone can't do any of that straight out of the box, and after using a BlackBerry, the iPhone seems lacking in the most basic departments.

Gotta love the BlackBerry. Once I started using the 8900, I was hooked on the brand lol And upgrading to the 9700 for 3G just solidified what my primary phone would be. Forget the iPhone and Dream now lol There's a reason why people nickname is "CrackBerry" lol It's addicting.

spot on. i have a 9700 as well and i can't imagine using a device that can't multitask, can't copy/paste, doesn't have a real keyboard and doesn't have an optic pad or trackball. and BBM is kickass.

Yeah, definitely. Although touchscreen is nice for a few things, I prefer a physical keypad to type stuff out. I can type fast enough on an iPhone, but never liked the idea of typing on a touchscreen. That's part of the reason why I got the Dream. It has a physical keypad as well as a touchscreen. And the Android OS is really nice. But for some reason, the Dream just didn't do it for me, so I got the 8900 and subsequently the 9700. Now I'm always using the phone, whether for BBM, MSN, or just looking up the score for a game that's playing. I'm probably gonna sell the Dream now and maybe get a more powerful Android-based phone. I want the Nexus One, but shelling out $550-ish for that seems a bit much lol

Although the trackball was nice to use and play around with, I didn't like how it would eventually stick after overuse, so the new trackpad is a godsend. But yeah, as someone that texts and uses Messenger a lot, the BlackBerry beats the iPhone or anything else for me hands down.

Talk about being behind the times. But hey that's what you get fro buying an Apple product!

Palm Pre kicks the iPhone's ass. It had real multitasking, and an alert/notification that is even better than the Droid's. You can get instant messages while you game, and reply to them, without missing a beat.

Hey, that's how the 360 got such a spiffy dashboard. It took queues from the Xbox modding done in the previous generation.

No company is above integrating good ideas and then proclaiming how awesome it (the company) is. It's just good business.

Why the hell did Microsoft say (with pride, I might add) that WinPh7 wouldn't support multitasking, when that's all people have been begging Apple for for the past 3 years?

Iphone 4.0 will have the exact same type of multitasking wp7 has.... pause apps and keep save states. the only think iphone will do beyond that (that wp7 will not have atleast for now) is the media/gps/voip background processes. Although I have a feeling those apps will have background processes on wp7 when it launches.
