It's a beautiful day to be a Joystiq reader and a fan of Peter Molyneux. After years of extensive testing and the (as it turns out, unnecessary) deaths of millions of lab animals, we've finally perfected the Peter Molyneux Quote Realisticator 2007 (sorry about the name, we had to delay it a few times). So now, when Peter Molyneux tells IGN that Fable 3 will feature "the greatest cast that any computer game has ever had," you know it's the equivalent of a regular person saying, "Fable 3 has a pretty darn good cast."
Actually, we're a little surprised his praise is so mild. John Cleese as your butler? Stephen Fry as Reaver? What does it take to impress you, man?

Stephen Fry was awesome in Fable II. Let's hope they can top it.

I shudder at the very thought sir! Yank accents in Fable!
We don't want those rambunctious colonists in our Albion
Good day to you sir!
(PS we need to entire Monty Python cast, then we'll talk about best cast ever)

Yea I find it hard to believe Molynuex would restrain himself so.
How about a revolutionary cast that will challenge gamers like never before, and also people will be pissed off.

Here's another similar shot of Fable 3, including a sword-wielding hobbe:

Lets hope the overall game is better then "meh".
Peter should learn to keep his trap shut though. Most annoying bloke in the industry. Yaps on about how good his games and ideas are they always turn out pretty average.

I don't take anything Peter has to say about his games pre-launch seriously. If you do, you will just end up being disappointed. While most of the games he works on are ok, none of them have been as great as he touts on about while they are in production.

Now lets see if we can get some gameplay to match.

In fact I enjoyed the voices in Fable and Fable2 already. They matched the game world and underlined what I loved most in the Fable games: The RPG parody elements (wether they were intended or not. I seriously don't know). I don't really care for the names of the voice actors as long as they do well.

Either way, do I get to kill him this time? Man I hated that guy. Well, except for that part at the end...

I just don't get Fable. It's not as big as Oblivion, not as deep as Mass Effect, not as polished as Zelda and nowhere near as fun as any of the aforementioned titles.

To me it feels like a combination of Oblivion and Zelda, and that makes for a very fun game.
Not to mention you can run around in your underwear, airhump around the townsquare in make-up, all while being drunk and vomiting. That, my good friend, makes for a fun game.

Yeah, but it's also not as ugly as Oblivion, as clunky as Mass Effect (the first one, anyway,) or as linear as Zelda.
As for fun, Fable is the kind of game where you get out what you put in. You get to make your own story within the framework that they build for you and get to create a character that is truly unique to you. If you just want to burn through the main story, you'll get a short and shallow experience, but the depth is there if you want it. I mean, I probably spent as many hours over 3 playthroughs just dying clothes, customizing weapons, and decorating my rental properties (for the achievements, naturally) as I did playing through entire games like Uncharted 2 or CoD:MW.

Yeah, I try, but I always get bored with them. The game has personality, but none of the characters do, if that makes sense.

I totally understand where you are coming from. While I thought the Fable games were ok, there was just something about the NPCs in the game that I just could not get into. Almost all of them bothered me for some reason. Weird thing is, I never felt this slight irritation towards the NPCs in any of the other games mentioned above (Oblivion, Zelda, Mass Effect, ect)

After I read Mystile's comment, I made a mental list of things that I hate more than Fable's interaction system of dancing and farting to make people like you and this is what I came up with: Parents that name their children "Kyler", people named "Kyler", customized licensed plates, moms that refer to themselves as "cool", third-party gaming peripherals named after animals, American Idol and - let's say it together now, people - Hugh Jackman!

Lets just hope the game is good shall we before we concern ourselves with the cast of voice acting, which has never really made much difference to me. I don't get attached to voice actors, I get attached to characters.
Though, saying that, I do like Stephen Fry, but his voice alone would not be enough to warrent me paying for a game I won't enjoy.

Voice actors make good characters. You could have the best written character ever and if he;s voiced by someone who isnt even a professional VA youd probably hate him

Not necessarily, I agree with proffesionalism, but recognition isn't a crucial factor, the voice actor just needs to know what they're doing and be suited to the character, I admit that bad voice acting can turn me off a game or just make the game look downright hilarious, but that's if the script told to read is terrible to begin with, plus the fact the voice actor is just amateur.
Personally I would rather play a game with a good unheard of voice actor then a game that sticks...say...stephen fry in it just for the sake of it.

Hyperbole and Molyneux should be synonyms.
but we will see ME2 had an amazing cast. and it would take every more than cleese and fry to even compare.

Glad to hear they have a great voice cast. A game can be ruined by annoying voice acting and terrible dialog. When a good majority of the game is hearing people talk, you can't just pick up any ol' joe shmoe off the streets.

I'm interested to see how Fable 3 turns out. I LOVED the first game, and felt that the second lost some of the "magic" of the first one. Not spells mind you, but the actual feel of the world around you. I still loved the 2nd one, just not as much as the first.
