If you're a regular reader, you probably already know why we use the word "exclusive" in quotes so often. But if you're not, you might not know that it's because of situations like this, where the Xbox 360 "exclusive" Modern Warfare 2 DLC (a five map pack titled "Stimulus Package") is suddenly announced as heading to PlayStation 3 and PC. In fairness, as detailed by Microsoft to Eurogamer back in January, we already knew this particular exclusivity deal had a built-in expiration date.
What we didn't know, however, was an official release date for the PS3 and PC versions. Infinity Ward community man Robert Bowling revealed the May 4 US release date for PSN via Twitter, also detailing a May 5 release date worldwide for PS3s and May 4 for PCs worldwide. Though he doesn't specify, we have to imagine that pricing will remain in line with the content's $15 tag on XBLM. We've followed up with Bowling for clarity's sake and will let you know the solid pricing details as soon as we hear back.

You're right!
But I'm not going to use that as a lame justification for making that mistake again on these maps...

Honestly getting sick of MW2. I like it, it's just the mentality of the people playing it. Sick of the constant bleating; Waaa camper, waaa nube tuber, waaa commando is the new Martyrdom!!! Video games are supposed to be fun!!!
I have gone back and started Platinum-ing some games I never finished (got Uncharted 2 yesterday!) Gonna get back to MW2 at a later date!!
And I have decided to keep my $15 and save up and get Red Dead Redemption instead!!

i don't get why microsoft wanted this deal if they knew that it was only for a really short while, surely they cannot entice that many consumers to go and buy an xbox 360 over a PS3 in a month...

Unfortunately I had to part with my PS3 for a while (lots of studying-summer coming), but if I still had it I would EASILY buy these maps for $15. I would even consider them at $20.
I am not going to state what I have stated many times in these threads already (price per hours played, similar forms of entertainment that are far more expensive, etc). But I am going to say I love the game and would have loved to check out the new maps. To me, they are worth it. And I am not an idiot for thinking so, nor whatever other name you guys are throwing around.

deathxrebirth,
I'm sure it hasn't gone unnoticed by other publishers in the industry that 2.5 million people were more than happy to pay $15 for 5 maps (only 3 of which are new) in less than 48 hours after it was made available. The reason people are throwing the word "idiot" around on this site and others is that the acceptance of the Stimulus Package has set industry precedent in multiple ways, none of which are good for you (the gamer). The message being sent to other publishers is that it's a perfectly acceptable practice to put a relatively small amount of effort into making new content (or even lifting existing content directly from a game's immediate predecessor) while charging a 50% premium over similar DLC releases in the past. The Stimulus Package has raised the ceiling for map pack pricing from an accepted $10 to $15. Prices are sticky up; they rarely go down once they've risen and, if they do, it can take a relatively long time for them to. $15 is the cost of a proper expansion pack or even a fully fledged game. For what you're spending on the Stimulus Package, you could be buying Shadow Complex or something like a Fallout 3 expansion. Hell, you could probably buy a game like Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Dead Space, Soul Calibur IV, or Uncharted for only $5 more or get something like GTA IV: The Lost and the Damned. You could buy 3 PSN originals. Publishers are hearing, "We don't mind getting significantly less bang for our buck" and they are going to act on it accordingly.
If you find the Stimulus Package to be a good value and worth a purchase, then good on you; I hope you have fun once you buy it. However, a lot of people don't and they can see implications of buying it at its current price. While their response to the DLC's release and to those who bought can be distastefully worded, the logic behind it is perfectly sound and the fear of what could happen in the future is very real.

I typed a lot longer response but Joystiq ate it, so I will just say...
All well and said, but the bottom line is, MW2 is one of the best selling games of ALL TIME. People play the game religiously to this day. It was obviously worth it to 2.5mil people.
I can't see a lot of other games trying to adopt this price tier as they are NOT MW2 (I am not saying MW2 is end all best game, but you know a lot of people seem to think so. Numbers don't lie. Joystiq community is not a fair representation of what gamers think as a whole.) Let ubisoft try to charge $15 for some Assassin's Creed 2 DLC and see what happens. Even if they did, they would not be selling 2.5mil.
Activision knew they could get away with it and they went for it. I'm sure other publishers know what they can and can't get away with.

You are right in the fact that no other game can garner such a price because no one would pay for it.
People like it. I do not think 2.5 million people are stupid. They bought something that they saw the value in. Yes a lot of people do not see the value in it so they do not buy it. But is it really necessary to call them idiots?
A lot of people would not see the value in $20k Brequet watch, but if I could afford it, I would certainly own one for sure. Same goes for a lot of things.
Why can we not say "yeah this $15 is just not worth it for me" instead of saying "Anyone who buys this has no idea of value." Value is subjective, it is what you can justify to spend on a certain thing.
I will most likely buy this, I love the game. I will also be trying out the Halo:Reach beta, though I will most likely not buy the game, not a huge Halo fan, but to those that like it, well that is awesome.
What I am really looking forward to is the new MoH.

I won't be paying $15 for some different maps. I'm not that stupid. I'm sure there will be a bundle of all the DLC for cheap later on this year.
I would love some free DLC that balanced the game, though. Example: Assault rifle with noob tube, 2 x RPGs, Grenade, 2 flash bangs, marathon perk, danger close perk, and ninja pro perk makes for some frustrating gameplay.

With the noob tube they use scavenger so they can have infinite grenades... Yeah, frustrating.
That being said, I play it all the time mainly because my friends do. But I'll probably end up being suckered into buying this.

Just picked up Killzone 2, addicted to Bad Company 2, and MAG is still calling my name. I think I'll pass on this.

You do relize that there are more COD games than Halo games right? Not to mention three COD games are still in the top ten being played on Xbox LIVE alone. Your statment makes as much sense as a bucktoothed unicorn humping a brick wall.

It stinks that everyone is so down on MW2, that game was pretty good. Sure it didn't live up to some expectations, but most expectations were unrealistic. It was a fun Michael Bay action flick with solid multiplayer that IW poured their hearts into.
Ok, Activision has poor practices and $15 for a few maps is steep, but c'mon. People diss it online like it's Superman 64 or something. Sheesh.
