During last week's MI6 conference, Bungie alum (now 343 Industries head) Frank O'Connor spoke candidly about the possibility of a Halo movie now that relations between Peter Jackson / Neill Blomkamp and Microsoft have fallen apart (as reported by IGN). "We're going to make a movie when the time is right," O'Connor told attendees of a session he was part of, titled "Extending Your Game Beyond the Package." He continued, frankly stating "We own the IP."
Being head of Microsoft's Halo product house (that includes everything from Master Chief plushies, to the development of games after Halo: Reach, to a possible film) though, O'Connor worries about the implications of a film on the franchise. "If we want to make a movie, the scale of all the other stuff that we do changes dramatically. We make tens of millions of dollars on ancillary stuff, toys, apparel, music and publishing. If we do a movie all of that will grow exponentially." So while that's not exactly confirmation of a movie adaptation for the Chief at some point in the future, the possibility of exponentially growing an already multi-million dollar business sounds like a pretty good excuse to us for doing one.

i don't get this whole being milked thing....
how many mario platform games have been released since 2003?
34? sure, you have mario party and all that, but you also have tons of 3d platformers there.
since 2004 when halo was released how many games related to halo have been released?
halo 1, 2, 3, odst and wars, which was an rpg.
so...
34 vs 5, why is the much lower number considered milking?

Actually Brian, not counting remakes, there's only really been New Super Mario Bros, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, and New Super Mario Bros Wii.
But I'll still concede this argument to you because remakes up that count to like 8, and all Mario games are probably pretty close to 34.

Why the f do people think we want movies of videogames we play. Most people play the videogames for the collaboration of story, gameplay, and general fun it is to play. With a movie all you get is the story and just a 2-hour cutscene. With the level of quality of cutscenes in videogames nowadays why do people even bother trying to make a movie out of it? Pisses me off.

I see what you're saying but movies are still a great media, and I definitely want to see quality adaptions of my favorite games on the big screen. You saw what D9 (the movie that was supposed to be Halo at first) was at a 30 million budget? A Halo movie would get like 5 times that. That's a strong incentive for any gamer to see it, even if they don't like Halo.

Well, as much as I think it's a waste of money, 2.5 million people bought it. That isn't really a good example...

It did seem like Avatar had a Halo feel to it. Especially with all the purples and blues.
I hope they do a movie similar to Avatar. Make Master Chief CG, but have real human actors as well.

20 years from now when no one gives a shit about Halo. That's when they'll make it.

The movie will never be made because movies have to have main characters. Master Chief is one of the most generic characters in games. He cannot be the lead in a movie. Have you ever seen a main character in a movie that does not have a face or ever speak? No sir. The Halo story is cool, but it could never star Master Chief.

I don't really care about when or whether or not they make a movie. My biggest concern is what happens to the Halo franchise AFTER Bungie's done making the games??
