Giant bomb is the ONLY reason this started to sell so well, yet Joystiq doesn't even mention them at all.

Joystiq, get your shit together.

No, they're not the ONLY reason this started to sell well. Destructoid has been singing this games praises since it released, and they continue to find random reasons to promote it on the main page every now and then.

@ Eastman - the game was already selling above expectations before Giantbomb. Word-of-mouth and Destructoid's review helped it a lot.

Destructoid may have very well had some influence of Deadly premonitions sales numbers of Amazon, if it were the fact that their review was posted nearly 2 months ago.

Only just recently did Giantbomb start doing their dual endurance run of it, and now Deadly Premonition is on the top sales charts.

Nothing against Destructoid at all, I am not very familiar with them but i've heard good things about them. I just Giantbomb to at least be mentioned also, so far they seem to have just been shafted.

My friend showed me this game. The graphics are horrible but the story and idea behind it is pretty well done.

This is actually a really good game. It isn't "good" by modern standards, in fact lots of parts of it are pretty awful (the driving at the beginning...urrggh).
However, the story is REALLY compelling, mostly because it has the most interesting main character I've seen in a game to date, and it is almost immaculate paced. Not only that, the voice acting is just so awful and hilarious...
Yeah, it's worth getting. The Destructoid review is probably more accurate than the IGN one....just remember IGN gave Godhand a 3 and Party Babiez a 6. :/
Also, Giant Bomb is doing an Endurance Run of it, so you don't even have to buy it! Yay!

IT probably also has something to do with Giant Bomb doing a quick look of this game as well.

Quick Look is the wrong phrasing. They are doing an Endurance Run (two actually) of the game, they are playing all the way through the game.

Persona 4 had a sales spike too when they did the Endurance Run for it.

I was wondering why a mediocre survival horror game was at the top of the sales chart at amazon.

Thanks Joystiq for explaining why!

the news here isn't that the game is (or was) on sale, but rather that the one day sale, combined with word of mouth led to way above average sales for a low budget game.

Golden Axe has a shipping of 8 dollars. Most games it's like 5 dollars. Guess it's not that bad still, but it's misleading when the tag is 2 dollars when you pay 10.

You're missing the point. People are loving this game for the same reason as so-terrible-it's-awesome B movies. Although I will say that voice acting and issues aside, it has a better story than a lot of "AAA" games these days.

If you actually bother to read his review you'll notice that he is being incredibly accurate. His score is based on the merit that the game is actually fun to play, and doesn't bother letting it's technical shortcomings hold it back.

Homophobic insults. How original.

I'm not saying it's not worth $20. On the contrary, I considered buying the game, but then I found out it hasn't been released here in the UK. However, just because the game is good value doesn't mean it is a 10/10 game. There are way, way too many things wrong with it.

There are so, so, so many things right with it. There are way, way, way too many things wrong with FFXIII, but for some reason I picked up that $hitty excuse for a videogame. At least Deadly Premonition is entertaining.

@Markez

You don't need to tell me about FFXIII, Markez. I'm playing it at the moment and, whew, that game has some pretty significant issues. From what I've seen of Deadly Premonition, it does look like it has some entertaining aspects to it. But 10/10? Come on!

The game is awesome.

But allow me to clarify. If you value gameplay and graphics most of all, then this is not the game for you. But if you love an absolute batshit insane story mixed with a playable game? Then it's totally worth it.

I gave it an A-. Loved it.

Personally I find a free roaming horror game with GTA life sim elements to be quite original. I'd say if you can tolerate the combat in RE 4 you should be able to tolerate it here. Stand & shoot doesn't always equal suckitude.

The driving is easy if you ignore the additional controls for the windshield wipers, turn singles, and sirens. Those things are all "extra features" which don't effect much.

The thing I love about this game is actually doing side missions and actually getting to know the towns people beyond merely having a single conversation with them. Most survival horror games don't give you that chance on account everything is linear & scripted along a single plot thread.

People often say "Oh, it's so bad it's good" but half way into the game goes from satirical comedy to serious drama. The transition is so smooth you hardly notice. Believe me there is a reason York talks to Zach and it's not just to incite laughter. Deadly Premonition eventually goes into it.

I also don't understand the whine fest with the graphics. Sure they're dated PS2 quality but honestly the PS2 sports some nice eye candy. I guess there are some gamers that are 100% graphic whores and maybe that is the bunch complaining the loudest.

Gamers are being asked to pay a mere $20.00 for a game that is +20 hours in length. I've beaten games at full price that only clocked in around 8 hours which were far less inspired!

I realize it is a small budget title that doesn't have the visual and audio prowess of today's next gen super giants but Deadly premonition is deep, fun, and incites emotion which is why I thought we got into gaming to begin with.

Lastly please stop hating on the game just because it's an Xbox 360 exclusive. Console elitism should go the way of the dinosaur! It's as immature as "your momma!" jokes in 5th grade.
