The game is fun, but they need to update the controls, not just the graphics. it as *so* close to being a great modern interpretation.

if they wanted to be 100% retro they should have just ported it. im sorry but frustrating controls that waste time/suck dont add to the game. the game was good for reasons other than than being old, it was simply a good game, why not just improve everything that was actually bad and keep all the good? whats wrong with that?

I don't think they could improve the controls any more without substantially reworking the game. Because MI is based on the SCUMM engine, it's very, very easy to create new visuals for the game. But the new controls are merely a new way to access the old controls - ie pull a trigger to pull up a menu instead of highlighting an option on the bottom of the screen.

They couldn't, for example, allow you to control Guybrush's movements with the stick instead of point-and-click.

Oh! Thanks for that, I hadn't heard. I'm glad it's only an option though - the point and click is part of the fun for me.

Well, I guess they are going through with a much more nuanced update than last time.

I seriously hope this sells and they keep up the trend of remaking some of these awesome adventure classics... I would freaking love special editions of The Dig & LOOM.

So many great point-and-click SCUMM titles that have aged pretty badly on the surface but the fun is still there, giving them quality facelifts like this makes all the difference.

I don't know if they will do the third game or not, since its already pretty "HD" as things go... it ran on SCUMM but there wasn't just sprite artwork, alot of it was hand animated pieces and stylized cutscene sequences and stuff that might not be easy to retouch or remake without ruining. That and it already had full audio and voice acting, too.

Not saying they won't remake it but its not aching for an update so much like the first two were.

Yeah that is true. I would be happy if they just released it in digital format.

The LucasArts store may stil sell it. It still looks phenomenal today and the audio work is fantastic. I load it up now and again to enjoy it and marvel how it still looks good. Even from 1997, it can pass off as a new release.

Lord, these look good!!
I want it bad!!
I love Monkey Island! Just seeing these shots makes me go back quite some years.
Also, I agree. Grim Fandango, please... But try to get the original voice cast. And Maniac Mansion would be great, also. Loom, Full Throttle, Fate of Atlantis(never happening...).
This is how a proper homage is the done to a game. Remake the graphics, keep the art style, keep the dialogue, keep most of the mechanics, Just a graphica clean-up and voice cast and..Boom. You got it.
Square-Enix should hire these guys to remake Final Fantasy VII before they do decide to remake it and taint the original.
This is the sort of treatment an FF VII remake needs. No more, no less. Just graphical update and (proper)voice cast.
Don't change the story, don't change the progression, don't change the characters(even the NPCs), don't change the music drastically(just remix it or "modernize" it, though. Nobuo Uematsu has already done that, in fact), and just do a slight tweak to the fighting mechanics.
Boom! Proper remake, and really what the fans are asking for. NOT a major remake, I wouldn't trust Square-Enix to do that in a proper way.
