2nd gen- gameboy color
3rd gen- GBA
4th gen- DS
5th gen- 3DS??
that would only make sense

Perhaps the 3DS will support games that are optimized for it, but also run on the DSi and other DS units, similarly to how some GBC games could be played in grayscale on older Game Boys. That would explain it, perhaps?

It could just be them saying it's coming to the DS in general, and they'll announce which system it'll be playable on. Maybe functionality will change depending on which system it's in, like some GBC games in a GBA (think Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons).

I totally agree. It seem that by the third generation the Pokemon designs were just... Uninspired. They all had the same "style" if you get what I mean.
