Slant Six enacts 'temporary' layoffs; Star Wars Battlefront Online rumored to be canceled

SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo and Confrontation developer Slant Six has instituted layoffs, according to statements given to GameSpot by managing director Brian Thalken. Thalken called the dismissals "temporary," with the goal to bring back as many of the affected staff as possible at a later date. He did not specify just how many employees had been laid off, but said the company will continue to offer benefits to those affected.

"Our current project needs do not align with our current staffing levels," Thalken told GameSpot. The studio's last release was SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 in February.

Additionally, Kotaku reports that, according to its sources, the rumored Star Wars Battlefront Online, which Slant Six was reportedly developing, has been canceled by publisher LucasArts. The game was never announced, and its existence was only suggested by an earlier rumor. As such, its possible relationship to the recent studio layoffs is unconfirmed. We've contacted Slant Six to clear up the issue.

Jeez, I'm seriously beginning to think the "Star Wars Battlefront" franchise has a curse now. Both Free Radical and Pandemic died making SWBF3, now Slant Six has died making SWBF Online?

Quick, someone get Activision to make a SWBF game, I'm tired of them!

SWBF will be hyped even more than it is now and end up being a huge disapointment with mostly 12 year old playing online and then we'll have to pay $15 for few maps. Atleast we would get a SWBF every year with little upgrades that people will pay full price for, dont know hwere im getting these ideas from, just call it a guess.

They made two games right after another, make portable versions what seems like every year, and they can't make a console version? How hard is it to make a generic ragdoll physics shooter with command points and put some freakin Star Wars costumes on the models?

really? Slant 6 is fcking garbage when it comes to console development and I guarantee you the game would have instantaneously gotten a bad rep because of the POS that was Confrontation.

That may be true, but that doesn't make the statement false. Socom: Confrontation was shit. I wouldn't want them making a Battlefront game anyway

Right Socom Confrontation is a really solid game, I've to be honest it took them a lot of patches but right now the game is pretty enjoyable.

good riddance, I hate the spineless assholes at Slant 6 and SCEA who were behind Socom Confrontation.

Solace, it doesn't matter. They could have been the dev team behind Ninja Gingerbread Man for all I care. If they were working on a new console version of Battlefront, it automatically makes them one of the most important developers...in which all their prior projects, good or bad, no longer matter. ;)

Unless they screw it up in which case they would be dead to me.
