According to data collected by The Diffusion Group, there's one area of the console wars in which the PS3 has a notable lead: The percentage of users online in the U.S. According to the numbers posted by Gamasutra, 78 percent of PS3 owners have taken their consoles online, compared to 73 percent of Xbox 360 owners.
By comparison, only 54 percent of Wiis have been connected to the internet, which means that 46 percent of our nation's nephews are failing to return their Aunt Cathy's calls. (By the way, Dylan, would you just help her already? It would take you five minutes. Please, just help her.)

Not surprised one bit.
PSN has a GOOD , Free online service with built in Wifi.
Xbox Live has a GREAT, online service with optional Wifi
Nintendo WFC- Free online service, with STUPID friend codes and BAD service (like barely any DLC, almost no chat etc.) with built in Wifi..
Wish nintendo really worked on online service..

The 360 doesn't let me host games and it's slower, with games that have fewer players and less dynamic scenarios. I know it's supposed to be 'great', but why are so many fewer people using the 'great' one?
Because, outside fanboy freakouts, the 360 actually is inferior. Cross game chat is terrible and annoying, and the actual gameplay is worse. That matters.
360 fanboys want to say you get what you pay for, only when they are paying more, and never when they are paying less. I guess the same is true of PS3 fanboys, but the fact is, the idea that the PS3's online gaming is categorically inferior is simply totally bunk. Hell, the main argument was that the 360 simply had more people to play with... total bunk.

Where do you get the idea that universal chat is terrible and annoying? If there's one single feature Live has that many PSN users envy it would be that one. PS3 owners are asking for it all the time.
I use it all the time on my 360. For example, it's handy when I'm playing a game like Bioshock 2 in single player and a group of friends wants to play Borderlands co-op. I can join their party and be chatting with them before I actually find a good stopping point in my single player game.

Are they counting console serial numbers or are they doing that crap from before where they counted ''unique'' users?

Wait... the Wii can go online?
...
I kid. But seriously, I hate stats like this, because it's less relevant then straight up how many users go online.
78% might sound good, but if there's only say 10 million units sold, that's less then 8 million online, compared to say 360 with say 15 millions units sold, which would make it's 73% over 10 million online (none of these numbers are real, just to illistrate my point).
Also, for those users who go online, how long do they spend online? I've spent maybe 5 hours total in the year I've had my PS3 (gaming, not including other stuff), whereas I spend at least that much a week on my 360 because the quality of the online experience is far better.

Your comment is irony at it's best. You go on and on about Xbox "fanboys," and what exactly do you think you sound like? IMHO, the Sony ones are nearly always the worst.
Now about the content of your message, Vidikron is completely right, Xbox Live Parties is something I always see PSN users wanting, and I don't blame them. I love being able to talk to my friends no matter what game we're playing. There's the situation he mentioned, where they want me to join in on some multiplayer, and I talk to them while finding a good stopping point. There's me and some friends all playing different games, planning the party we're having this weekend. Me and one of my friends play Oblivion at the same time quite often, telling eachother where to find certain items or helping eachother with a quest. The ONLY complaint I have about it, is that the party will cut out every now and then (it's really rare though), and it automatically reconnects everyone, so no biggie.
2: You say there are fewer people on Xbox Live. Not true. As the article states, there is a lower percentage, but it's only slightly lower, and it's of a larger installed base. I never have trouble finding people to play with.
and 3: You say the gameplay is worse. How on earth is MW2's gameplay any different on the PS3 than the Xbox? Riddle me that Joker.
All I gotta say is, you get what you pay for (see what I did there?)

I don't know what you're replying to, since you're unable to properly handle this simple website's comment system.
If you prefer the 360's features to the PS3's, then by all means, keep using your console. If you think someone like me, who grants that each console has its merits, but happily points out that my features present a much better value for me, is a fanboy, then you're just an idiot who can't handle reality. You're probably compensating for the fact that you envy some of the great PS3 features you don't have. Cross game chat? I have that with my PS3... it's called a cell phone. If I want to talk to people between games, I can do it on home or call them up. I really don't want to talk to random people I play against unless we're actually playing a game, though. I know, I know, that's just crazy talk.
Your console simply doesn't offer fair pricing for many peripherals, or obviously necessary features like a browser. That's my preference, and I don't really care if you can't respect that. Get a life.

The irony continues!
As to your first point, A: that was the first comment I posted on this site, as it was my first time visiting the site, and the other websites I frequent don't have the whole reply system, and B: the mobile version of any site is far from convenient, as I posted it on my iPod.
Granting each it's merits? I don't really see how your comments can be interpreted as anything other than bashing. I never bashed the PS3, I just believe cross game chat is something it should (and probably will soon) have. Merits of the PS3? The online play is free, it has a better library of exclusives (IMO), more processing power, considerably lower failure rate, and the xbox also has it's merits. Only reason I don't have a PS3? Can't afford it at the moment, soon as I can I'll get one.
And having to call every person I want to play with, especially if it's more than one, is far from convenient. And don't even get me started on home, I'll admit that I've never used it, but out of the countless comments I've heard on it, I can't remember any that were good. I do believe it is you that is compensating.
And your last point, the (admittedly) ridiculously priced peripherals and web browser, have next to nothing to do with the online gaming experience. Even if the Xbox did have a web browser, I wouldn't use it, just like I don't use the facebook, twitted, last fm apps on the xbox, I can do all that from my computer, my phone, or even my iPod touch. Why the hell would I want to use a controller to browse the web when there's so much better options available?

I am not suprised. The ps3 has free wifi connection and dozens of online multi player games. I am suprised though to see that the xbox 360 has such a high percentage as it costs a lot of money to get wireless

There are 7 million more LIVE users than PSN users in North America.
I think you confuse percentages with user totals. They are not the same thing.

Earlier, it was said that:
"korwyn @ Apr 13th 2010 5:29PM
Xbox 360: 39 Million
PS3: 33.5 Million
So by these numbers:
78% of PS3s are online: 26,130,000
73% of Xbox 360s are online: 28,470,000"
That wasn't the entire post, just the numbers. Yes, Live has more users, but by 2 million. I did not double check the numbers, but I didn't see anyone arguing them either. All in all though, people will pick a console and support it because it is their favored console. Why can't we all just get along?

I love my PS3 but I'm fully aware it's the underdog, They could at least upgrade the browser though, 36+whatevermillion customers and they can't even keep the browser relevant through minor updates?
*shrug* It's not a huuuuge deal considering I have 2 PC's to work with, just I like to hit up a website once in a while without having to leave my couch, yet I can't expand comments on facebook, can't look at anything that uses flash9, and the flash that does run (example: lookatmyhorse.com) starts losing sync with the audio in a loop or 3.
sad.
