Why wait for Cliff Bleszinski to debut Gears of War 3 on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon? Here's the trailer for the "worst-kept secret in the video game industry," posted to the Late Night website (and embedded above) ... before it's appeared on television. The trailer is prefaced by some banter with Mister B about his vintage Nintendo Power appearance and what makes a great game.

The new game has playable female soldiers in it! Take that, Crackdown 2! Don't worry, it's still jam-packed with men who look like refrigerators and mellow music, like the famous Gears of War trailer (in this case, Sun Kil Moon's "Heron Blue"). Other elements mentioned by Cliff include new weapons and new aliens -- "crazy tentacle monsters" with mutating ability. Bleszinski said GOW3 will arrive "probably around April 8" -- one year after his Late Night appearance was supposed to be shown. Wouldn't that have been nice marketing? Oh, well.

Update: Official release date is April 5, 2011. And catch Cliff's Late Night appearance after the break.

Why is it every time i settle on a HD console i want to compliment the Wii, a trailer comes out to change my mind. Damnnnn youuu!!

IMO, if I were you I would look at the current library of games of both consoles, features, ease of use, versatility, reliability, how well it can hook up to other devises, FUTURE game line-up, the motion controllers....and most importantly what YOU want the most.

Take a piece of paper, draw a line down the middle, write 360 on one side and PS3 on the other, put down any positive features that you can for both....now do the same thing on another piece of paper listing the negative things about both consoles.

That way, you will make the most informed decision you can and get the HD console that you really want.

IMO, try not to let your decision come down to just ONE game.

Its not coming down to just 1 game, but the race is so close that 1 game could tip the favor. I'm a HUGE God of War and Final Fantasy fan, and don't have much of a liking for dual-analog FPS games, so the Ps3 would look ideal, But Fable 3 and Gears 3 look incredible, plus the 360 is cheaper (although i will need to get a wireless adapter for it unlike the Ps3). Probably still leaning towards Ps3 at this stage, though i know more people with 360's, i already have a gamertag, and i prefer the 360 controller.

Well . . . buy both? I know it's easier said than done but i finally got my hands on a PS3 after having a 360 for so long and i love having both systems. I really don't know what i would've done if i didn't get to play God of War 3. Now . . . Gears of War 3!

You do realize that a dual analog third person game like Gears and a dual analog FPS control fundamentally the same? Right?

If you want a PS3, get a PS3. Both the 360 and the PS3 have great games, and you'd definitely be missing out if you only bought one or the other. Don't listen to any fanboys that would tell you one console is better than the other, because it's simply bunk.

was expecting a cool trailer with plenty of pew-pew and blat-blats, but that blew me away. The music was an excellent choice. Though I doubt they would go though with it, I think it would be very cool if "The End" was the actual end for Delta Squad, AKA they all die and the Locust essentially win and take over.

I hate to sound like a fanboy but if you are a Final Fantasy and God of War guy, the PS3 is a pretty obvious choice. The PS3 software library is quite a bit better than the 360's at this point.... It has better exclusives and it also has blu-ray, built-in wifi, much better hdd storage options, better reliability, etc, on top of it.

I have all the current gen systems (wii, 360, ps3, ds, psp) and the PS3 is easily my favorite box this gen and the most "complete" feeling system as both a gaming system and a home theater type component.

That said, I'm stoked that I have a 360 because I am a massive Gears of War fan and am psyched for this game.

I bought a 360 for Gears of War 1.

Bought the game for my brother (who already owned a 360) as a Christmas gift, looked at the box for an hour, read some stuff online, then bought a 360, ripped open the former gift, and proceeded to play. It was the right decision.

As eager as you were to reply to my comment it may have slipped your notice that at no time did I actually reference loving anything about any kind of interaction that I've ever had with JD and that the things that I enjoy in life happen to be a) saving lives and b) Gears of Wars and - yes - in that order. On a good day you may just be able to slip my wife and kids in on that list but the one thing you will never find filed under the catalog that contains the few miniscule pleasures that I derive from this oh-so-meaningless existence is any kind of satisfaction derived from explaining my personal relationships to complete strangers on gaming websites.

Where does being part of a tv series that was initially very good and then dragging it out until it is painfully bad to watch and even being a part of the lame loosely tied spin off, fall into your lists of enjoyments.

If you're referring to Season 9 as "dragging it out until it is painfully bad to watch" then I might agree, but I thought Scrubs was good up until then. I personally think the Season 8 finale was probably one of the best Series finales I've ever seen.

For realsies, though, I thought it was a great choice IF they mean to say that their battle is ultimately futile and they will fail, despite their efforts. It's been a while since we've seen main characters fail.

I rememeber when the original Aliens vs Predator came out. I would spend hours shooting up millions of aliens to the tune of "Friends Forever" by the singer Vitamin C. Very...um...surreal. And quite the laugh.

No, you missed the point.

Kozelek is a highly respected musician with a lot of artistic integrity and his songs come from personal emotional experiences. This isn't just buying the license to a Tears for Fears cover from the Donnie Darko soundtrack.

The fact Kozelek allowed his music to be used for any video game - in particular Gears - is amazing and pretty strange.

Awesome to see Mark Kozalek's work in game trailers.

Maybe "Stop Breathing" from Pavement is next. I could see that being used in a game trailer

Nice trailer. Not what I would have picked to premiere the game. But it's a year away so I'm sure we'll see more.

It's a lot better than some of the debut trailers I have seen in the past. This one actually showed a few new things to the game, which is different. I'm surprised they showed as many new details as they did.

The old guy is Dom. This takes place several years after Gears 2. They all look much older. Cole's bald!
