Been hankering for more Dragon Quest since the release of The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors? Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest Victory for Wii in Japan, an adaptation of the Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road arcade game. The Wii version is set to launch this summer and features card-based battles for up to four players via local split-screen and the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The game will also include a "Tournament" mode, in which players face off against a succession of NPCs in a virtual town, collecting cards.
Perhaps the coolest feature of all is connectivity between the arcade and Wii games, using a DSi. Players will be able to download a special DSiWare app that will scan in the arcade version's cards, allowing transport over to the Wii game. The price of the DSiWare app is currently unknown.

Crap! I was hoping for a Dragon Quest Swords sequel! I know, I'm the only one... and I should probably seek help.

I would like to see a sequel where you wouldn't have to lock on a target before performing a strike that wasn't in the center of the screen. In the spiritual predecessor of Dragon Quest Swords, a 2003 standalone plug-n-play game called Kenshin Dragon Quest, the player did not need to do that, and it felt a whole lot more natural and user-friendly. I'm honestly curious if MotionPlus would make this possible. If not, surely PS Move and Natal would be able to do it.

Now I'd likens DQ Swords 2 myself. Please
god, utilize the MotionPlus and the Nunchaku
to move. Maybe even toss in some spells for flavor, like wacky motions to wind up a Frizz. Or map C or Z to an alt key to ready magic.
We won't see this, though, because the world tends to suck sometimes. At least we're getting IX, VI DS, and Joker 2. And X, most likely.
